Presents are stupid. The kids get some of course, but outside of that fuck it. Of course I guess I buy Christmas dinner which usually tips out over $1000. That hurts, but at the same time I like doing it for everyone. $1000 at a Chinese restaurant? Must be big family. I might be the only other one that knows where that comes from. I figured haha.

I like the holiday since everyone is together, but I seriously dislike presents. I feel guilty and I'm never enthusiastic about anything so people think I'm disappointed or ungrateful. I mean you could give me keys to a Ferrari and at best I'd have a fake smile uttering "sweet," even though I'd be pretty fucking excited about that. Pretty much why I like Thanksgiving over Christmas.

Not really. As a mechanic, I get certain benefits from my job that others don't. Same with any career path we choose. As a chemist, you will also reap benefits outside the norm. I don't hold that against anyone. When I lived in SoCal we used to drag race out in the valley. There were several cops involved, as car owners. They would block off streets, and even use their radar guns to clock our trap speeds. It was cool. But of course they do things that don't benefit me as well, and it would be hypocritical for me to be negative about that. I don't mean that. I mean busting someone's ass over something petty then later that night off duty putting people's lives in danger by driving beyond drunk--shit that would put me in jail.

I should be clear I don't want to be that person that dislikes cops, and I've definitely dealt with a few that were real cool because they practiced common sense

I don't want to be prejudice towards cops because I know there's got to be good cops out there, but the majority of my encounters with them off duty has shown them to be of the greatest hypocrites, and that only makes it harder for me to respect them.

I don't think that guy wanted to be anything but be left alone--regardless of whatever he was doing that was wrong. I don't think he thought I'm gonna be argumentative towards these cops and then I'll be in the media spot light. What you're describing sounds like the by product of the people in the community afterwards--not the guy himself.

That's still pretty fucked to get you to order the stuff then he just changes his mind.

I have thought about trying to make my own whiskey... but I don't have the patience to sit around and wait for 8 or 9 years to try it. You don't need 8 or 9 years for a small batch. A 5 L barrel ages whiskey much faster than a 55 gal barrel due to the surface area to whiskey ratio. In that case couldn't you age it in reservoirs designed like batteries with "plates"?

What did I miss about SQ lol? In their black friday thread they basically said you're SOL if you order from them and the package is missing from your doorstep because you live in the hood.

When I did my Dyno training in 97 I spent a couple days in Pheonix in August. It was over 120F... Fuck that shit, at least in that kind of snow you have the perfect cooler for your beer right outside your window. Once you get acclimated it's not too bad. Last week we used some liquid nitrogen to "cool" some beer, ended up freezing everything and having to go buy more beer. Of course liquid nitrogen is -320 Fahrenheit or better...Heat travels to colder temps VIA "heat removal" the colder the temp the more heat will be removed in time..Your beer did not stand a chance..Just a -130 degrees or so from absolute zero.. SSH is studying to be a chemist... he understands very well. Speaking of that for one of my majors (biochem) they require a senior thesis project, and I've been doing some computational work over the last six months for a research group (I'm a junior). Found out yesterday I have enough data already for a senior thesis!

It was escaping from the cooler really fast so we thought it wasn't freezing much, you could touch the glass and it was barely cold, but we were wrong!
