poly fill in a sealed enclosure...question

worry about power handling? How so? if you don't mind explaining. Are you saying that with a larger sealed enclosure it would take more power to run the sub properly?

    weird

hey! thats a neat idea. I never thought of mounting the subs that way. whats the cu. ft of your trunk? I could never do that in my car. my trunk is 20 cu. ft. so now you have a ported trunk... hey what ever works right?!

Help a NOOB pick some Subs.....

go for 2 Stereo Integrity Mag D2 15" subs.

best SQ from a ported box

you will most likely miss the output. In a sealed enclosure its not that loud. it works well for blending in with the music though. just my 2 cents. when I'm in my car the bass radiates through the cabin and me. if I step out of my car I can hear the bass but its very low and most peopl most likely wouldn't realize I have a 15" Sub in my trunk. Like I said though, inside the cabin it sounds good. low Hz blend with comps and you really need great comps with good mid bass if you want a SQ system and a sealed RL-p for SQ

    RL-P, what to expect???

yeah I noticed exactly that. really low Hz sound very good. I actually like the 28 to 50 Hz range. If I go ported down the road I will port to 28 Hz most likely.
  6. hey everyone. I just wanted to know what size hole was cut in your enclosure to house a 15" RL-p. If I'm not mistaken on Sound Splinters web page it states that the diameter is 13.85 to the outsid edge of the surround. So what I did was cut out a hole that measured 13.85 inches. I put my sub in the box and it wouldn't fit. the whole was about 1/2 inch too small or more. ten minutes later with my trusty jig saw the sub was in and clearing properly. what measurement did you guys use to install a 15" RL-p?? they should update their web page with the correct mesurements. (or did I miss something?)

sub diameter to cut hole for enclosure 15"

No problem. It wasn't a huge deal, and was easily fixed.

sub diameter to cut hole for enclosure 15"

Read my post right above the one you posted and you will see that I found my mistake. I figure you didn't read my post and that is why you are confused.

sub diameter to cut hole for enclosure 15"

I know 13.976 is bigger than 13.85. on the sound splinter web page they have 13.85 listed. the whole I had to cut for the sub ended up being a bit larger than 14". as for the micrometer I measured out 13" on my template and then used the micrometer to add the .85". Also i didn't come here to argue. In my initial post I admitted maybe I over looked something and was just asking a question. I see where I went wrong now too. I was looking at the diagram in the upper left corner of that page you posted. I missed the info on the right hand side all together.

sub diameter to cut hole for enclosure 15"

That can't be correct. 13.976 inches? I cut mine to 13.85 I even used a micrometer. I then measured it when the sub would not fit and the measurement from one end of the suround to the other was a bit over 14" now I'm really confused.

    RL-P, what to expect???

I'm one of the few people (very few) that seem to be a little let down with the performance of the RL-p. I just bought a 15" RL-p and its hooked up to a Directed 1500 amp. pushing 1100wrms @ 1 ohm. sub is in a 2.25 cu. ft sealed enclosure and inverted. its pretty deep but its not as loud as I thought it would be. I own two L7 solo's that I use in my living room. they are both sharing a 1000 watt amp. those things are CRAZY loud. but they are a SPL woofer. I think my mistake was putting this RL-p in a small sealed enclosure. I most likely going to build a ported enclosure and see how it works. Maybe I'll run some video on my sub in action and post it here for you guys to see/hear. Its most likely performing exactly how it should and my expectations were just too high. All I ever read/heard about RL-p subs was/is how awesome they are. I will say one thing though, it might not get loud enough for me but it without a doubt gets deep enough.

    Hey there!

Just popping in to say Hi.
  13. Hey guys. Just saw this forum. I'm buying a 15" SI MAG D2 in a month or so. I want to design a box asap so that I can drop the sub right in as soon as I buy it. I'm going SQ over all but I want it loud too. Just not at the expense of SQ. I have my box designed pretty much. I was going to go 3 cu ft. And here is my question: for a sealed enclosure with a min of 1000wrms and maybe up to 1200wrms in a TRUNK of a large car (mercury grand marquis) what would be the best size box in your opinion? 2.6 cu. ft? 2.8 cu. ft? LESS, or more? Or am I on the right track with a 3 cu ft enclosure? I listen to rock mostly but rap as well. a lot of classic rock all the way up to death metal. rap core too... Any input would be awesome guys. I was planning on a 18x17x17 box (19-1/2 x 18-1/2 x18-1/2) 3/4" MDF

Building my first box and have a ? about cu. ft.

I don't understand. why do I need to put polyfill in the box? what will that do for the enclosure? How does it help? and is it needed if the box is bigger or only if the box is smaller? also, where can you buy this stuff? can any insulation be used? also should I place accoustic panels on the inner walls of the box as well? like Dybamat or something?

can someone tell me the difference I will hear between a smaller cu ft enclosure Vs a larger one?
