As title states, Equipment: -Alpine 9835 in 3-way mode, HP for Tweets, BP for Mids, LP for Subwoofer. 6/12/18/24 dB/oct slopes at various FREQ's. - RE XXX 6.5's currently in .25-.3 cubes SEALED door pods. (2ohm) -Vifa 1" Neodymium Textile Dome autosound Tweeters. (6ohm) -Kicker KX 600.4, 150x2rms for mids @2ohms, ~45-50 x2rms for Tweeters. I haven't even turned it on yet, but currently I have it setup as follows: Sub: LP @63hz 24dB/oct Mids: HP @63hz 24dB/oct, LP @2.5Khz 24dB/oct Tweets: HP @2.5Khz 24dB/oct I would like input as far as the FREQ/SLOPES go, ESPECIALLY the slopes. Is it ALWAYS good to go with steep slopes for ALL settings? Is it better to use say, 12,18 dB/oct slopes for one component or the other? Please, give me some input. I'm going to head out right now...fire it up...and take a listen! Thank you -Noah

Adjusting FREQ/SLOPE for active setup...INPUT?
ngsm13 replied to ngsm13's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Damn... Well I'm gonna have to find some1 with an RTA around here. BUT, bad news...for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON my Kicker went up in smoke. Really...no reason. I double checked all connections b4 i fired it up, then after it happened, I checked over connections again. Anyways, the white smoke came POURING out big time. Popped open the case, and 5 MOSFETS are not just fried...they are CHARRED and flaking off hardcore. So, I don't know what the deal is NG -
You're a dummy... They're MUCH quicker, cheaper, and more convenient. Believe me I shopped around, and my business account is through DHL b/c of the three above reasons... NG

You can bend MDF easily...use a saw and cut withing 1/16th of an inch of going through the wood...every few inches... Ok...wait...maybe it's not easy NG

By active you mean the bi-amping option. what would be the best way SQ wise to lower the tweets I don't like them to bright or is it more mid bass I crave???. Should I lower the amp gain or the deck output level. I have done a lot of installs but being self taught I still have a lot I want to learn on my way to better SQ. If I do the active off the deck how do I hook up some rear fill if I wanted to. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> By going active he means ditching the passive xovers that came with the components...and using the Alpine 7998's internal 3-way xover. There is a switch on the bottom of the unit to switch it to 3way mode. You need a 4channel amp... You can highpass the Tweets (Use front pre-out to amp...2 channels), Bandpass the Mids ( Use rear pre-out to amp...2 channels), and then use the Subwoofer pre-out for the sub obviously (and you can set the Lowpass for the subwoofer...and run the amp "full-range" b/c the HU will take over the Lowpass duties ). All of these xover points are adjustable as well 6dB/oct to 24dB/oct YAY!!! NG
