    Sealing enclosure

some types of caulk create vapors that in a sealed enclosure can weaken the foam surround. I forgot which kind it was. use google.

    hifonics amp getting warm?

Well it is a commercial grade switching power supply, and the voltage is adjustable. normally i have it set at 13v, for normal use.

    hifonics amp getting warm?

I was just curious, but my 1610d hifonics amp gets warm at idle, its hooked up to a 14 volts 58 amp power supply, and if its not doing anything it gets warm, but if i turn the music up about a 1/3rd the way it stays cool, is it a wasted energy thing or what??

    12" spl subs for cheap??

This is for a friend of mine, he doesn't care about SQ that much, he just wants an ok sound that is extremely loud, so i'm basically looking for a cheap 12" spl subwoofer. He would like to keep it under $150 per sub. He wants it really loud, i'm talking 140db loud if possible, th cheapest sub that you guys think can hit that, he wants two 12" subs.

15 inch xcon enclosure with plexi

ya, I got the carpet because I think it looks nicer with the light and all, but I have thought about it and wondered if it would improve sound at all?? as in how some people put padding in there box's to make the sound not reflect around the inside of the box. hopefully it does help, then that would be sweet.

  15. So I am finally getting my license back april 19th after losing it in october for dumb reasons. While I have been suspended I have been uprading my subwoofer, from a 15" kove Armageddon original 1999 subwoofer, to my great 15" ssa xcon. Its only being powered by my hifonics 1610d at 1600rms at 1 ohm, its sounds good, but it distorts to easy for my tastes. I don't even think it pushed my kove to its full potential even that it did suck the roof in on my moms wagon. but anyways, I was just putting this up for some ideas and random thoughts on my soon to be stereo system. I havent heard really loud music in months. This system has been in the process of being upraded for the last year, so some parts aren't of the best quality and some are. The head unit is a kenwood excelon x991, my front speakers are polk db 4x6 powered by headunit my rear speakers are polk momo 6x9's powered by a 4x100rms crunch amp, i am using monster cable rca cables, 0 gauge power wire and the big 3, with my xcon in the rear, of my 92 buick century station wagon. I'm just looking for any ideas or tips to making this setup as good as possible (don't suggest new speakers or amps cuz I don't have the money for that i'm looking for cheap setup ideas), I do plan on upgrading my subs amp, my speakers amp, and my front speakers down the road, but that will be a long while, and I am saving up to buy a late 90's cadillac devile. So post away I do know quite a bit about car audio but this is just for conversation something to kill my boredom, with no license..

    2 farad cap

I agree, just sell it and go buy a second battery or a better alternator, caps just strain your alternator.
  17. Also i'd like to add, that this thing is gonna be great for testing various things, because the voltage is variable between 1volt and 18volts at 58amps continuous. Its very accurate to, its really easy to adjust voltage by only 0.1v at a time.
  18. I was wondering if my Hifonics Brutus BXi 1610D amp can handle 18v? and if so how will it affect its sound and output? I have a 58amp continuous output switching power supply that I just bought to power it in the house, of course i'm not expecting full power, but I was just wondering how well it will handle that voltage and if it is to high the power supply is adjustable. But let me know ok, hopefully it will be better than my 12 volt 16 amp power supply that it is on right now.
  19. I got this power supply off of surplus, I looked it up it had a msrp of $850 and I could find it new for cheapest at $350 in new condition from only one place since this thing is 10 years old, I got mine used, but it seems to be barely used, no scratches and barely a spec of dust on it. I have a multimeter hooked up and under a heavy load it only dips down 0.5v and the power supply isn't even warm. Ive been looking on ebay for a long long time waiting for a good deal on a power supply and i saw this one, I got it for $75 and so far its working great. it all looks like overkill duty parts it weighs a ton. here is a link to the power supply I bought. LH RESEARCH 18VDC @ 58 AMPS SWITCHING POWER SUPPLY - eBay (item 220539515037 end time Mar-25-10 15:56:49 PDT) Either way its only gonna power this sub for 3 weeks, and then from then on it will be used for a testing power supply only.
  20. well I have the power supply running at about 15v and it works and sounds fine, I haven't been able to turn it up since its dark outside right now, but I will let you guys know how it sounds tomorrow.
  21. I'm sure this has been talked about in the past, I just spent 20 minutes digging on Google for it, but I couldn't find any real results. I would like to know if anyone in all of history has been killed by extreme bass caused by a sub woofer. And not a heart attack from the startle of the sudden bass but being killed by the vibration alone.
  22. i was thinking of that but they don't have a uniform light i want this to be perfect because once i put this in the box i plan to never take it out.
  23. I have spent an hour on google searching trying to find a neon light controller that will flash to the music using a rca cable so the neon flashes to the music and not people talking. I have seen them before but i cannot seem to locate one now that I wan't to get one.
  24. huh, I am but what would a neon have anything to do with sound quality, it won't affect the way anything sounds. if your referring to the rca jacks, I would hook it up to the output jacks on my subs amp. so it won't affect anything.
  25. well i knew that the wattage will increase, that stuff is stated all over google, and car battery's go dead when u use them, this isn't a setup to test my stereo, this is my home theater sub woofer. I use it for hours on end, and currently I am using a 12v 16 amp power supply and ive used it for weeks now and it gets pretty damn loud for how under powered it is. so with this new power supply of a similar type it should get a lot louder than it currently does. so if you where talking about that i didnt know the wattage increases with a voltage increase i did know that, i was asking if there where any benefits besides the increased wattage...
