Help adjusting xcon amp settings???????
gadgeteer123 replied to gadgeteer123's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
there is a really tiny leak on the box? would this affect anything. the leak is small enough that I can't feel it, but If I play a 20hz sine wave I can hear it easily. So would a leak that small matter. i do plan on fixing it soon, but its not a easy fix. -
I have a ssa 15" xcon in a 4.0CF box tuned to 29hz in the back of my wagon. Its hooked up to a hifonics 1610d amp which is rated at 1600rms at 1-ohm at 14.4v. I want any advice for adjusting this so my sub stops bottoming out on deep songs like bass i love you. I have tried the sub-bass filter but if i turn it up anymore those deep songs lose the deep bass that it can hit fine without bottoming out. its those notes below 25hz that bottom it out, but the sub-bass filter only has a 12db slope and it lets to much in. So what do I do? I don't want to wreck my xcon.

Best songs for xcon demo's
gadgeteer123 replied to gadgeteer123's topic in Sound Solutions Audio (SSA®)
ya, but the show off thread is extremely long, it would take me days to go through there. At least this way I get a idea to what hits good on these subs.- 67 replies

But its only the deep notes, below the tuning of the box. that makes it bottom out. its fine to the higher notes -

From what I have heard in my car in the last day, I am just like wow, I knew it would be louder, but I had no idea. I think the reviews on the xcon are under-rated. This thing is awesome, and it pounds like no tomorrow. I don't even have it powered fully and it makes my rear hatch push outwards, and my roof flex to the point where it touches my roof rack. I couldn't even light a lighter. Its so loud. It loves the lows. -
Either do what they say, or win the lottery or just risk it, all they will do is shut off your internet, and you have to switch company's.

Ya, well i was just playing with it, you know how it is when you first hook up your new system. when I did a bass tester my head-unit shut off. I am ordering a 180 amp alternator rebuild kit on may 1st when I get paid. It Will replace my current stock alternators internals -

omg, I had a wire on backwards and now it is so much louder, It still makes my voltage drop but it hits so much harder, everything I looked at appeared to be moving even outside of the car so we know it wasn't the car that was vibrating lol I can't wait to get more power to it now. now thats its even louder the voltage goes all the way down to 10v which is kinda shocking, because this amp may not be of the best sound quality but it is super efficient. -

I just hooked it up yesterday, up to a 1600rms at 1-ohm hifonics amp, on a 105 amp stock alternator with no extra battery's. It sounds good and it seems as loud as my old sub but sounds better.. My old sub was a kove armageddon. I know it can go louder, but every time a note hits my needle dips down to 11 volts and then I hear the amp distort. I am planning on getting a extra battery and a 180 amp alternator upgrade in a month, so when I get that all done it should be super loud . Then I gotta save to get a sundown amp instead of this hifonics but the new amp won't be for a long time. -
HO alternator for buick century???
gadgeteer123 replied to gadgeteer123's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Ya I know I bought it at a garage sale for ten bucks, it was cheap, it used to be on a early 2000's scooter. It still holds a charge and I jump started a car with it a year ago. -

I have a 1992 buick century custom with a 3.3l v6 and it has a delco stock alternator, and it already has the Big 3 installed and my lights dim really badly now that I hooked up the xcon today, my last sub was 1000rms now im doing 1600rms on the amp, and my cars electrical hates it. I can here the bass distort whenever the voltage needle dips. So I was looking for a cheap upgrade since this is only gonna be my car for less than a year. I found a rebuild kit to upgrade a delco cs130 alternator to 180 amps, which the cs130 is what replaces this alternator if i go to autozone, but i'm not sure if thats whats in it now. I know its a delco but I don't know where to look for a model number, but they do look the same in every way.... -

well I will put the 55ah deep cycle that I already have in there, its 5 years old but better than nothing until I can afford a new one. -

well from what I get out of this, and the way I beat my system I might need the battery and the alternator, I will try the battery first, but I push my systems hard. My old kove subwoofer which was getting 1100rms and it was a 1050rms woofer, I would crank it all the time almost every day, and there where multiple occasions where it would be at max for 1-3 hours. so I'm not sure if the battery will hold a charge for that long. my caddy could take it, but it had a 140 amp alternator and a 1100ca battery in the front a a 55ah deep cycle in the back. -

no my alternator is not 180 amps, it is the stock 105 amp, but I wanted to upgrade it 180 amps, that kit on ebay will upgrade my 105 amp alternator to 180. I thought it wasn't bad for $99 if it really works, which it probably does. -

gadgeteer123 replied to gadgeteer123's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
ok, what kind of battery should I get, I am on a low budget, any money I come up with for this is gonna be all that I have, I will have a 150 for me to spend to myself in may, and if i can sell anything by then I will have more also. So is the alternator a bad idea or should I try the battery first and then if it still dims get the upgrade to the alternator? -

gadgeteer123 replied to gadgeteer123's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
well there is only one battery, and i'm sure its nothing special since its what the car is supposed to have stock. I'd guess between 500-800ca. I have a 55ah deep cycle but I don't think that will do much. here is a link to the re-manufacture kit on ebay, I looked it up and the cs130 is the original alternator so this kit will work on the car but would it be worth it? how well do you guys think it will work? maybe if I buy this kit and the biggest battery that I can fit under the hood? I like the 3rd one and the 5th one, if you go through with the 5th one make the address to your site a tinny bit smaller it distracts from the name. -
Ya kenwood excelon series are excellent head-units. Ive had two already and both have served me well, They have A+++++ sound quality and plenty of features, there only down fall is there menus for the advanced features is something you would have to pull over to change, and they are a little pricey, but either way they are great. pioneers are good to but I like the kenwood excelon x990 x991 just because they go all out at it. If money isn't a issue x990 is good. x991 is a little overkill even though I own one.

I could find one closer but, its just I really wanted to go to the SSA one, if they had a closer show or if they where visiting another show i'd be there right away. Is there a way for me to tell which shows they will be at?? and a show farther north would be great, and if you hate the cold trust me its gets 90F easily up here once it hits late june.

I'm not sure how recommended this would be, but when I built a temporary box I built once I used gorilla wood glue and screws to hold the wood together, then I caulked all the corners and let it sit over night, and then I took rubber sealant in a can and I coated the entire inside of the box, The box worked well for the 1.5 months that I used it. And this was with a xcon getting 600 watts at the time in a 5 cubic foot box tuned to 25 hz those low notes rocked in that box. now its in my nice enclosure built by audible customs.
