I am wanting to add more low end to my truck and I think I have decided to do a rear console. But I dont know which way to fire the sub or subs. The box will be roughly 2.4cu and is 14x28x14. This is going in a 07 Harley F250. Here is a few pics of a cardboard make up box. So should I do one 12 rear facing and ported or do 2 10's or 2 12's down firing sealed? If I do a down firing box it will need to come up 2-3 inches so it would be alittle higher than pics. The box will be black carpet to match. Looking for hard hitting low clean bass. I could maybe get another .5 if I slope the front and bring it down. Looking at either SA-10's 12"s or SSA Dcon or ICONS and a SA-1500 amp. And what it will replace. I could redo this box and make it 1.35cu but dont think I care much for the sound from the front firing setup. And you can see there will be a few inches of clearance if firing the rear. Any help is appreciated

Thanks alot for the replies! After doing more measuring if I use all space available I will have a L shaped box that runs in the center and behind the drivers side back seat where the original sub is. I would like to have the subs fire down because I do want this to look as good as possible. I will wrap it in black carpet or vinyl and put the stock leather Harley arm rest on top. I do not have a diagram program on my computer so I will try and explain it. It will be 34-36in from the front of the box to the back wall 14in wide and 14in tall, then it will make a right turn and go 22in long, 14in high and 6in deep. This leaves behind the back passenger seat open for the amp. So remember the mounting surface is only 14in wide so a 15 is out of the question unfortunately. The rest of the setup is a Alpine Multi media/nav head unit, 4 Alpine Type-R 5-7 coaxials and a Alpine PDX-4.150 amp. The current 10in is also running off of this but I will take it out and add a set of tweeters up on the pillars and dedicate the Alpine amp just for the mids and highs. A SAz-1500D will power the subs unless I need more. So I still am torn between 2 ported 10's, 3 sealed 10's, 2 sealed 12's or 2 ported 12's. Thanks again for the replies

I was maybe thinking that. now I am wondering if I should stay with two 10's or try and squeeze three 10's in there. With 3.5 to 4cu before displacement and port I am thinking of the most output I can get and play cleanly.

Ok, so if I utilize the space behind the seat and make the box an L shape that will make it a total of 3.5 cu to work with before port and sub space. That should give me more options as to what to do now.

Will I have to add size somewhere to get one ICON 12 to work with my dimensions after port? And should I remove the seats and back carpet and do Dynamat or some sort of sound deadening. The amp(s) will go on the wall behind the seat in place of the existing sub. Thanks

Any suggestions?

You talking about running an external port? I dont think I have enough airspace for two 12's and porting do I? I could see one 12 rear facing with the port rear facing. Would this sound good in my application? The little ole Fosgate P2 just dont cut it! lol

I hit 149-150 at 40hz on the dash with music on that setup.

I had two 15in Diamond M3's downfiring in the truck of my Lincoln Mark8. I had the spare tire and everything removed and the subs fired down into the spare tire well. The box was a large sealed setup and it hit HARD!! I wish I had video of that car but that was 6-8 years ago. It was very impressive and it use to shock people how hard and clean it hit. I would love to do another setup like that with some SSA's or Sundowns.

I will be soon upgrading my current sub and box setup in my F250. I am limited on space and think I can go 1.5cu without much issue or maybe even up to 2.cu if I add an extension piece. My goal here louder deeper harder hitting setup. Here is a pic of the space I can work with and my current box. 1 10in Fosgate p2 in .53 sealed. I can easily double the size of the current box or I can make almost like a L shaped box to utilize the lower section behind the pass side. Without using the the lower pass side I think I could do one that is (17in H.. 33in W.... 5in D1.....8in D2) this would be outside diameter and I will be using 3/4 MDF. This should be about perfect for one 12in Icon sealed correct? Or should I use that other side aswell and do two 10in Icons with no separator between in roughly 2.cu sealed (total) or just do two sealed Icon 10's in .70 each side. Does anyone see anything I dont? the back seats do not slide forward, just recline. Looking for all around good sound and something that will hit hard and low. Thanks

Another newbie here that clearly did not read, lol. I have already made a thread in the sub section.... sorry. Anyway, I'm 34 years old and married with a couple kids. I recently bought a truck from friend that has a nice setup but the audio bug has bitten me again and now I am looking to upgrade the low end of the system. He spent alot of money getting this all done and installed clean with quality parts but it just doesnt hit hard enough for me. Current setup is Alpine Multi Media headunit (Nav, Bluetooth, DVD, aux, sat, etc etc.) Alpine 4.150 Alpine door speakers, (4x6's I think ) they sound great! one Rockford Fosgate P2 in a .53 sealed box Looking to upgrade to some SSA subs or something similar. Thanks

Awesome build!! Cant wait to hear how the 18's do. That is gonna pound seriously!! -
Thank you for the replies. I started a thread showing a pic of the space I am dealing with in the Fabrication forum thinking that would be better.

Hey guys, I am looking to get alittle advice on a sub or subs for my truck. 2007 F250 HD crew cab with bucket seats in the back. (daily driver) Right now it has a Alpine 7in touch screen Multi Media head unit, Alpine 4.150 running Alpine mids and highs and also running one 10in Fosgate P2 in a .53 cuft sealed box behind one of the back seats facing forward. It sounds good and very clean but the one sub in that little box just dont cut it for me. The last real system I had was 2 15in Diamonds in a big sealed enclosure down firing into the spare tire well of a Lincoln Mark 8. (10 years ago lol) I do not have much room to play with here but I was looking and I can build a 1.50-1.75 wedge type back there. I have always had sealed enclosures and may prefer to stay that way it I can get it to do what I want. I want what everyone wants,...loud, clear, low etc etc. I listen to Rock, Metal, Rap and R&B. With 1.5-1.75 of box to use I was thinking of going with a 10in SSA ICON or a 12in SSA ICON, I will probably add another amp to run whatever sub set up I choose. Will this be enough to satisfy me? Can I even get something that hits hard out of a front facing truck style box? Thanks
