Wait, the AP15001D will do .5 stable? hmmm, I might have to pick up another T5 and try this out...

I'm trying to get rid of my Type-R because it just doesn't sound that great. I've been going back and forth for the last few weeks with what I want to get. I've had a crush on the SA-8's since they came out, and I want to do two of them in either a great ported enclosure or a t-line. A couple months ago I got the bug for a 3512, which I would do either bandpassed or ported. A few days ago, a guy on PBNation got a pair of 1508's, put them in a t-line, and posted some videos, so I got hooked on that. For the last few days, i've been debating among myself which one I want. These would be powered by an AP15001D, so 1500W @ 1 Ohm. I've got a 98 malibu, and I never drag stuff around, so trunk space isn't really an issue for the T-lines. I guess i'm looking for something that will give me decent enough SQ when I turn the volume down, but get loud without getting ridiculous and out of control like my Type-R seems to do. The R just isn't really giving me SQ in any capacity, haha If y'all wanna pitch in which enclosure you would recommend, too, that would be greatly helpful.

so you can make your windows flex more than mine with a pair of 10'

lrn2pirate Bittorrent ftw. Though I do occasionally buy some stuff on iTunes just to throw them off lol -
That's what my Type-R was, and it was pretty loud, but that's ALL it was. It didn't sound very good at all. edit: oh come on, 150 views and only 2 votes? You don't have to post to vote, people!

mmkay, I'll consider myself educated on that one. So between a bandpass 3512, ported 3512, ported SA-8's, or ported 1508's, which would you recommend?

Quarter-wave T-line, my bad and his was in a Ford Focus sedan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xN0qd6LZsI The Alpine just sort of went "brrrr brr brrrrrrr" and there wasn't really an attack/beginning to the note like i've heard most other subs do. It wasn't very tight, and forget about double bass. It just came out as one sort of half hearted blur of sound. (note the past tense, sold it about an hour ago on CL) It was an Alpine spec box (read: really tiny) I made myself, about 1.3 cubes iirc. Thanks for the suggestions. There's a guy on PBNation with a 3512D motor and basket he's be willing to get rid of for pretty cheap. He had said 150 before, but he mentioned that he got something else cheap recently, so he was willing to come down on the 3512. I need to see what he wants now. DD quoted me 80 bucks for a 3512 d2 recone. I think i'm going to just sit on the decision for a week or so, and see what I like then.

no, it will split that 3500 between the two subs.

wiring batt. Distribution block..?
effse7en replied to Jd377's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
nah unless there's some sort of circuitry in there, electrons are gonna go wherever they damn well wanna. on the fuses, i'd always seen the conventional wisdom be "match the amps' fuses, or 10a over that" but yeah the 150 will be fine. -
wiring batt. Distribution block..?
effse7en replied to Jd377's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
To me it sounds like it would work. It's basically doing the same thing, just using a single wire. -
If they steal the wheels, you're out wheels; if they break in to steal your audio, you're out 3 subs, wiring, amps, batteries, probably head unit, and a rear windshield, depending on how thorough they are. If I had a hatchback, I'd make it stealth-ish too.
-
dude, don't do this to yourself. I know high schoolers (i'm only 19), and they will straight up steal your shit. And if they don't, someone else will. You've gotta learn to beat responsibly. No parking lots, street lights, neighborhoods, etc. I'm not saying don't use your stereo, but you've gotta make sure you're not attracting attention to yourself at inopportune times, such as when your car is going to be alone for long periods of time (home, school, work). Sure, I'm a dick when i'm in Dallas, because so are they, but when i'm around my home town, I make sure that nobody looks at me more than they need to be looking at me. but yeah, you might wanna check the Amp, turn it up with a song you know will shut it off, then watch the amp and see if it goes into protect or turns off. I don't know Sundown amps, but i'm sure there's a light for both of those. Digging the setup, i'd hate to see it in a pawn shop like a friend of mine's probably is right now.

So i've been browsing around for some components in the ~75Wrms range, and I saw that Rockford Fosgate has some Power series components that fit the bill. The T1652-S and T2652-S look exactly the same, except for the fact that the T1 can be had online for 80 bucks, and the T2 is still around 200. As far as I can see, there is no difference except that cooling vent on the back, the tweeters are silver, and there's a pointy thing in the middle. If we're being honest, i'm not really going to push them too terribly hard, so I don't think that I would need the extra cooling. I guess my question is: does anyone have any experience with RF speakers, and does anyone know the real difference between the T1 and T2 Power series components? also, if you can kick in some suggestions for other 75Wrms (give or take) component sets around 100-200 bucks (the lower the better), that would be lovely.

Fuses are for the weak. Real men can sense the fire about to start and then put it out with their faces.
-
yeah but this is all going to have to be on a stock alternator, what do you think I am, made of money?
-
oh hell yeah, Steve Meade is my idol. I want 4 pairs of T2's in each door, and some custom 4" mids on my A pillars. Also, I can TOTALLY fit 4 AA SMD's in my trunk, I'll just to a blowthrough from the back seats. I'm gonna go get a loan for this tomorrow. THIS SHIT'S GOING DOWN!!!
-
If only I had the money right now, I would jump on those prices. I need to get a job first
-
ah but you see, the thing is, they are exactly the same on Rockford's website. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_compare.asp?cat_id=3&locale=en_US&comp=%28112904,112907%29 They even weigh the same, wtf? I'm sure the t/s parameters are different though. I'd love a set of Focals, but i'm a poor college student. I'm just looking for something in the good to great range right now, not OMGTOTALLYAMAZING!!!!1! I know that music isn't all in the bass, that's why i'm getting my speakers set up before just upgrading to a better sub.
-
They're obviously not using the right headphones I tested FLAC vs V0 VBR on a friend of mine who doesn't have quite the same ear as I do, and even he could tell the difference. But I agree, in a car, unless you have dipped thousands of dollars into making the audio completely perfect and sealed the car completely from outside noise, you don't need FLAC. Generally speaking, the speakers and amps just aren't good enough quality to warrant the FLAC versus, say, 256 or V0 VBR.

I used move if you wanna on my friend's car at a USACi contest. The bass is a bit too intermittent for USACi it turns out... I still got a 146 though, haha
-
I can't really advocate this as a right answer, but back when I was just starting out, we wired up my friend's sub in parallel by taking the wire from the amp, putting a crimp on it with two wires coming out of the other side, and used each of those wires for a positive, then the same for negative. I'm sure you can't find a crimp for 8 ga wire, but i'm just saying, you don't have to make the connection in the sub's terminals.
-
I have that one, it seems like the bass is sort of muddy.

UKF Dubstep drops 2 new tracks a day, and they're usually great. I've started listening to more dubstep lately. Usually 4chan has a dubstep thread going in /mu/ and their recommendations are always great. look up Paco Di Bango Deadmau5 remix. I heard that one for the first time the other night on his livestream of his NYC club set. It slams in my car.

ESX and ZED branded Zed amp pic's. Who has some clean ones?
effse7en replied to WRX/Z28's topic in ZED Audio
I just remembered something that's been sitting in my closet for a while. A friend's dad gave me a HiFonics Pegasus eq, was this Zed made? The Made In USA kind of makes me think that it might be Zed. The guy said he bought it some time back in the early nineties for around 600 bucks. That timeline sort of lines up. Trying to explain to my mom what an EQ is and does was interesting with only 6 hours of sleep last night, and i've been up since 9AM. I'm thinking that if I hook it up and this thing still works, it might go into my front stage if I ever get around to doing a front stage. -
yeah, audio, cool... So the car. that a V6 or a 5.0? I got to test drive a '10 GT last spring, That was probably the best day of the entire spring for me. I can only imagine how an extra ~100HP would do.

Dear god, I just read this whole thread. This is amazing, I wish you were in the states, I would love to see something like this in person.
