  1. Yep. Did the wifes Escape this summer. Came out great. Sub and amps are almost completely hidden in the hatch. Double din head unit with Vifa tweets and Dayton mids. Waiting on my Sundown SD-10s and then I can finish my sport trac. Starting the kids rx8 this week. Hope to get that done before he gets back from Afghanistan next June. Did a smaller watt system in my brothers 4runner. He just needs his new sub and then his will be done.
  2. Come next spring I'll be able to bring 3-4 cars. Should have them done by then.

    need some help/advice

The only shallow sub I have direct experience with is an Alpine Swrt10. Have it powered off an Sundown 1200d at 4 ohms. Very shallow mount depth. Optimal sealed box is .42^ gross. Sounds really good. Does a good job with all types of music. Does a better job ground pounding than I expected. Putting it in the wifes Escape cause I did go with the SD.2 tens. Gonna put four behind the seat. I honestly considered going with four of the Alpines behind the seat but they just cost so much.
  4. Great!!! Can't wait for my 4 tens.
  5. Thanks for checking in gps69. More people we can get involved tne better! I know what you are saying about the "flea market" products. Nobody up here knows what they are missing out on. Funny huh? I can not wait to see the RX-8 with the LS1!!! All my family lives in Lancaster, I travel down there often. Lebanon is only a stone throw away. So far Carlisle might me a good location for us all to plan a meet. Once I get my system ready I'll be up for a meeting. Waiting on the subs and the alt. Then I'll get to it. Son should be home on leave in mid to late October. Subs should be here by then so he'll help install that. He would be up for a get together too. The LS1 swap should be very nice. Will be getting that done around January. Also getting new heads and a cam vefore the install. Have a Paxtron supercharger sitting here now waiting for the swap. Should be around 650-700whp(that's what the engine did ion the Corvette it was in before we bought the SC for the swap) in a 3000lb car. Wonder how that swap will go over at the import shows he goes too?????
  6. My son(TiLL_iT_HeRTZ on here) and I are from Lebanon, PA. Our systems should be completed by next spring. Mine should be all but done this fall(waiting on my Sundown SD10's and DC alt.) but his rx8 is a ways off(needs all the audio installed and the LS1 swap completed) plus he is in Afghanistan with the National Guard till next July. I know he wants to try competeing and will probably drag me along lol. Definitely up for a meet sometime. Two shops local here(smaller town). Both never heard of Sundown and call it "flea market" junk and refuse to listen to it. I bought stuff back in the day from all the shops in Lancaster that you mentioned.

    Sundown NeoPro 6.5" Prototypes

I'll definitely be in on the preorder for these. Can't wait.
  8. Looking to order two alts. late this week early next week. Vehicle 1: 2004 Ford Explorer Sport-Trac. 4.0l engine. Looking at the 270xp. Vehicle 2: 2004 Mazda RX8. 1.3l rotary engine. Looking at the 220amp alt unless you offer something bigger. Shipping to PA, 17046 email: [email protected] Thanks, Glenn
  9. I checked that link and it appears I'll be OK with the origianl plan. Just wasn't sure I had enough port area. Was going to do a 4 SA-12 box for my son last spring and was told I needed 78"s of port area minimum for those. Didn't know how that was going to relate to the eights.. Thanks!!
  10. This is going in an RX8. Looking for a fairly good ground pounder with the ability to upgrade to 4 SA8's in the near future. Not sure This design has enough port area. Don't do too many ported boxes and would like to make sure before I waste the time building. Will be powered by a Sundown 2000D. Link to pic of enclosure I had worked up.:

Please Help with my Sub Stage

Videos weren't going to be the sole basis for deciding on a subwoofer. It was used more as a research tool. He watched videos of the subs that he is interested in and then tried to compare the different amp sub combinations used as well as trying to find the enclosure info. With the Sundown products he watched a lot of the vidoes on youtube of Jacob and Derrick824. He read all the questions and replies that were posted for the different set ups. he also searched the posts on here for those two to see what info he could gather from their posts. So with doing a thorough search on here and then seeing them in action it did help having the visual. We tried to keep the videos limited to good info we could find about that particular set up. The Fi BTL N2's were just released so very little info was found. Was kind of hoping for a miracle in finding any info or reviews other than the manufacturers. I know Fi makes a great product but it seems weird to design an entirely new subwoofer to only have ut perform like a previous model. Yes, the magnet is new, better and lighter but why settle for same old performance. It is great performance but why not strive for better while going through all that work. It doesn't sound like it but I am honestly not ripping them. They have their reasons and my thoughts don't mean anything to them or anyone else for that matter. Just makes me wonder. The Sa12 really seem to be a nice speaker. Many seem to get great results with both daily and SPL type set ups. Four of these would have tremendous potential but would it be beneficial to get a pair of 15" Z v2 or Nightshade v2's? The four the Sa12's would have a cone area advantage but would the extra motor force of the Z's or NS be more beneficial? The Z v2 seems to be a little harder to find info on. Looks like a nice speaker that is just a small step below the Nightshade in power handling. Mainly looking for opinions or fact about how it actually compares to the Nightshade v2. On the same 3500d and both in optimal enclosures will there even be a noticeable difference? With a single 3500d is it even worth considering the Nightshades? Are the Z v2 going to be discontinued once the Z v3 comes out? Worth waiting for the Z v3?

  15. 3 ohms will work on any amplifier that handles 4 or 2 ohm loads.... Which is pretty much all amplifiers. I'm running an Alpine MRV1005 two channel amp. Wanted to run the amp bridged mono at around 500 watts. I could run just one of the stereo channels but the power would be roughly 5 watts less than what the fronts stage recieves per channel. So yeah it would work.
  16. Plan "A" didn't work out so I need help with forming a plan"B". Plan "A" was to be a single 10" dcon under the passenger side rear seat. Can get the required airspace(.9 net) for the dcon but just cant get the depth to mount it. The sub could be installed but the magnet would literally be sitting on the back of the enclosure or the cone sitting on the floor. I used the search function and see some recommend shallow mount subs while others recommend running eights. In the posts I read there were mixed reviews on the performance of the shallow mount subs while the eights seem to be fairly popular. I would definitley consider the Sundown Sa-8 but I'm not sure I could fit the required port externally. Is there any good site to determine port length needed. I may have done something wrong but it appears to me the PSP site says for a .66 cubic foot enclosure I would need one 4" port at 42" long for a tuning frequncy of 34hz. Can't fit that. The Sa-8's aren't supposed to be run sealed so if I need to go sealed then would the Sundown e8 from the pre-sale be a good choice. Sealed box requirements for those are tiny so I could probably fit two. Goals would be good SQ but still be able to get down when needed. I have around 500 watts from an Alpine MRV1005 to power my subs. I listen to a little bit of everything except for country.
  17. Would there be any problem running a 3" aeroport external for the Sa-8's? Each would be in it's own enclosure. i just don't have the room for the length of a 4" port.
  18. The JL looks like a nice speaker but the 3ohm load just won't work with current amp and I'm not ready for an upgrade yet. So i guess I either take a chance on the Alpine type r thin or wait and see if the SI BM ever comes off backorder. I thought more people would comment on one of the Sundown 8" ideas I brought up.
  19. I've been reading all over the internet the suggestions that have been made. Many of the reviews on shallow subs I've read say they lack deep bass extension, lack general sound quality and have a buzzing sound to them from the flat cone of the speaker. Some say they sound great and not really any different from standard depth subs. The JL TW5 seems like a good option except for the 3 ohm coil. That wouldn't work with my Alpine amp. The SI BM also gets great reviews but again with dual 4 ohm coills not the best for my install. Not sure I have room for two of either of them. Re Audio SL is tougher to find a review on. The few I did find seemed to be positive. Re Audio doesn't seem to be too popular on here or should I say very few people use them. The Polk Audio MM1040 has a lot of good reviews and a shallow depth of around 4.5" which I could probably make work. Problem is most reviews are those left on retailers sites so I'm a little leary on those reviews. Sundown Sa-8 is intriguing. I could make two fit but I would need to run a 3" aeroport externally to make them work length wise. Would a 3" port provide enough port area? Would there be too much port noise from the 3" even if mouinted under the rear seat. Each sub would be in it's own enclosure. Sundown e8v.2 from pre-sale. Jacob posted they could be used in .2 to .3 ft.^3 sealed. I could make four of these work with a little work. I've heard a pair of the pioneer shallow mounts personally and they were terrible. They were mounted in a pre fab box so I'm sure that had something to do with it but how much is the questions. If I'm wrong on these please let me know. The Alpine type R thin are so new I can't find any reviews on them.
  20. I have experience with 3 of the drivers on my first list and one of them is the JL. I can tell you it's a nice driver, but not worth the coin. If it were around $250-$300, it would be worth it, but in comparison to the other drivers available, I think you get more bang for your buck going elsewhere. Which three do you have the direct experience with? Pros or cons of those.
  21. Thanks for the suggestions. Been looking over all of them. Read some reviews and some of them say the shallow subs don't hit the lows like a regular sub because of the design and the limited excursion. Is this the case? Also found the Polk MM subs and Fosgate p3 shallow both of which have mounting depths under 5" which may be doable. Anyone have any opinions or experience with either of those subs? Still considering either of the Sundown eights. Just want the best I can get in there.

help me decide on my sub stage...

Any of these set ups will kill your previous 15 sealed system. All three will do what you want and make you very happy. I personally don't think you could make a wrong choice here. So go with the 15s unless you like the look of four 12s.
  23. I installed an Alpine CDE-102 in the wifes Escape. It sounds great. Can't wait to actually upgrade the rest of the system to see how it does. I just installed the Alpine CDA-117 last weekend in my Sport-trac and I love it. Very easy to use Ipod/Iphone controls and the EQ's are great. Also has built in time correction but I haven't messed with that yet. Very happy with my decision.

Did you get any more info for when you are getting out? Just wondering how time we will have to get this install done before winter hits.
