where to find amp screws
Third Eye Vision posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I just picked up an amp off a buddy of mine, and 2 of the allen head screws to tighten down the speaker wires are stripped. Was just wondering if any of you knew where to pick those up at individually? I'd rather get phillips head screws to replace them so I don't have to hunt down an allen set everytime I need to adjust something. Thanks -

where to find amp screws
Third Eye Vision replied to Third Eye Vision's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
It's the eclipse amp in my sig, they are that style of screw. My sundown amp has phillips heads and I'd like to find some phillips ones to put in there. -
was it a premade enclosure or did you have it custom made? measure twice, buy once brotha.

i know its been a few months since the last past, bu ti have a question. ive been looking at some loc's and noticed that a lot of them state they are only good up to 60 or 80 watts per channel. could that be why you arent getting the full wattage through it? im in the market for one and was wondering they they are all low numbers like that.

head unit question
Third Eye Vision replied to Third Eye Vision's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
well like i was saying i plan on keeping the stock speakers for now, so im assuming the stock deck has preset crossover points for all the stock speakers. it gives me a basic eq adjustment of +/- 6 for low, mid, high. and the stereo sounds fine, i just want to install my sub for more bass. it already sounds better than my last install ever could have without hacking up the interior to add tweeters. i had 6x7s in the doors and 6 1/2s in the rear deck and no amp powering them. so i had no mid bass, and my legs were blocking the speakers so there wasnt much clarity on the highs. have any of you guys ran a LOC and had success with it? I just don't want to underpower my sub anymore than it already is. its a 1000w sub on a 600w amp. -
head unit question
Third Eye Vision posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I havn't posted here in awhile since I was comfortable enough with the stereo setup I had in my Altima. But I just bought a new car and need some advice on whether or not I should keep the stock deck and run a LOC or if I should replace it with an aftermarket deck. A little background on the vehicle, 2007 Chrysler 300 with a sound package that gives me 8 speakers and an amplifier to run them. Three 3.5s on the dash, 2 6x9s in the front doors, 2 6x9s on the rear deck, an infinite baffle 8 inch subwoofer housed in the rear deck and a 368w amplifier. I kept the amplifier(sae100d) and subwoofer(z15) from my previous install, so they will handle the low bass. I don't plan on changing the speakers anytime soon, other than disconnecting the 8" sub, so my question is would it make more sense to just run an LOC for the sub/amp? My only complaint with the stock deck is not having a usb port for ipod integration, but its not total disappointment as it has an AUX jack. I was pretty sold on the idea of the LOC, but I saw a few posts on here of people complaining that they felt the subwoofer amplifier wasnt getting enough power to it or something along those lines. So I started looking on crutchfield for decks, but couldnt find any that have low, mid and high crossovers built in, just low and high. Maybe I misunderstood about the LOC deal, so if anyone can shed some light I'd appreciate it. And if I did misunderstand, point me in the direction of a quality LOC that will handle the job. Thanks in advance. -

And I forgot to include that I only plan on using the LOC for the subwoofer amplifier, I'm going to continue to use the built in amp to run the stock interior speakers. So I don't need like the 3sixty or anything crazy like that. -

Current draw question

That's the kicker i know you didnt have a chance to see taht im only running a 600w amp and that my stock electrical should be able to handle that, but your post with the rolling eyes made it seem like you didnt think a cap was worth anything and that they dont do what they are made to do. i know some people think that they can throw a 2000w amp in their trunk as long as they got a cap and i agree that that isnt waht they are designed to do. -
Current draw question

I'm wondering why when I changed from 300w @ 4 ohms on my amp, to 600w @ 2 ohms I havn't noticed an increase in current draw. I just picked up a couple Z15s off a seller on here that listed them as DVC4 ohm, and I'm only running one of them due to lack of power/trunk space. I have it wired up to my sae1000d in parallel to get a 2 ohm load. I just pulled a 2 12s out that were wired @ a 4 ohm load on the amp, so I'm going from the 300w @ 4ohm to 600w @ 2ohm. I didn't adjust the gain because the voltage is the same at about 35 volts. But since I'm doubling the amount of wattage being used, shouldnt it be pulling 2 times as much current? The output is about the same as the 2 12's, since the sub isn't broken in yet, and I'm going from 24" of cone area to 15". But I definitely expected to see my headlights start to dim since I'm on stock electrical with only a cap added to the circuit. Is it just because 35 volts is 35 volts regardless of the ohm load, or am I missing something? -

yeah no need to talk shit or anything, i got it as a gift and im sure im not worse off by running it. im aware it isnt a magical accessory that gives me the power of a spare battery, but from what i understand it stores a small charge that helps during demanding notes. and since my car puts out around 600 watts and my amp uses 600 watts, im guessing its doing what its designed to do. -

yeah i double checked on 12 volt b4 i hooked them up and i did pos to pos, neg to neg. i have an 80 amp alternator with a autozone duralast gold battery, nothin audio specific, and a 2 farad cap. when i did the 80 x 14.4 and got 1152w, i divided that in half to account for a/c and all that jazz and figured id have roughly 570w reserve for my audio stuff. in the morning ill pull the sub back out and double check the wiring and run my dmm on the amp again. last time i did it, it was at night so i had my buddy watch the dmm in the backseat while i adjusted the gain knob, maybe he read 25 instead 35. thanks for the advice impious -

i posted this in the wrong section, can you guys move it to amplifer/electrical for me? -
Upgraded casing and components inside and the ability to strap. my SAE1000D booklet says they can be strapped to make 1800w @ 2 ohms.
-
why dont you just buy one of the 15's and run that? then the box size wouldnt be an issue
-
that btl looks badass, i always see the 15 and 18s so the magnet doesnt look as mean.
-
You would have to ask Jacob, the quote was copied and pasted from an email I got when I asked sundowns authorized repairman about the differences between the two amps that I listed.

yeah dude thats a badass ride, and that sundown sub looks incredibly beefy
