I had mine installed in the upper portion, then i switched to the lower position. Not really any reason behind it other than most people dont do it -
It would definetly be quite the paperweight.

Oh I unplug my mouse on my mac all the time to swap over my other mouse. No scroll is huge pain. The only time ive had to restart was because a program wouldnt close ( crashed) The computer itself worked.
