A list of features you want in the new unit would be helpful. -

Welcome to SSA! The Dcon and 9500 series from MTX are very different drivers as pointed out previously by everyone else who has posted in this thread. If output is the main concern, the 9512 has the potential to get very loud and handle much more power than the Dcon. If you got it out of a dumpster and was returned for warranty purposes there is probably something defective about it. Have you checked the coils with a DMM or just looked at them and decided they were good? Without any information at all about the amp you are using, we can't say with confidence that you should upgrade your amplifier. Once again, the 9500 series from MTX is quite capable of producing impressive output. You figure you can get $250 or more for a used subwoofer that you pulled out of a dumpster? Without more information, we can only guess at the level of performance provided by your previous setup. In an optimal enclosure with >1kw, an 18" Fi Q should have more output at a lower frequency than a 9512 or Dcon15.

I wonder how many people were freaking out when they saw 'em.

A tractor is a must, that's a handy size to have too, you can do a lot with a 30 horse. I think those were Japanese but I could be mistaken.

they certainly have tons of shit and cheap as can be

Will the SSA discount be applied to these DIY enclosures?

Is it a daily driver? I think you may experience a decrease in fuel economy. It would be good for a trail rig though. -
I'll be getting in touch with you today about a possible local DIY.
-
I think you would be very happy with any of the drivers you listed. I would save for the Xcon personally but if you want to keep a bit of cash in your pocket, the Icon or BL would be my choice.

Sweet gifts indeed, going to use 'em to do something special with the new enclosure?
-
Good choice, I can't wait to see this one finished.

Looks pretty good, I hope it holds up really well for you. You should take pics on a regular basis like once a week or bi-weekly without touching it up. It would make for a cool experiment and you can post up a sweet picture review. sounded like a cool idea after many swigs of vsop. -
to SSA! I used to stay in SoCal, but I'm in Oklahoma now. You could save yourself a lot of money by installing your own equipment. Almost everything is simple and can be done with a few tools, I don't have any audio installed in shops anymore.

Just like the BTL will be louder than the BL with same power, the Zcon will also be louder than the Xcon given the same power.

I really dont want to add more power at this point. I had 2 m1005's and was planning on getting a BTL. Unfortunately, one of the amps blew. Now I am content with just the one. My electrical system was really strained with the two ampss my main drivers amp, and i dont really want to pay for the big three or a HO alternator (my car is aging, with 200K miles on it). I want to work with what I have. I would get about $150-200 for my amp on ebay, and I cannot afford a sundown amp at this time even after that sale, I know I said dollars wernt an issue but only to a point. I wast banking on swapping EVERYTHING. So assuming there will be no more power upgrades, i dont think the BTL woudl be my best option. Its interesting though that you guys think I could push it with 1000 RMS. I have always been told to never ever power a sub with less than 2/3 of its rated RMS, or you risk a blowing.\ I agree with you all though. Sundown amps are Badazz, to say the least... Whoever told you this was either lying or ignorant. The BTL will be louder than a BL or Q on the same power period.

If output is your main concern, why not shop for a used BTL?

Seems like the whole place has been slow all weekend.
