  1. The 77m was too weak. I ended up using the 3m 'Super Trim adhesive' Make sure its the "SUPER" cause they make other strengths in the same looking can. I agree that the 77m is not the route to go. The 3M 80/90 is better, but only marginally. It will let go at some point (been there, done that). I use some stuff a friend of mine has that comes in a 5 gallon bucket, is a funky orange color and will make you higher than a kite ( ) while working in his 40x60 shop. He buys it at a local fabric/interior design/auto covering supplier. Of course, I just "borrow" some of his. I always use his sprayer, but I think if you could buy it in smaller quanties you could brush it on. Heck a local supplier might be able to make you up some small quanity spray cans of some really good adhesive. I know a couple of local auto body supply shops do it with paint. Couldn't hurt to check.
  2. And I thought the last install was nuts. The pods look good. As far as vinyl wrapping, just remenber that a good hair drier or a low powered heat gun is your friend.

Linear Power & Blues Car Audio

Let's just say that Ray has been experimenting. And my truck gets used for A/B testing before Rich's gets the final result. Our trucks are pretty the same in front of the B-pillar (same dash, windshield, A-pillars, doors), with the exception of my Crew Cab and his regular cab. Unfortunely we are in the same class (Modified Q) at Nationals.

Talked to Rich last night. He won Tulsa. Rich, see ya at the house this weekend for Chilaxin' in Jackson.

Rich just keeps knockin' em down. Another win this past weekend. Another new judge wow'ed. Can you say World Points Leader in SQ for USACi?

    Trunk Setup Positioning

I've always found it was better to play with it based on the car it was going in, specifically as to whether the rear seat folded down or not. In my G-body cars (GN, Monte Carlo, etc) I always had the best sound and pressure firing forward with the front sealed off from the trunk. And it did not matter the power level or tuning freq, it just sounded better and played louder and lower that way. But, note that these cars did not have a fold down rear seat. I've always taken the entire width of the trunk between the wheel wells with this body style car, so sealing the front off from the trunk just always made sense. Now it doing a single sub or a couple of small subs that do not require the whole area, it could be that firing back might work out for the best since you would not seal the trunk off from the cabin. In the cars with fold down rear seats I always found that rear facing was best no matter the power level or tuning freq. It could have been mostly because fold down rear seats have a hard backing on them that does not allow good sound wave pass through into the car cabin. In a hatchback, it was always best rear firing no matter the power level or tuning freq. I've always preferred tuning at or below 34 Hz, but I'm more of an SQ type. In the most basic terms it's going to come down to your experimentation to find what works best for you. Good luck and have fun with it.

Enclosure Build for BanginGMC (Two 15 Inch *Surprise*)

It takes a damn good bit of patience to cut those ports like that. Looks great.

    Sir-Lancelot's Build Log - Updated July 17th - Page 8

The Photoshop pic looks good. When I painted the bumpers on my white T-type, I had the chrome sandblasted off the bumpers, then came back up with an etching primer, sealer, then paint and clear. They were still nice and white when I sold the car.

    peerless 6.5" sls midbass

x2 on all in. Been there, done that, got boxes of old cheap cr#% that I've thrown out over the years. I tried the road of using cheap to test stuff and I'll say that a good 80% of it didn't work out. Either the cheap sounded decent enough to try expensive and didn't work out or cheap sounded like azz so the expensive was never tried. I can also say that going all in has burned my wallet also when it didn't work out. Granted, it's easier these days to sell off your unwanted equipment, cheap or expensive. Watching.

Very well said Impious. It all goes back to the install. I tried the Hybrid stuff prior to hearing the Blues prototyes. I tried a L6, L1Pro setup (passive and active) followed by a L8, L4, L1 Pro setup (all active and active/passive combo) and just could not get the blend/sound I was looking for. I will say that I was also just not willing to really cut my truck up to get to L8 to work better. And I probably could have put more time into tuning to tweak things out. But when I heard the 1st set of Blues prototypes, I pretty much paid for them on the spot. And each time I heard them, they just got better and better. I have not pulled my hair out trying to tune them either.

Corba, where are you at in Ohio? If I had paid attention to this thread I could have let you hear my Blues 6.5's when I was in Cincy. Keep plugging and you will figure it out. From looking at the pics, I have to wonder if the dash is causing some of your issues?

Help choosing a 10 inch midbass driver.

Or I would suggest the new Blues 8's. I've heard them in one of our team installs (kicks) and in a pair of the old Blues Home Audio 8" cabinets. Very nice and in some respects better than my Blues 6.5's. John

    My 500HP V6

Nice build. But 120# injectors? For your build and turbo I would have expected 42.5# up to 60# injectors. Are you on any of the Turbo Buick forums or GSCA? I really have got to get to work on my 87 GN street car. I've been doing a resto-mod for the past 4+ years. It's close to running, it just won't be pretty. John
  15. No one favorite amp, but Linear Power for me. I do have a soft spot for 5002's.

Linear Power & Blues Car Audio

I didn't get to see or listen to the car that beat me, but Todd Crowder did say it was a good sounding car. I can't remember what team shirts they had on. So I've got to come up with a few more points. A new sub stage and few tweaks, but nothing radical like rebuilding. The big deal is that SQ judging is very different from SPL. There is no meter to spit out a number. Each judge is different, so nothing is concrete. The judge(s) at Scrapin' scored Rich's system completely different from others have a other shows he has gone to. But you can see that across all the shows he has done with different judges. The judge(s) should be very consistant, which IMO is what you should see. jimmy2345 - Actually, a lot of the top USACi systems also compete in ISACA. A fellow GN owner, John Sketoe (sp?) does both and wins/places at finals at each. As Rich said, not too many IASCA shows around us. I even looked for a show while I was on vacation over the 4th weekend, but none were to be found in the Cincy area. Sir-Lance - You really need to hear the 8's before thinking 10's as mid-bass. Overall, a good time was had by all. Congrats to all our team. Good show, some nice rides, some nice systems and taking home a few trophies, what else could you ask for? The exception would be the heat (heat index was around 110!!!) and attempting to rebuild the A/C clutch in TJ's truck in the O'Reilly's parking lot, then just replacing the A/C compressor totally. That made a long, hot day that much longer and hotter, but gave the judge a cool truck to listen to the next day.

    History of Blues Loudspeakers?

I've seen your work, nice job on all the amps I've seen redone. Keep up the good work. Got my new 6.5's installed over the weekend (been waiting a loooonnngggg time), replacing my old Blues 6.5's. Can't listen to them yet since I also took my A-pillars out to be glassed for the tweeter mounts. Waiting on big red to get them finished.

Liquid Deadener On Plastic door panels?

x2 on the doors. My door panels are super tight with a layer of deadener and a layer of ensolite. But, no rattles at all.

    Active Front Stage Build

Tuned in to see how you mod the door for an 8. I just could not bring myself to cut the door up of my 05 Chevy 2500HD CC to fit the Hybrid L8's that I haven't used. Not that the L8's are needed since going to the new Blues 6 1/2.

    Blues Production Sub's. . . . . . . Remember

He answers to another redhead. I have the plans drawn up (the port will need to be modified) and have the bracket that will be used to mount it. It's just a matter of having some place to do the cutting/building. My table saw took a dump when I was building my small shop, so I'm without.

    Blues Production Sub's. . . . . . . Remember

And that's EXACTLY the reason why I hesitate to put the dual tri-so back in the GN. Replacement drivers would be really tough to get. Besides, the dual tri-so lives a pretty good life in the home theater. No heat or cold extremes, no one pounding on it all the time with a modified 5002 trying to drive the 8's through the back of the 10. Plus the box will not fit unless I take the trunk torsion bars out. Been there, done that, major PITA to get back right. Though I'm pretty sure Rich would give up enough drivers for me to do a new dual tri-so in the GN. Do a nice trick box with a plexi front, shiney paint on the interior and led back lighting. Though I would really hate to build something that Blues cannot offer with the new product line. But FIRST, I have to get the Iso-10 in the truck. And it looks like I may not get started until I get back from Buick Nationals next month. Can someone say, no room in my shop? Too full of Buick stuff. I figure if I can get Mike or Jimmy for a couple of days, we could knock the box out, have it tuned and ready to be upholstered or painted. I would like to have it done by Scrapin' the Coast.

Talk to Mike, he's the one with the crazy idea (like you) of building a tri-so wall. Get a camper shell/snugtop for your truck and a good case of metal mites. Maybe TJ should do that instead of all those 15's he's planning on.
