So, it seems like there was a Retro Rally here in town on September 13-14. Don;t know how the fuck I missed that. And then, last weekend, there was something like an AutoX event. But none of my friends who are into cars knew about it. MF'er. Missed 2 events where I could race because there was not enough exposure :|

Miata questions again... I need to work under the car to fix the rust and I've thought about tipping the car over like this: I imagine that if I drain all fluids and remove the battery it should be safe

Phew, serious work on the SPL meter going on. SRS BSNS

Some pics of the final tablet install look: Still completely stock Nexus 7, I never shut if off, it just sleeps, battery never goes under 70% unless I forget to hit pause when I turn off the car. Ignition on and it's instantly on The car was not low enough so I added a lip:

Here we go, starting the lightweight, simple install in the Miata First off some pictures of the car, keep in mind I was always too busy enjoying driving it to do anything else, like cleaning it Just after a wash, comparing it with a friend's Z3. Mock-up of the 7" tablet. Fits great in the scene Target for the entire system is under 30 lbs. That includes wiring, fiberglass, minimal deadening, speakers, amp, tablet and miniDSP.

Except for Bluetooth and Android app, NOTHING until next week.

Not running rich, bud. I see a little oil consumption. The fluffy material on the second plug, it is hard to tell how it is situated on the plug. If you see it on one side of the side electrode you have a valve stem seal problem. If it encapsulated the plug is it most likely rings. It does use up a bit of oil. Up-close pictures of each plug, looks to me like #2 is only one one side of the plug.

Plug pics: I did not write down which is which but I suspect the lightest colored one is #4 since that usually runs hotter in a Miata due to coolant routing.

Time for a wideband Santa is bringing me a Megasquirt. Might just bundle it with a wideband.

You need to check the plugs. Pull them, take a pic, and post them. I've recently changed them (no clue on the age) and they are all in the garage. Pics coming as soon as I get home

Nice pictures Matt

Have fun, Neal ! ! !

Ok you gas-engine drivers...I suspect the Miata runs way too rich: black soot on the rear bumper and at WOT I can see something which looks like a mist in the rearview mirror, at night. Bad O2 sensor? Or bad injectors?

Video looks old but if it's the same car as featured on speedhunters, it now has a british V8, more power, much more torque than the Ferrari V8.
-
Looks like a Detroit Diesel.
-
Your kick install is no match for mine...I used flower pots as enclosures.

How the heck do they manage 38mpg? It's a damn truck with a 3.0 diesel, it's heavy, it's not aerodynamic. I looked at the 05-08 Grand Cherokee, similar engine but it won't go over 27mpg bone-stock. I bet it's a tad lighter than the Ram 1500. The cherokee doesnt even get 27mpg. Yeah, the WK CRD is EPA rated 23 mpg highway. There are people of there getting 27 mpg with a tune.

I wonder how I could figure out the CAN controls VW/Audi uses to control the vanes on their turbos.... It would save me at least $100, since I wouldn't have to replace the vane motor controller with a Mercedes one, which uses a PWM signal.
