I believe I will be running this amp at 1ohm to my dual 2 ohm sub. Will this sub handle what is said to be 1500w RMS from the SAZ (which I have heard is under rated)? I am not planning to pin the gain or anything, I just do not want to blow the sub.

Here are some photos: Picasa Web Albums - rodfriesen.com - Fi BL 15 The guy built the box to 4.92ft3 and tuned it to 34hz. He also neatly tucked the amps in those two little compartments. I am ordering a new sundown as this amp CANNOT handle it!

Fired the sub and the port towards the trunk. One thing that was strange was that when we measured the terminals, they said 5 ohms...

Just an update: I LOVE MY BL 15! We did a ported box to 4.96 cubic feet tuned to 34hz. I am way underpowering it right now while I wait for my 1ohm stable comes but it pounds. I have to control the trunk ratlle. THANKS AGAIN TO THE GROUP AT Fi, I WOULD RECOMMEND THEIR SUBS IN A HEARTBEAT!

4ohm stable mono block amp with subsonic filter
BigBadRod replied to BigBadRod's topic in Fi Technical
Just so I am clear, 1 ohm stable mono amp will still be okay putting it to my dual 2 ohm 15BL? I am still reading on all these ohm choppings and I believe i am figuring it out. Is this an amp, at 1ohm with a subsonic filter that will work: SSA Shop - Sundown Audio SAZ-1000D amplifier That seems like an awesome price for an amp of that power. -
4ohm stable mono block amp with subsonic filter
BigBadRod replied to BigBadRod's topic in Fi Technical
The sub that I purchased was a dual two ohm 15 BL. I am not sure how all this ohm'age' works, but my understanding was that for the best results I needed a amp running at 1 X 1000w RMS at 4ohms. If you are telling me that the BL15 dual 2 ohm will run at 1 ohm I am curious how... -
Can anyone recommend one? I purchased a dual 2 ohm Fi BL 15 and my current amp does not have a subsonic filter (which the install guy says will be needed to best tune the system). Some of the amps on the SSA website don't tell me what load they are stable at in Mono.

The numbers recommended on the BL 15 page for enclosure etc... are those numbers factoring in the displacement of the driver? If not, what is the displacement of the BL 15 fully loaded? I am tuning to 34hz
-
So for 1 BL 15 fully loaded running 900 watts RMS in the trunk of my 300c tuned to 34-35hz I am going hear and feel the bass for Young Jeezy as well as say Audioslave? My dads Rolling Stones will still sound decent? 33hz was going to be number all along and then I went to 40hz with the shops suggestion and now I am back to 34hz. My car goes in tomorrow. I am going to have him resin the inside of the enclosure as well.

I have a 15 BL Fully Loaded. I think they are worried that it will be too low for the type of music I listed to. As an example I currently have playing in my car The Game - Big Money which is great. I just don't want these guys to be right, I tune it to 35 hz and miss a bunch of bass from the songs I listen to. At this point, I will take your words for it and have him build it tuned to 35hz.

I took my woofer to my install bay today and they were shocked I wanted to tune to 33hz. They felt that was way too low. Now, I listen to all types of music, pop, #1 hits, old school rock etc... but mostly Sirius hio channels and some Ipod songs (JayZ etc...) I just want to be sure this box is tuned to where I need it to be. He wants to build it to 4 cubic ft and tune it to 38 - 40hz but I see almost everyone on here tuned lower. Thoughts?
-
Thats my plan, build a box with sub on the drivers side facing back and the port on the passenger side going up through the rear deck (should it actually go up through the deck or vent upwards towards the deck?) I was going to tune it to 35 hz and have the dd take it down to 34, 33, 32 or 31 (I assume the dd can't change it more than that, likely only 1 or 2mhz)
-
Thanks bigrank, I understand the trial and error, its just when you are getting custom built boxes you really only have one kick at the can, so I was hoping maybe someone had some experience with firing the port up into the rear window versus back with the sub. Question about being tuned lower, does that mean you were aiming for 33 and because of the displacement you went to 31 say?
-
I have had this exact same problem before and it was a faulty set of RCA's, I hope thats all your is...

If I have a traditional trunk (large 300c trunk) and I fire the sub towards the back but fire the port up on the passenger side of the car, does the direction of the port make any difference, up, back side? I assume it would a little if there was resistance from say a seatback or side trim but up into the rear window or towards the empty trunk in the back, will there be much of a difference in the cabin as far as sound etc... Just got my 15 BL today ($105 extra for DELIVERY WTF?!) and can't wait to get it in... I am going to tune it to 33 or 34 hz PS: How reliable is the ported box calculator at reaudio?
