If your going for sq over spl and wanting to use a saz1000 then why not go with 2 dcon 10's sealed? Good sq with abilitly to get decently loud. -
Ported enclosure sealed from trunk to armrest pass through
bowtieguy replied to hardballer7's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
I thought about that, but it's way more complex. Also, I was under the impression that if I did a bandpass enclosure I wouldn't get the frequency response I'm looking for from 30-40 hz. the response will be based on your tuning, it is a complex build but would be well worth it in the end. Think about it, all bass is sent into the cabin area via ski passage. Advantage = no trunk rattle. The bigger you can build the box the better the response curve is. -
Ported enclosure sealed from trunk to armrest pass through
bowtieguy replied to hardballer7's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
I had a kia with the armrest passage and was looking for something similiar to force more sound thru the opening. I was working on building a bandpass with port thru the passage. I know that they are more complex to build but in theory all the sound comes from the port which would be straight thru the passage and leaving almost no trunk rattle. Just an Idea. -
I am currently running 2 12" icons ported off a sundown 1500 in an extra cab mazda and loving it. You wont be disappointed.

I was reading the topic about running 1 vc on a dvc sub, started reading on a link provided in one of the posts by Impious and it got me to thinking. I have 2 SSA Icon d1 subs and want to keep a 1 ohm load, which would be the better option for best daily output off a Sundown 1200v2? Run each vc per sub in series then parallel pairing the subs or parrellel per vc and series pairing the subs? Both subs sharing airspace in a ported box. I hope i am explaining this correctly.

My first build was not posted here since it was before I found this awsome site but I will post a few pics of it. I recieved my Sundown SAE 1200 amp today and awaiting the 2 SSA Icon 12d1 subs. The box will be ported instead of sealed this time with subs firing up, still poundering on port location. Should I go out the side on bottom or up also? The box will be approx. 4.1 cubs tuned to 30hz. Picking up wood tomorrow after work and hopefully start cutting sat mornin. I know its alot of trial and error but if anyone has experience with extra cab trucks and port locations feel free to add. Here is the current set up in my 95 Mazda B3000 Kenwood KDC-X790 head unit JL Audio e4300 amp for mids and highs JL Audio VR650-CSi Component System Phillips Sound Lab 3 way cross over Hifonics Brutus Bxi1208d JL Audio 12w3v3-4 subs Here is whats coming out More pics to come soon. Gotta whipe all the finger prints and drool off the new amp

I got some more done with the box today, more to do next weekend. Rubber type seal for plexyglass, sand, 3/8 round over bit on edges, finish painting the inside, and carpet the outside. Should have the box ready next saturday then figure out the amp rack. A few pics of the rough finish from today.

#5 in front with #8 on the back side would be sweet. -
So I want to make some MDF speaker rings...
bowtieguy replied to deernet's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
If you use the router to cut first then trim the outside off you would have a larger piece of wood to handle in the begining, just a thought if this idea is used. -
Hifonics brutus BRZ 1200.1 or Sundown SAZ 1000.1
bowtieguy replied to ExplicitYourSelf's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I just swapped out a Hifonics brutus BXI1208 for a Sundown SAE-1200Dv2 both rated at 1200rms at 1 ohm. I would choice Sundown over Hifonics any day. -
I swapped out JUST the amp today, couldn't resist the temptation of trying it out. All I can say is why have I not made this purchase earlier. Sundown Kicks ass. And of all things its made about an hour away from my house. I might have to make a trip to see them in person and shake their hand. If anyone has any thoughts of getting one all I can say is DO IT. The Hifonics I had in here before just does NOT compare. Sorry guys the rest of the build will have to be put off for 2 weeks, gotta wait for another pay check to fund the rest of the supplies needed. But More will come.

Got some progress done before I ran out of funds. Got most of the wood cut for my box and built 2 quick boxes for the JL's that are currnetly in the truck. Gonna put one in my gf's car and hook on up in the living room on the surroound sound. Heres a few pics so far. The sexy amp The two boxes for the JL's, just quick throw together boxes, still gotta sand and cover them And what I have so far on my box. Still waiting for subs, plexyglass, and mirror to be delivered. There is alot left to do to the box since the inside will be visible, gotta decide on inside covering. This box will probably take some time and wait for more extra cash to come in.

I having been using BBP 6 and WinISD to design a ported box for 2 Icon 12D1 and getting 2 different port lenghts. Could someone confirm which one is more accurate? My box will be made with 3/4 mdf 17 1/4 high 48 wide and 14 deep outside measurements. After sub and port displacement BBP 6 calculates this to be 4.043 cubs with a port 12.5 X 3 at 32 1/4 long tuned at 27h. WinISD says same specs with port length at 27.94. This is going in a 95 Mazda B3000 extra cab powered by a Sundown SAE 1200 for daily usage. I am fairly decent at box building but mainly just built sealed boxes. I want to try a properly designed tuned box for this new setup. Am I heading in the right direction, and could someone confirm which port length should be used? I know they are close but want it as close to perfect as possible. Or should I go for a little higher tuning? I know there is alot of knowledge on this site, I have been reading thru alot of it instead of making posts. So any help from the professionals on here will be greatly appreciated.
-
I figured BBP would be a little closer to correct since it will take the port space out of the box when calculating the port size where WinISD doesn't. Would this not be a major factor when using a slot port? I will probably change the tune to 30h also.

Thanks and thank you SSA. There will be plenty of pics

I feel like a little kid waiting on christmas to open presents. I have been reading over and over on this forum. I just placed an order for 2 Icon 12d1 subs and a Sundown sae1200 amp. Once they come in a build log with pics will follow. I have heard nothing but great things about the customer support from SSA that really sold me along with all the people on this forum backing it up. I know I will be very happy with this decision. I am excited, can't wait, and had to share it. I am sure many of you have had this feeling before.

Great work so far, I been watching this build for ideas on what to do with amp placement for my rebuild. In a 95 Mazda B3000 x-cab.
-
I've used several of these also for the price and sound cant beat them.

This is something I am saving up for, so semi budget minded. I currently have 2 JL Audio 12w3v3 in a sealed box about 3.6 cub with 1500 rms MA Audio amp. I want to upgrade amp and subs. Subs will help decide what amp I get, I am trying to decide between a pair of Sundown SA-12 and SSA ICON 12. I have been looking and studing both for a while but cant decide since I have heard great about both, and looking for some advice to persuade me one way or another. This will be for a daily driver setup listening to rap/rock mostly. I prefer to stay with a sealed box but a new box will be made for the new subs. If it helps this is going in a 95 Mazda B3000 xcab.
-
I would prefer a pair of 12s either sa or icons and plan to build the box myself. I am pretty good at that and can save some money on that part too.
-
I have the big 3 done already will do more as needed. The current set up is ok just looking for more output but with decent quality still too. Its a semi budget minded, I am saving up money for one or the other. If I go the Icon route i just save a little longer.
-
Similiar but xcons are not in my range since I want a pair thats why I was looking at the icons instead
