I have the option of a crossover on my deck, where should I xover for my subs? Im a noob as far as this goes.

nice job with the suede, i would have had creases everywhere.

I built 2 boxes lately and I will be doing a 3rd soon, and I love buying tools so I "need" a router. I dont want to spend an arm and a leg, but I will spend what is required to have a decent setup(not harbor freight). I want to be able to do speaker hole cut outs with it, round the edges of the box and ports, and anything else that is usefull. Im not sure what bits I would need either, I was thinking 3 one to make cut outs, one for rounded edges, and one to flush mount on a double baffle. Also I think I need the jasper circle jig unless there is a better/cheaper alternative.

i would go with 1.80-2.0 around 30'' of port I agree 100% mine are in 2.0 with 30" of port and tuned to 33hz on a 1500d and I love them, they get low and sound awesome everywhere else.

I really want to see some daylight pics also. I can see why you were so insistant on having the psp's now they look perfect!

nice work, I like this build. Cant wait to see the finish product and the trunk flex!
-
but really, thats some nice results. I need to find a TL in my area so I can see what my 8s do.
-
nice thats a real good guide, more manufactures should give recommendation like this. Especially for a entry level speaker where inexperienced users will likely need the help.
-
yea something aint right, my 2 handle a 1500d at .5 ohm with out an issue.

I did it because my headliner moves enough to hit the metal. I didnt want to have to do any sort of bracing on the roof or headliner so I wanted to try this first. It actually sounds so much better now. Since you bring up mlv what excatly is its function, and how should it be applied? Also does it look like I did a decent job or should I add more in certain areas?

so would my 2 sound better in 1.8ft^3 than they do in 2.0ft^3? Im just wondering because I still havent started on my final box yet and I want to get everything I can out of them. I am still very impressed with them in the 2.0ft^3 box I currently have them in.

I still have the same flex now that i put a bunch of raam mat on the roof, but at least it sounds better. Thats nice jacob.

box looks good, need some daylight pics! and vids!

Im a little more than half way done with the sound deadening now. I have the roof, both front doors, rear cab wall, and the floor up to the back of the seats. I also reinstalled the interior minus the back seats and had a friend(rgncjn) help set the eq and amps since he has a better ear than I do. I am very happy with everything so far, the 8's are way better sounding than anything I have ever owned. Also the hertz are really clear and loud to boot. I have one issue though I have a static type noise coming from my door speakers while the volume on the deck is at higher levels but no music is playing(ie changing sources). What is the likely cause of this? Here is a few pics from today, these will probably be it for a while since Im on call for the next 2 weeks.

Nice looking build. What are you going to do paint or cover in carpet or vinyl?
-
haha yea that has been fixed. The only reason I did that was because my stock speakers were blown and I had no way to make baffles. They are now mounted solidly to mdf rings in with 6 raam btx2 tiles per door and a bunch of ensolite(well the drivers door until tommorow). They sound so much better in the drivers door now, just have to fix the rattles on the door panel itself now.

I noticed the clipping in the vid too, but its I couldnt hear it in the truck. So much stuff in the truck was rattling it was hard to tell what was what, and the box has a air leak too which didnt help to hear shit. I did get some stuff done today. I have a bit of the deadening done, floor from behind the seats, the back wall and c pillars, the roof, and the drivers door. I also built an amp rack mounted it to the wall and installed both amps. I had to do a run of 4ga to the 50.4 because my knukonceptz distribution block is a pos and broke. I wanted to check out the 50.4 so I wired it up to just the drivers door and listened to that for a bit, and I am very happy with that. heres a pic with some of it done, before the ensolite and all the wiring. Hopefully I can finish all the sound deadener and wiring tommorow so I can finish up that box soon.

they will be going under the back seats. the box they are in was a test box, I wanted to make sure everything is perfect before I spend all that time on a glass box and find out it sounds like shit.

glad to hear its working like it should!!!

Im not 100% sure if my methods are right but I have been told that if you want to run multiple ports you divide your box volume by the number of ports. By using that method and the12volts calculation your box comes out tuned to 52hz. If Im doing that right and your box is really 52hz that could make it sound shitty on music.
-
I calculated that box, and your net volume is actually 1.46 after sub and port displacement are subtracted. Im not sure what you used to calculate you tuning.
-
Is that the net volume of your box?

I know I havent updated in a while, but here is what has gone on lately. No progress on the final box. I built 2 test boxes to see how they sound in different enclosures. I also have everything in now and may start sound deading this afternoon. I can say that I am very happy with my choice on subs and amp, Sundown FTW!!! 1st test box, 1.0 cubes tuned at about 38 hz with 15 sq inches of port. it was pretty loud, but had some wierd sounds and was very "peaky". it was wired for 2 ohm in this vid with the gain maxed out. 2nd test box, 2.03 cubes tuned to 33hz with 30 sq inches of port. It is a good bit louder and has a much cleaner sound. Not "peaky" and no odd sounds. This is what I am going to model the final box after. In this vid the amp is wired at .5ohm and im guessing 70% or so. I checked voltage and it drops to 12.2 on "late night tip" and I havent got around to doing the big 3 yet. let me know what you guys think of my progress.

Haha I found that out with my ipod on shuffle that song came on and they hit the limits instantly, they handle it much better now in the new box. Awesome subs and amp, thank you very much Jacob.

I have the second test box built and installed. This go round I spent a little more time sealing everything and calculating the box specs. I came out with 2.03 ft^3 net tuned to 33hz with 30 sq inches of slot port. All I can say is WOW what a difference! They are definetly louder and sound so much better, before I had tested them on some song that really messed with them(Young Jeezy - And then what, Brooks and Dunn - Hillbilly Deluxe, and a few metal songs). Now on the same songs I get nothing but clean bass, I am impressed that they can have as much output as they do and still sound so clean. I am definetly a proud Sundown owner and have already been showing people around town what they can do. I had a buddy get in my truck and say "thats some cute little speakers you got there" I didnt say anything, I just put on Young Jeezy - Airforces. He then asked where to get one so he can replace his 2 JL 12s Haha. I uploaded another video just for shitznjiggles.
