Nope, I heard from an insider who was at the meeting where the decision was announced. It was supposed to be kept quiet, but Rockford leaked the story to look as though they dropped BBY.

Yeah, when I worked there it was hard to sell the bottom barrel garbage, even after adding up the cost of a decent stereo there was always sticker shock, it was always hard to sell them on financing too and even when they would go for it not a lot of them would qualify and if they did it was only for like $500 so what you could get them set up with would be very limited.

I loved it, I did what I enjoy and made some money doing it. It's hard to work so hard on other peoples stuff, doing custom fabrication and such, then have them come back a few days later saying "I turned up the gain knob cause it made my bass louder, played half a song, and the bass went away." That reminds me of a story, when I worked at Best Buy, I got into an argument with some kid because he was looking at some mono amp and kept asking me how many watts it made in 2 ohm stereo, he ended up going to the manager to complain that I didn't know anything about car audio, manager tried to explain it to him, in the end he was pissed, said we were stupid and we lost the sale. Ignorance is a big part of any work, but when it's something you enjoy and have a passion for it can get a little personal and demoralize you thoughts on what you do. That's pretty well dramatized but you get the idea.

Since you want to run a store, I'd concentrate on Business and/or entrepreneurial management. Get an SA or SSA in that type of field. It's good schooling to have and if you were to go to Best Buy and try to manage the car audio dept. that would look a lot better than a electronics (or the like) degree. I have a friend thats a corporate car audio schlub at best buy, he makes a good living, but he spent a lot of years in the store selling/managing/installing.

It was supposed to be a hush hush deal, but through the grape vine I hear Rockford may be in some financial problems.

Isn't the prices on them a special for pre order? I'd rather pay less now than more later. Some people I know think I'm an idiot for wanting 8's in my suburban, I'm hearing everything from 8's won't sound good in a Suburban because theres too much cabin space to 8's can't go low like a 15" Besides, if I spend the money now I'll be that much less likely to decide on cheaping out and using some of the old equipment sitting in my basement the last 8-10 years.

Synthetic Oils & Changing Intervals
shakes replied to Penguin4x4's topic in Automotive and Performance
Oil has come a long way since it became standard operating procedure to change every 3000 miles. Oil will continue to lubricate, it's the additives that begin to break down. If you do mostly highway driving and the car doesn't idle much I wouldn't hesitate to change it every 10k miles. I usually run my oil 5-6k miles depending on conditions, obviously more frequently in the winter because of the increased idling and richening of the fuel mixture in colder weather. In short, 10,000 miles is a long time to go between changes on an old "looser" motor with dino oil, but a more sophisticated, newer motor I personally wouldn't be too bothered by it. Take it for what it's worth, but I'll tell you right now I'm the proprietor of a "stealership". -
lol i did the other day. it was by far the funniest stupidist thing ive ever seen...picture this 87 escort.... walled(kinda) 4 die hard batterieson the floor in the backseat....6 12inch superblues.....6 performance teknique 1500s plywood covering the air holes,,,,not ports air holes. the car had a 600$ 2 way alarm installd at a local shop by me and all the installers just walking out of the back shakin theyre heads and walkin back to the shop. the rear windows were spray paint like a chrome and je had a disco ball hanging were the dome light is. he had speaker wire and some other kind of cable to connect the batterys together. it was ghetto as hell and t answer the question....hell no it didnt sound good Well that's a pretty bad example as to the amps being junk, not that I disagree, but don't knock Superblues, they'll surprise you. Richard Clark used to defend the hell out of them back in the day.

Look into an SSA through one of the box builders for the discount on the box, just a thought.

Not exactly impressive camera work but it's a beautiful sight to see 5 old school ultra rare Sony amps.

The 63 Split Window Bickel Chassis car is when we took it to Black Sunday in St. Louis @ Gateway. The other pics are from US 41 outside of Chi Town. Nothing but street racing going on at the track there! I wish there were more tracks close by where I live but I have to tow my pile 3 1/2 hours south to Cedar Falls or 3 1/2 hours north to Brainerd. If my car met the requirements to run with Midwest Superstock Mafia I'd probably be more inclined to travel more but it's a lot of work, time and money to make $50 bracket racing a 12 second car. I like to go spectate at Byron every now and then if a friend is going to take their car out there but that's close to 6 hours from me. Minnesota sucks, it's cold, taxes are high, we have no street racing scene, no car audio scene. If my business goes under and I lose my house I'm definitely moving.

What tracks were the racing pics taken at?

Properly Powering Your Stereo

Not set in stone yet, but I'm planning on 4 Sundown SA-8's powered by an MB Quart DSC-2000.1, or a similarly powered Hifonics. I'm still undecided on a head unit, speakers and 4 channel amp at the moment, just reading and learning before I make a final decision although I'm pretty much sold on the SA-8's, everything else is still up in the air. I'll definitely be running a volt meter. Luckily for me I have a few months still because I'm not about to stand out in my driveway doing all this work when it's 5 degrees outside. If I search my garage long enough I can probably find enough wiring to throw my old school Shocker II in the truck for the time being, I just have to stop being so lazy. -
Properly Powering Your Stereo

Hi, I'm sort of new to this, I searched the topic but didn't find what I was looking for so please be patient. I've been away from car audio for 7 or so years, a lot has changed and I would like to learn. I'm in the infancy of planning my stereo, I'm planning on running ~1500-2000watts RMS, the vehicle in question is a 1994 3/4 ton Suburban with a 454, 105 amp (I believe) alternator. I definitely plan to upgrade the battery and my ground and use 0 gauge wiring, what exactly do I look for in a battery and at my power levels would it be wise to run a second battery? Furthermore, how exactly does one wire a second battery? Should I upgrade my alternator as well? Or if it was between one or the other what would you do? Sorry if these questions sound stupid but I have to ask and know instead of possibly making a costly mistake. -
Go to the Sundown section, I believe they're running a deal on SAZ1000D's at the moment.

Oh? -
I remember about 10 years ago that name showed up seemingly out of no where, all over eBay, pawn shops, flea markets. It seems as though they disappeared as fast as they came. If history is any indicator, I'd stay away.

No you can't. You can hear harmonics of what is being excited by the sub, but definitely not 16Hz. You seem to (understandably) ride this guy pretty hard. What happened to that Minnesota nice I see advertised? -
It's kind of hard to make a purchase, especially if it's going to be at least a few hundred dollars off of someones opinion. Not to say most people are stupid but I've been around a lot of "experts" and a lot of forums involving a lot of topics and it makes me wonder how some people manage to dress themselves in the morning. Does anybody actually have something to say about this based on fact? I'd really like to see the whole line of Maxxsonics monoblocks opened up and sitting side by side. I'd have to imagine the build quality is the same across the board, but I'd have to assume the main difference between similarly advertised wattages is just that, the advertised wattage.
-
Unlike some others I'm not one to say what a man can or can't do with his vehicle and money. I've never ran more than 1200 watts in a daily. Honestly, I was completely satisfied with many stereos with 300 watts or less. Personally I don't think I'd really ever have a need for much more than 2000 watts should I desire that much, but it's just because of the cost of upgrading to multiple batteries, expensive alternators, etc.

Hey whats up, where about do you live in Minnesota? I live in the eastern suburbs.
