I've just never built speaker pods and wanted to keep the front of the car looking mostly stock. Biggest I can fit is 5.25.

We run 2 AQ3500s strapped at .25each and .5ohm total. 200 amp alt and 5 Dekka 34 batteries. I still see high 12s in voltage.

Went to a local competition this weekend and have a few issues with the subs. First off they are in a 12 cubic foot wall with 210 sq inches of port for burps. Amps hooked to them were 2 AQ 3500s strapped at .5 ohm rising to 1.9ohm clamped at 6500, I went to burp at the show and did a 54.8 my first burp and a 55 my second burp. Decided to test door open about 10 minutes later burped for 3 seconds and did a 58. Went to try in the passenger kick panel door open and they started making a funny sound. Checked the impedence at the amps and its 1 ohm when it was .5 ohm a little bit earlier. Do you think I unwound a coil? The sub sounds funny so I unhooked the amps, but won't have time to pull the subs until next weekend. If they fried on 7k then they won't be able to handle the 4 crescendo 2ks I am going to be using the rest of the year. Strapping 2 per sub. Are there power handling upgrades available. The master amp was tuned with a dd-1 right before the show as well.

The coil hit the pole piece multiple times clearly cuz the scratch in the pic isnt just from one rub. I'm not looking for free stuff with this thread. Im just trying to show that clearly there was coil rub(look at the pole piece and see the rub mark). That is not a user error. And I was do warranty on it as stated on the IA website(since it is a manufacturing defect)

dropping to 12.7

I posted pics a few posts up! Linked from my photobucket in post #22
-
Why is there no sign on the coil of any bottoming out(just the rub mark on the inside)? And why is the other sub in perfect working condition?
-
Yep. We tested the other death penalty and it works just fine.
-
And what I am wondering. If the sub is not the issue then why is the other one working just fine still? Why are the other 2 sets of subs that I have tried doing just fine on the same thing?
-
Clearly by the pics you can see that it rubbed on the pole piece.

http://i441.photobuc...magejpeg_23.jpg To everyone I have talked to it looks like interior damage from coil rock and rubbing. Outside of the coil is fine and where it was rubbing it did this to the motor. http://i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq131/jaker89/imagejpeg_24.jpg

I am running 2 AQ HDC3 18s on 7400 watts clamped. Taking burp after burp and not even getting hot. Burping 45hz and box is tuned at 44hz. Not having any issues with them and they are a 1000watt rms sub. Put 2500 clamped to the 2010 IA death penalty for multiple burps and it loved it. The new style clearly is not the same quality at all.

I didn't blow them is the thing. They broke at the former from "bottoming out" which if these are doing that at 40hz I want nothing to do with them. Also if they won't take 6500+ on 3-5 second burps for a pair then they aren't the sub that I want. They had maybe 10-15 burps on them tops when they went. I can't be buying recones every few weeks. They may be cheap at first, but after a few they get expensive. I am going to go with a brand that I know will handle the power.
-
It was coil rub on the bottom and the coil broke off the former. Im just gonna sell them and go with something else I think.
-
and yes they are the old AQ 3500s not the .1s
-
Yeah 1500 a piece daily(which that rating is under real world handling for sure). Usually can handle 3x-4x that for 3 second burps.
-
How much do recones run a piece for them and where would I pay for them?
-
AHHH I missed it. I need a meter badly!!

So I don't know if anyone else has asked this, but are the components a full set. Like both doors worth for the $119 on the store? -
Time to upgrade. Think I am going to do 2 SMD's now so the Mayhems need to go. Since this is a forum for Ascendant Audio I might as well let that be known here. The mayhems are Fing amazing, but as alot of people in the car audio field see....there is always louder. lol. That being said...whats the price on 2 18inch SMD's and where would a recommended place be to sell the 2 18 inch mayhems that I currently have?
-
I am a little worried about throwing 7k at 2 mayhems to be completely honest. I would love to try it, but if I hurt them then I am out money. I don't have a oscope so I can't set my amp gains perfect. I just have to tune by ear for the most part. I've gotten pretty good at it by using different tracks for the different tuning options.
-
I am adding another crescendo BC3500d and going to run them off 2 200 amp alternators and 6 group 34 batteries. 7k to the 2 SMD's will be vicious. That is if someone will buy my 2 mayhems.
-
Yeah for the most part. It is taking it like a champ though and im happy.
-
Thank you. Once these mayhems sell then I will be jumping on 2 of those I think.

They are posted on here. Let's get these a new home so I can start my new build ASAP!
