Replacing 2x 10" in existing enclosure...
DaberAudio replied to DD51's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I think they would work pretty nicely, however, do you have enough power for them? -
Replacing 2x 10" in existing enclosure...

Do you know what the tuning frequency is? What is the diameter and length of those ports? Sorry for the late reply. -
After tons of delays, and lots of waiting, the Daber Audio SQL DVC 12 is now ready. I will post more pics tonight as well as T/S specs. I know you guys have probably seen the below pictures, but I wanted to post them again as a reminder. :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

You are correct. There are similarities between the two subs. Thanks for the compliments!

I don't have a definitive date, but it won't be too terribly long.

I've got a local guy who looks like he will be the first to own one. I will post pics of his box and hopefully get him to register and post a review. Stay tuned!

Ok guys, here are the spec with coils in parallel: RE: 2.07 ohms FS: 18hz QMS: 4.17 QES: .49 QTS: .439 LE: ..301 SD: 515 cm2 XMAX: 14mm 1 way MMS: 380g Coil size: 2.5 inches RMS: 700w I will be intro-ing them at the same sale price we are offering in the online SSA store right now, $169 each plus shipping.

Thanks Guys! A lot of people have been emailing me asking for these, so I'm anxious to see some install pics on here! Price will be revealed a little later tonight when I throw up the spec sheet. Just got done with dinner and I need to hang with my daughters for a while and get them ready for bed. Stay tuned!

Big E, If you go to the SSA store, click on the woofers, you will see that there have been reviews left by users. I hope that helps.

New woofers coming! Details will be coming on a slow but consistent basis. What can I tell you so far? More XMAX than the "SQL", higher power handling, multiple coil configurations, larger coils, bigger magnets, etc. Price? Well...you'll get a lot of bang for your buck. STAY TUNED!!!! :dj:

Found a random video on youtube. Thought I'd post it here.

I've got a few minutes of down time and decided to upload a few photos I have of cars (and a boat) that have our subs in use. I need to get pictures of the rest of the emailed to me, but I thought you guys might enjoy seeing a few photos. First up is a car that belongs to a guy named Kyle. He seems to be pretty happy. He has some kind of amp that I've never heard of, XXX or something like that. It's basically pushing no power to it. When he upgrades we'll try to get some meter results on it. It sounds good, but it's got a lot of room to improve with more power going to it.

Nice review guys !

Well, now that this has turned in to a logo thread, how about you guys who have suggestions email your rendering to [email protected] .

Thank you. That's kind of the idea behind the SQL woofers. They sound phenomenal, are rugged, and they put up very impressive numbers with minimal power. But yeah, I agree with you. These woofers offer someone the chance to get in to the 140s on a term lab without breaking the bank, needing gobs of power, huge enclosures, upgraded alternators, etc. John's civic is doing 140.6 with a Boston GT50 (I think it's 300 RMS @ 2ohms) and two SQL-12s in the trunk, and I'm confident that Christian's truck is doing a 140 or better (we'll know next week - you'll all see the video) with a single 12 and 380 RMS. In the near future I am going to be doing a Dodge Nitro for a friend with two SQL-12's and at least a kilowatt, and I will post videos of that too. Also, now that I have gotten rid of the GTO and am driving a turd that I don't feel about rattling to death, I'm going to devote some free time to finally doing a personal vehicle. I'm not 100% sure yet, but I think i'm going to do 4 12's in a 626, forward firing through the back seats. It will be a Vee enclosure with a center port. I can't wait to see some build logs from you guys.

I just confirmed with Christian, the owner of the Red F-150, that SPL testing is on for next tuesday. I WILL post video this time
-
Thanks! We put up a low quality (junk camera) video of an SQL-12 with 380 RMS on it in an extended cab F-150 last night. We will be putting up a video of that truck getting metered next week, assuming the kid has the time to do it, which he should. The video is in the Daber Audio forum in the "Daber Subs In Use" thread.

As many others have said, I think it's awesome that you guys are doing this together. When I was growing up my dad only came to one of my competitions and missed my run because he was outside of the expo building pouring a beer in to a Mt. Dew can since no alcohol was permitted on the premises

Anton, Twisted Child is correct. Like I was saying last night, a four channel would be necessary. The reason for this is due to the fact that a two channel amplifier simply has a left and a right output. There is now way to make a single channel send out a hi pass and a low pass (or band pass) signal. The only way to come close to this would be to run a hand built crossover to the SQL-8, but I would advise against this for a multitude of reasons. With a four channel amplifier though, it becomes much easier. Also, you will have the ability to adjust the output levels more precisely and better integrate the front soundstage "midbass" drivers in the the rest of your system. Having said all of that, if you were willing to step up to a four channel, you'd have a very interesting set up.

Thanks! As far as Tim's car goes, I'd kill to drive that thing. I don't know if you've ever been to a Top Fuel race, but it's hard to believe that people can actually drive something that fast and loud. I'd love to take a term-lab up in to the stands. They blur my vision with every single pass.

You know, Anton, I've never thought about using it in that application. I think if it were part of a custom made 3 way system and used more as a "midbass" than a "midrange" it would be acceptable, but not in a two way. It just really isn't well suited for a two way system. so if i bought a sundown 2 channel amp and went with a passive 2 way speaker set up but used the 8" sub for the "woofer" part of the amp and used the 2 way passive system for the "highs" would it do ok? not sur eif im explaining this good enough... it would be like going active, just with a single 8" subs by itself playing from about 60 hz to say 200 hz and the 2 way passive picks it up from there. IDk, i think outside the box with things, feel free to be brutally honest with me! lol Yeah, that would be do-able. The real question is, do you have room? Mounting depth and enclosure volume would be a concern. Honestly, you could run it lower that 60 though, unless you are worried about canceling your woofers out. Let me play around some in the morning and try to simulate what you are doing. I like to sell woofers, but I don't want to lead you in the wrong direction. What component set would this be coupled to? I think I misread your post. I think you'd be much better off with a 4 channel amplifier. If I feel comfortable with this set up I can build you a separate outboard crossover if need be. Of course, you'd have to pay for that seperately, but I'd just charge parts and minimal labor. Let me kick this around overnight/tomorrow morning. Thanks! right now i have these Amazon.com: Polk Audio DB6501 6.5-Inch 2-Way Component System (Pair, Silver): Electronics they are a 6.5" woofer with a 1 inch tweeter, just need more midbass i guess, i havent put these on an amp or anything, but ill be buying a sundown 2 channel in the next few weeks and like i said i like to think outside the box. lol
