I feel like I read somewhere about the barrel with the 308 lasting 3000 - 4000 rounds? Which sounds nice in comparison to some of the others people were bitching about not lasting very long.

That is a fantastic rifle to start with especially since you are a tinker nut. Everything can be upgraded and with a .308 bolt you can swap into something like a 6.5CM and have a laser beam. They are all the rage. It will take a LONG time to shoot out a .308 bbl though. I checked out some more shops today, and pretty set on it now. After glass, it seems a decent stock, and possibly trigger upgrade can make it pretty trick without burning the wallet too much. Which is perfect because I don't mind spending more money if it's spread over time.

Sean, what level is your warlock in WoW? Server? You get that stamina trinket you were after? I agree that the helmet piece looks gay, but the stats are so worth it.

<--Really wanted to say: "Steers & Queers," in that Loudest F350 thread, but didn't want to throw it off-topic, and piss off all the non-ihop'ers. Bustin' balls for the lulz.

Fort Lowell & Country Club. Not exactly close to either of us. If your in Tucson, and looking for another well run shop, check out The Armory On Pima. They sell new tactical-ish rifles and pistols. It's where we got our HK 9mm, xdm 9mm, xd 40/357sig, m&p15-22, and the sig 556.

You speak as if I'm spending $1000 on a rifle, and $250 on glass, which I would see as odd as well, but I'd be spending a little less then half the cost of the rifle it's self. I work for an optics company. My gut says spend 80% on the optics. Rifles generically are simple to make in comparison and have cheap contents. Just seems backwards to me. I'd also expect that in your category used is really the only option. Should be plenty of people upgrading out of the price class you are in I'm happy to buy used, but unfortunately people in AZ seem to think their old POS rifle is worth a lot. I went to a gun show today, total waste of time. Visited the branch store Sportsman's Warehouse. All new, cheapest thing they had that I figure was decent was a Remington 700 adl, and I guess the sps replaced the adl version. adl version was $430 new with their scope, so that seems like I'd be better off spending a little more for the better version of the 700 model, and not pay anything towards their super cheap scope. I'm going to another gun shop tomorrow morning that carries tons of new and used rifles, so hopefully they'll have something decent. Come down and visit the shop down here bro. I know its a small hike for you but the guys who operate my local gun shop are damn good and can give amazing advice. They don't stock a shit ton of rifles as they are primarily a hand gun shop, but what they do stock is pretty good shit. The ones down here always are. I have never gotten anything but a 'swap meet' vibe from them. J I'm going to try Murphy's today. They have TONs of used rifles.

I really disliked the gun show too, such a bad atmosphere.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Let me make this simple: I want to shoot long range, and I understand that the further you shoot, the scope becomes more detrimental. However, my uncle has that $200 Leupold, and it's worked for him with stuff in the 400 yard range, which I think is a good start. So yeah maybe it's not perfect, but considering I may buy the rifle & scope, do it for six months, and get bored, I don't want to dump a TON of money into it yet. A TON of money I simply just don't have, but perhaps down the road if I enjoy it enough, then I could acquire the funds through various methods such as: prostitution, BJs, and hackjob stereo installs. I don't see what's wrong in getting a "cheap" scope until I really know if this is something I want to really get into. If I said I was going to buy a $20 scope then I would fully agree with you, and perhaps to you a $200 scope is, but for now I will make due with what I can afford, and in the case that I continue to do it, I'll upgrade the glass.

That's nuts. Have you noticed any increase in road noise from it? If not, I bet it's pretty sweet.

    Welcome to the IHoP

I'm leaning towards a Remington 700 sps in 308. From everything I read it seems like something that's easily upgradeable in the future if I decide to do so, and I wouldn't be taking a hit by having to sell it, and getting something else. My uncle has a Leupold 3x9 rifleman, said he got it for $220, and works well. As I said earlier about shooting 250+ yards, I'll actually be going for a lot further. Pulled out his range finder on some shit, so I had a better gauge. So $450-600 on the rifle, $220 on the glass. Little more then what I originally wanted to spend, but down the road if I get more into it, I'll have headroom for upgrades. Fifteen minute drive, and twenty minute hike with all the shit will put me "in the middle of nowhere," so to speak.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Some fucker was driving drunk, running from cops, something in my grandparents old neighborhood. If only he knew their mailbox post was a steel tube filled with concrete ahead of time... Car got wrapped. After they pulled him out, and the car with a winch or what ever, they asked if we wanted to file an insurance claim for damage done, what damage? Didn't do shit to the mailbox. Epic win.

What's a rough idea on cost of used Remington / winchester 308? Going to local shops, but want to know what to expect.
