  1. Well originally I had a monster cassette adapter, worked well for 5 years, but as time went on, I got unlucky and one of my coworkers sliced the cord. So it still played, but only on the left speakers, it bugs me for a week before I decide to go to best buy and pick a new one up. Dynex or Rocket Fish? Both sound like crappy brands, lets get both! So I hook both of them up, they work, but are very quiet for some reason. I could listen to music at a normal level with them, but it required my H/U to be all the way turned up along with the ipod. So they both go back, and I go to a specialty store today, maybe 4 months after suffering with the monster one. It finally kicked the bucket 2 days ago, and now I buy a scosche. Plug it in and hear some Jeezy, what a relief. 2 seconds later, no more jeezy! Turns out it has a reel error, just what the fudge I need to deal with. try about 10 more times, and same problem. I get home, open it up, and see there is a piece of plastic molded in there that stops the gears from turning... So I get some dikes and cut it off, pop the player in and it works fine, but didn't get to test out if it gets as loud as the monster as my parents are home. Why is it that everything made today has problems? The sales guy kept saying "Everyone who gets one of these love them" and other crap like that, so I called the store back up and let him know that the tape player everyone loves is a piece of crap I had to modify for it to work out of the box. He says that maybe my cars sound system just needs some professional work done, not some hack job by an 18 year old kid who doesn't know what he is doing. I laughed at this comment. Well thats my rant, don't by scosche!

    gauge size

Someone should probably ask how long the run is going to be on this. How long is the wire between the amp and the sub?

    Lanzar amp

I looked at lanzar amps for a while, but I decided against them because they did not seem to be all that well reviewed, and not many people have them to review them

Do you already have the amp you are going to be using with it?

    Fi BTL

You can either make a box yourself, which if you are good with your hands, is really easy, or you could pay someone to make one.

    Audio Security

So I don't live in a bad neighborhood, but I just bought an amp that cost me over $1K, and I plan on spending a lot on speakers and subs, but I am just going to bolt those down. As for the amp, what would be the best way of locking it down? I thought about a bullet proof glass case(with holes for venting), but ventilation would still suck, I have thought about just putting 2 long steel bars across it and bolting them down on each side of the amp, but I am undecided. I thought it would not hurt to come here and see what everyone else has done to protect their equipment.

    Audio Security

Torx heads sound good, I have a whole variety of those, so putting in variable sizes wouldn't be a problem either. As for the amp, I think I am going to put carriage bolts on it with lock nuts on the bottom, so the only way to get it off would be to go under the truck and find the bolts.

That is true Bojangles. By the way, I love your dog. HI PUPPY! I guess I am just going to tint it and put a train horn alarm on the truck, this way of someone tries a smash and grab, their ears will bleed.

Which of these is the best subwoofer?

I had to input just because he said "I don't care about price" and his budget is $350 I am going to go with what a few others have said, and tell you to save up a little more money. I am currently doing my first car audio build, and I was asked what my budget was after I spend over $1K on a single amp . Between proper wiring, a good box, a decent amp, and a decent sub, you could blow through $350 on the wire, box, and amp easily.

    so lost need help please

For a competition set up, .5Ohms is not a problem, but running .5 everyday could kill the amp off fairly quickly. Could you wire it down to 1Ohm instead and just not have 100% power?

    What road to take!

Well I am getting my first vehicle soon, and am building my first sound system in it. People who know me know when I do things, I go big and get the best available to me at the time. So I just bought a Team Cactus Sounds 7KW Amplifier. Now what should I hook it up to? Assume that I am doing the build in the bed of a pick up truck with either a 6.5 or 8 foot bed. What I am really wondering is should I go with many small(10-12") subs, a couple large(18") subs, or a single large(18"), a single medium(15"), and a couple small(10-12") subs? I realize with the last option, I would need quite a few amps, but lets assume that it isn't an issue. Right now I am thinking about wiring up 2 Fi 18" BTLs to the Cactus, but I really do not know what method to go with. Also, for anyone saying I shouldn't have bought the Cactus Sounds 7KW, I got it for a steal, a measily $1100! I had to take it

    What road to take!

I only said I would need more amps for different LPF and SSF settings between a 10" and an 18" sub. I think I decided on what I want to do. 2 18" Fi BTLs in the bed, and 2 Fi Q 12" in the cab, this way I can have quality when just cruising, and loud when I am posted far away from people.

    What road to take!

Budget is around a couple thousand at this point, and this will be for a daily driver that will also be a personal SPL machine, I don't think I will ever compete with it.

Is building a box "this" easy?

Instead of cutting a hole in the sub and having that plate with the 2 terminals on it, you would drill a hole into the mdf board, put these through the hole. The larger side screws down to hold the wire in place, and the other side has a ring terminal connection between the 2 nuts if I am correct.

    yeaaaaa 150 db.

Sorry to be another person who has to question you, but i was on the fence about believing you and was going to wait for pictures, but if you have dropped 8K into a car, you have to have pictures, you must have borrowed a camera from someone at some point!
  23. Your amplifier only makes 250Ws of power at 4Ohms, and you are powering 2 subs with it? Chances are without even knowing it, you are driving it as hard as it can go. If you know the problem is heat, which at this point I wouldn't be surprised, then just add some ventilation to it, as it sounds like the shop that installed it crammed it in a tiny space. EDIT-you also said you turned the gain down 1/3 of the way. Did you properly set it, or does it perhaps need to be turned down more?
  24. ^^^^I also planned on doing this, forgot to put it in the list, but thank you for the advice.
  25. I was going to write a giant post, but figured this will be better Vehicle - 2006 Ford F-150 XL What I plan on doing: Fi BTL 18" power by Lanzar Opti6000D 8 Pioneer 4-way 280W Max 6x8s on 50Ws each Supporting upgrades: HO Alternator, something with a high idle output Isolator splitting between stock battery for car and 3 batteries in bed of truck Big 3 with 0 Gauge 0 gauge from alt to all batteries Fuses throughout system Voltage meter in dash If you assume I know how to correctly make a ported box, and how to wire stuff, is there anything I am missing or should do in order to make the system more stable? I plan on using 0 gauge for grounds, but feel like I should ask here in order to make sure everything is planned out correctly. Thanks Also, I have read the Opti6000D is a good amp, are there any better amps in that price range? I might upgrade to a second BTL later on, so keep that in mind. EDIT - I closed the wrong tab and made this in advanced by accident, if it could be moved to electrical, that would be lovely, I will PM a few mods to hopefully speed up the process
