I bought a crappy little spl meter at wal mart and gave it a run. I have a single rlp dual 4 runnin at 2 ohms and 800 watts. I played a 50 hz test tone and it hit 129.2 db at the dash. I have no sound deadener or anything yet. Is that a good reading? And how long do you play a test tone in a comp for spl? Im just wonering how loud it can get. I would imagine i could get at least 130 out of it.....I just dont know.

Now I am not going to point fingers at us amps quality because it is probably me doing something wrong. Anywho, I have a us amps xt1600.4 runnning focal polykevlar 5.25" components. I have the focals in stock door locations with the tweeters mounted on the pillars. The xt1600.4 has a .5 farad cap on it. I have not yet fine tuned the gains because i have not had the chance but they are roughly set. I expected this combo to blow me away, but it is not any better than the old boston component set I had running off the HU. My question is: Could the gains need to be changed, I mean, can that cause distortion? also, I have some sub par rca's from scosche. Could that be it? Lastly I have Some of the speaker wire and the rca run nest to a battery cable which i know is not good. If i move them apart, would the sound be better? I plan on doing that anyways, I just have a temp install right now until I can get my pops to help me build an amp rack and a better box. Any help s appreciated!!

ok i lost my manual....how do i bridge them?
-
no. should i bridge it? that means the focals would see like 2oo watts a piece. Do you think they could handle it?

im pretty sure that i heard flakko is the nephew of the owner of us amps.....That would be pretty chitty if his uncle would not let him sell amps as an authorized dealer...I personally got hooked up by flakko so i have no qualls....

now is it better to have the box closer to the back or front of the trunk? Is there any average gain on spl with the addition of good sound deadener? I am going to use second skin sludge and damplifier on the doors and trunk.
-
hey mike maybe I could do your advertising and you could just pay me in subs......
-
ask flakko to recommend some us amps to you....Im sure he will be glad to, and they are definitely up to par...

here is a link to a better vid of my rl-p on realm of excursion. This sub is moving its ass off!! Please tell me if you think i am pushin her too hard!!! thanks. Mike you should enjoy this. http://realmofexcursion.com/videos/SoundSplinter/rlp12.4.wmv

sweet. I am glad to hear that. I was worried because when i was recording the vid I was listening to the sub with the trunk open.I heard a bad noise when the sub hit the really loud note and I was like "chit" dont let this speaker be blown. I thought it was weird though how it only made the noise at certain notes, so i put my hand in the port hole and pushed against the inner port wall and the noise stopped. I knew the rl-p could handle it, it just scared me. I have come to the conclusion that i need to seal my box better, or even better yet, build a new one for this beast of a sub!!!! Also i think my wires are too long as well. Could them sitting one the bottom of the box cause that noise too?

sweet! Did you watch the vid denim? what did you think? Does it look like it is over exurting?

The sub is at 2 ohms, 800 watts. The amp is a directed 1500d, and I know it puts out rated power. I also know that the sub is seeing 40 volts at full volume because that is what i set my gains at. On the box size, Mike said that because of the low tuning the box would work just fine. I am worried about over excursion though. I know the rl-p's x max is sick though. We will see what everyone else says about it. I gave a few people rides in my car and they all think I have two 12s. I cant wait until it is dynamatted. It should get louder and sound better. Peace..

chit...ill have to do it again

picshere is a vid of my rlp on putfile!!
-
what kind of speakers are those?
-
i used to run 2 12" planet audio subs with like 250 watts each. They were in a sealed enclosure. Now i have a single 12" rlp in a big ported box with 800 watts going to it. Its a tad louder than both of the planet audio subs, while putting out way better sq. I think you should mess with your box first.

here is my new rl-p. I am super impressed with its performance. pic

I guess it was pontless to buy a 4 channel amp then!!lol I will put some good speakers back there just because i have a good 4 channel now.

Do you think the focals will be loud (and clear) enough to fill the whole car with sound? here is a review of the speaks. focal 136k

looks expensive!! I was just thinking of some 6 x 9s in the back, or do you reccomend components in back as well...
-
you mean unamped? yeah, i was just going to get an amp for them, but they areent very good bostons, plus they are old. I got the focals and a good us amp from flakko to keep up with the rl-p. That oughta do the trick. The only other thing I would like to do is to replace the 6 x 9s in the back with better stuff. Any suggestiions? The us amps amp will power the focals and the back speakers @ 85 watts 4 ohm.
-
I got the directed 1500d off of ebay for like 160 shipped. It does like 1100 watts rms @ 1 ohm, 800 watts at 2 ohms. I have it runnin my rlp d4 at 800 watts. It pounds the hell out of it.

I just got a pm from flakko, gonna get the is 4085 from us amps for 195 shipped. THat is a great price!! I just hope the focals are up to what ive heard.
-
It seems to be working quite well. I got it refurbed, so it has cosmetic defects, but that doesnt matter to me. I was worried for a while, because I got a dmm to set my gains, and for some reason the crappy dmm i got from walmart said that it put out a max of 20 volts, which is not right. I took the chitty volt meter back and got a good auto ranging one and get it set right at 38 volts. I just got some focal comps off of ebay, and I pmed flakko to see about the us amps is 4085. I would love to get that to run my speakers. DO you know about that amp?
