Subs back port back. Go to 12volt.com for box/port calculations.

Is that the biggest you can build your box. If you want your sub to be in a 4cuft box , you will have to make it like 5cuft because your slotport is going to take up about 1cuft or so of air space. Google slotported box ( images ) and look at some pics to get an idea of what you need to be doing. Then go to 12volt.com and go to box/port calculator. Play with all the #s you can think of. You can use the sqaure box calculator to figure out how much air space the slotport is going to take up and add it to the box you have. Just remember to put the wood thickness in. It calculats outside measurements....

Well what i mean is I see alot of big boxes usually they are 5+ cuft and instead of using a slotport it looks like a big hole. Picture a box front and above the subs is a hole that looks like 28" wide by 6" tall and goes into the box like 5". Basiclly I guess just a huge wide short port. I dont know if its for burps or will work for every day use? I just am interested in trying something different. I got it they can do a port like that cause the internal volume is so large. Thanks to 12volt I figured it out. I just played around on it for awhile. I just thought a larger port width would sound cleaner and get louder....

Hello I have a ssd12+bp running off a Alphasonic 1200da at 4ohms. Rms is 1200 at 4 ohms BUT my electrical system is stock so with around 50-70 amps at 12.5-14 volt I believe Im only getting 550-700 watts to my sub. The 12 is in a slotported box with 1.6cuft tuned to 34 htz. I built the box for 2-12 so they each have their own seperate enclosure, but I can not see another SSD 12 in the near future cuase times are tuff. My question is this- If I build another box for my 1-12 at say 2.3cuft with a slotport tuned to 32 htz, what do you guys believe the difference would be? more SPL? I really would like it to BOOM harder, louder, higher spl. Im not into SQ so if that goes down thats fine. Also Is there a difference in sound from building a box from 3/4" mdf then going to 1" mdf ? This is a pic of the box I have right now. Thanks in the future for the input and help.

Not really what I wanted to hear but it is what it is. Sounds like a project to do If I got nothing else going on. About the 2" wide port, I see alot of pics of boxes with whitch looks to be at least 4-5" wide port but not that long. Are they doing it wrong or could it be just the pics and no real scale to compare with. I know its wider then 2" though. I got a little port noise with mine when the trunk is open. Whats the deal with these I see that are like 28" wide 6" tall and only 4" long? Do they work good. I got to say I LOVE MY SSD!! Ran it at 1 ohm off that pma1200da and it was crazy loud but didnt smell to good, I blow my 60amp fuse when my amp hit 11.2 volts it had to be real dirty power but the sub took it like a CHAMP.

Can anyone give me an opinion on what a bigger box will do before I have to build one just to find out.? I also am having a problem with the port design. For a 2.3cuft box tuned to 33htz I did a port 3.5" wide by 14.5" high by 44.4" long BUT I dont have 44" to do that so can I make 2 ports at 22" long? Any help with this would be great. Thanks, Bubba

Just noticed that Johnecon2001 had the link to 12volt.com... That site saved my ass acouple of times, its great......I know your port should be over 2" wide. Thats what I maid my at and you can hear port noise. Not inside the car but when I pop the trunk you can hear it.

It calculates volume wrong so that throws off tuning, another problem I've seen with it is you can make the port to long for the box. ie you can make the port end up being 2.5" from the side wall of the box when your port is 3.5" wide, which will mess with tuning calculations. What do you guys think about the box/port calculator on the site 12volt.com ?
