A little more info on the new Mags

Now this is what I am talking about. For someone like me not interested in SPL, these are the features that concern me. Keeping down inductance, less mounting depth, overall smaller enclosure, but still sound good. I don't know about the rest of your customer base, but it is definitely in tune with what I look for

    1 12" SI Mag vs 3 12" RF Hx2's

3 in sealed, sure. But I have 2 first gen 12" HX2s and can tell you in a proper tuned enclosure for them i can produce hella more output than my single mag with them. it all comes down to the space i want to give up. I prefer the sound of my single mag and am pleased with output, but if push came to shove and I needed output, I could take the 2 HX2s out of storage and annihilate the single mag in terms of output.

Finally came over from the dark side......

When you're done and satisfied with the results, please get with me about specifics about the enclosure. I'd be interested in adapting it for a 12" mag to try.

    It's alive again

In a slightl;y better enclosure than the last. Last enclosure was the fibergalss one I built which was 1.9 cu ft tuned to around 33hz using a 4" aeroport. This is a 2.1@31hz enclosure I had fisher customs makle up for me. More port area since space wasn't as critical as the GTO, plus I will have the seat down from time to time, so minimal port noise was wanted. Thje area is 31 sq inches. This setup sounds so much better than the GTO did. A lot louder as well. Most of that has to do with the 2 different vehicles though. The GTO just isn't advantageous to a sub in the trunk. The cavalier is a bit more accommodating, just a chittier car lol. Here is a few short clips. I got my wiring ran to the trunk, so I had to toss the amp in there temporarily to fire this thing up. Voltages at idle running the amp at full tilt.

    New addition to the bar

Sadly it will be, but I will not give up! Pretty soon it will be too cold in MD for me to go and do anything for anybody If it isn't already that is lol.

    New addition to the bar

This new addition to my bar, pretty much completes it. I ordered a 27" LCD HDTV from Newegg for 450 last week. Today I got it mounted. I made an MDF corner shelf and anchored it into studs. Then I trimmed it in bamboo to match the motif. Just raw MDF shelf. After Bamboo trim. My saturday bar hat. Just in time for most of the football season.

    It's alive again

Yes. It just wasn't a good daily driver. With my 40 min commute to work, gas was killing me. I went to a cheap ass cavalier. I got it for a steal. The wife is getting a nice new car in Jan(probably a saturn sky redline) Which will get a old school RF setup(dsm era). The goat just wasn't making sense forme to drive to work every day.

    Blind BM 12" testing

Good choice on the testers. When it comes to SQ, I trust "frostys"(still think that was a better name opinions and chad is no one to disregard either.

    New BM prototype information

Very well might I add. My 2 BMs sound great off of my Sundown SAE-1000D, everyone who has heard it is very very impressed, they basically laugh and say, "Holy chit!" I told you from day 1 that you couldn't go wrong with SI and sundown. I am just glad I got you away from using the standard mainstream ARRRGGHHS. Not the R isn't a commendable product, but I'd rather back SI anyday.

X2 on the build new enclosure. < 1 cuft sealed for a 12" of just about any brand is less than ideal.

    box building online calculator???

Um too low is by far worse than too much. Many amps fry from too little. If the proper voltage isn't given then it is attemtpted to make up the loss by drawing more current(heat). This draw in current can be more than the amps board or components were meant to handle.

    box building online calculator???

I am not saying to ignore advice. I am asking why not question it to get a full explanation to the why or science behind it. Understanding the why in advice is the true way to learning it. If someone can't explain the why and just regurgitate vague reason, then perhaps they really don't understand why they give the advice. I question advice to learn more not to rebel or go against. Like I said I always use MDF. It has been drilled into my head. I just have never been shown this "difference". With the amount of people following the rule, you can't rule out it's validity, but I can still question how big of a difference it is until shown otherwise. It is certainly something that can be measured with the proper equipment. Both in terms of physical flex and by showing metered result comparisons. You can also show basically at what size enclosure MDF truly becomes necessity. It would be lengthy testing of course, but it could be done and would be quite interesting I think.

    box building online calculator???

You failed to actually get my point of daily driving boxes of normal size and power I won't argue with competiton benefits and ginormous sized enclosure that I would never use lol. Admittedly when i glanced at these pics from OP the first time, I thought it was 2x 12s and a standard sized enclosure. Now knowing they are 15s he could easily be aproaching the limits of the material depending on hoiw much power he plans to hit it with. i forgot to mention that i used a really good glue that says it bounds stronger than wood i tryed it on two peaces of wood and nex day i tryed to pull them apart never could, the glue is pretty good and i also used lots of screws. A lot of screws = BAD Even if building with MDF, you only use screws if you don't have proper or enough clamps. They are to provide force on the wood while glue dries, not to be a structural part of the design. More screws = Less integrity This is entirely UNCALLED for IMO. He isn't getting out of control or extremely retarded with his questioning. I am sure with proper explanations and examples you can make him understand a lot. I don't think people need to come toi this site and just listen to you guys unquestioned. Only sheep do that. I for one like to have substantial evidence or at least a well explained and logical reasoning provided to me about why I a may be doing something wrong. There is nothing wrong with that. How is one to know the level of someones knowledge on the internet? My way of finding ones knowledge is by questioning their advice. If they have true experience they will be able to intelligently tell me why and convince me otherwise. Without that kind of effort, it is just another "me too" spouting off a the mouth imo.

    box building online calculator???

Remind me in a month or so after I move and I will gladly measure one for you with our scanning laser vibrometer and show you the difference. I have been meaning to write up a flexing tech paper for the technical section, but until I have a garage back I can't whack out any enclosures. The difference is huge. If you think we are splitting hairs I encourage you to go onto a home audio website and look at one of their sub enclosures, huge baffles and TONS of bracing. I already admitted huge enclosures will see this problem I am talking most sane daily driver boxes in vehicles, which now that I look, the OPs may not fit this category. BTW I have always used MDF just for peace of mind. I have had friends with single 12" tuned enclosures made from fine particle board and I seen no flex difference with the eye. When an enclosure reaches a certain size then flex will come and the integrity of the material becomes increasingly important. Even MDF is gonna flex at certain lengths. Which is the reason for so much bracing in home enclosures. I'd be very interested in the reading though if you ever do get that chance to do the testing. Sounds interesting. Until then, I will continue to use MDF to avoid TCAB style flames

    box building online calculator???

I'd honestly like to see proof that MDF is that much more superior to fine particle board. I find it hard to believe that you would hear any difference. Someone mentioned it flexing which OK if your an SPL monger with a really wanging woofer and a box the size of a house OK. Normal daily boxes won't be large enough for the mechanical inferiority to rear its ugly head. Now I know for all intent purposes, MDF is a better construction material, but I think you guys are splitting hairs when it comes to a daily subwoofer enclosure. I'd like to see the flex. If it is that much worse, you should be able to capture it on video.
