Experiment with clipping
mustbenu posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
so i was sayin how the sub was making a knocking sound(bottoming out). so i decided to perform an experiment. i setup a -6db 50hz test tone put my radio at volume 35(70%) and i tuned the gain to put out 31.62 volts, which is 1000 watts. next i put in the removed the test tone cd and put the song that made the knocking sound in. looking at the volt meter some parts of the song would jump to over 40volts thats like 1600 watts, now i see why the sub was knocking, obviously that is a clipped signal. why is this happening? if i set my amp with a DMM with a test tone why am i getting a huge signal when i play a song. doesnt make sense and also makes the DMM method for setting gains seem pucking pointless. -

im thinking maybe my HU is throwing clipped signals above 50% volume, im gunna try it again tommorow wit the volume alot lower, see what happens. -

well i read the tutorial and it says use te -6db because if you use 0db you wont get full use of the amp -
i have a jvc touch screen headunit, is there any type of head unit that doesnt clip as earlier or is there a way to know which headunits clip at what points. at the volume it was getting a knocking sound my front speakers were sounding crystal clear
-
so the DMM method is pointless then?
-
it cant be clipping because i set it with a DMM with a -6db test tone at 50hz and it was just under the max volume... its in a 2.6ft sealed box.
-
sealed or ported? can you elaborate on scary around 32-40hz
-

i set my amp to give my sub 1000w but the amp is 1200w do you guys think it can take 1200w in a sealed 2.6ft box without any problems?
-
if i set my amp with a dmm fr 1200w theres no reason why it should clip, plus my amp is underated so i have som head room.

i got my 15 inch MAG installed today in a 2.6 sealed box OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG this things is insane i love it holy chit... it made my hair move this is very deep and very clean and tight i love you thank you for a GREAT SUB im barely pushing it and this thing blows me in half <-----my face will give a more professional review in a few days but for now tat is how i feel
-
ok so i got my sub running and i love it but there is many settings on the orion 1200d amp what do i set my crossovers at? my box is sealed at 2.65
-
well i di some reasearch ad it seems that i should just leave the highpass off because my box is sealed and then start the lowpass around 80 and work down
-
Just wondering what country these subwoofers are made in.
-
i dont think my car will handle my 1200d amp.. if i switch to a 600-700watt amp will that still get the 15 MAG moving good. any harm done underpowering it?
-
why are you selling your xt2000
-
well if this amp is gunna put out much more than 800 i dont know if i want it... im looking for a 800w amp not much more i still wanna leave room for another amp for my front stage all on my stock alternator
-
why would ikesound post some incorrect information? i dont get it
-
why is ike sound listing different specs than what flakko listed for the xt2000d # rms power (1ohm): 1200w x 1 # rms power (2ohm): 600w x 1 # rms power (4ohm): 300w x 1 thats from ikesound XT-2000D PWR: 150x1@4, 300x1@2, 800x1@1 flakko posted these specs in the USAmps board
-
that sounds like a good amp.. do you know how many max amps it draws
-
