  1. Please don't bash me for this. I want to know why my ssa xcon sucks at any frequency's above 60hz. I know they are mainly meant for deep bass, but every other sub ive ever owned could hit the 60-100hz range well, even my last 1000rms 15" i used to have. I know this sub is not those subs, but why is a sub that meant for SQ not able to hit those frequency's I really like the fill in there, even that some of you may think its pointless or dumb. also to add is that better component speakers would help but it would take like 6 8" woofers to get the feel i wan't and thats way way to much money for me.

15" xcon not good at upper bass??

I taped them shut to make sure and they have only moved an inch so far. I can't drive to crazy with original front shocks.

    noob entering spl competition.

ya same here, now I know, I just wanna see everyones faces when a single 15 hits louder, thats why I wanna tune it to peak. Just in a cheap box. I was thinking of getting 1" mdf and making a box for spl. something cheap for me to use when I do go to a show. the shows are fun.
  4. So I am going to a sound competition on sunday/may 2nd, and I am planning on entering into the street beat sb4 category, I know its just for consumers, but everyones gotta start somewhere, plus my car needs better electrical and a better amp to do anything more challenging. So does anyone have any tips for me. I have read the USACi rules already, but i'd like some tips from the more experienced. I have a ssa 15" xcon hooked up to a hifonics 1610d amp. let me know

    noob entering spl competition.

ya, I have been debating whether I should make a second box to go to a show with and see how the xcon works tuned to 41hz since thats what I peaked at. I hope the next show is bigger.

15" xcon not good at upper bass??

well the way it is now, it hits the mids better and it can still hit down to 30hz with intensity. my box is 4ft^3 tuned to 29hz.

15" xcon not good at upper bass??

I put 1 one gallon paint can and 4 one quart paint cans inside the box to test how it sounds and it does sound better, the drums actually make my mirror move now. I have no clue what it is tuned to, how would I figure out how much space those 5 cans are taking up??
  8. I was playing with winisd, and I have heard the xcon's are great in a sealed box, but when i typed in all the correct figures for a sealed box the freq response wasn't flat at all it started to drop at around 80hz and kept going down, but the ported box was flat down to the tuning freq????

    two differently tuned ports?

That was an interesting read, I don't think I'd ever do it, maybe in a home situation if it would work in a HT setup. I was just thinkin.
  10. I was wondering if you could have to ports on a enclosure and have each of them tuned differently, for example, one would be tuned to 30hz and the other to 35hz, would this enhance the sound or ruin it? I'm just curious.

    sealed freq response on xcon??

so for testing reasons, how much 3/4" mdf should I put inb my 4^3ft 29hz box to make it 33-34hz?? I'm not very good at math.

15" xcon not good at upper bass??

but I like the intensity of the mids on the sub and I had it crossovered with my old sub at 80hz with a 12db slope and it had great response down to 40hz

    sealed freq response on xcon??

but my radio even with how much i love it has no EQ for the sub, it has loudness but that just make it boomy. Plus don't the subs bottom out easy when there playing below tuning? I really like to push my subs.

15" xcon not good at upper bass??

Ya but I like the style of slot ports and I didn't think 29hz would make that much of a difference. My last 15" was tuned to 32hz and it could go up to 100hz easily.

    sealed freq response on xcon??

well i listen to techno which has a lot of bass that range from 30hz to 100hz and I like my subs to reproduce this. My last 15" could reproduce 40hz to 100hz easily tuned to 32hz in a 3.4^3ft . I wanted something with more accuracy and that could hit a little deeper but still hit the mids good to.

15" xcon not good at upper bass??

I think 5^3ft would be a lil to big.

15" xcon not good at upper bass??

well what should I tune it to for me to have a clean response between 35hz-90hz?
  18. gadgeteer123

    sealed freq response on xcon??

so how do I know what is perfect? Should I just simply go with what ssa says it should be? or is there something better? I'd like it to have a clean response from 30hz to 90hz, if anything at least 35hz to 90hz
  19. gadgeteer123

    sealed freq response on xcon??

is it supposed to curve?? I thought the line was supposed to be completely flat? explain to me please.
  20. gadgeteer123

    sealed freq response on xcon??

    the qtc is 0.60
  21. gadgeteer123

    sealed freq response on xcon??

there isn;t a qtc number in winisd pro? theres qts qms and qes
  22. gadgeteer123

    two differently tuned ports?

    ya, thats why I asked.
  23. gadgeteer123

    two differently tuned ports?

I was just thinking it could maybe give a wider tuning range.
  24. gadgeteer123

15" xcon not good at upper bass??

I think i will try putting something in there to see how tuning it higher sounds and if it sounds better, I will pay audible customs to adjust the tuning of the box to 31-32hz, because I need to send it to him anyways because there is a tiny tiny leak, but hes paying for all the shipping So should I do that?

15" xcon not good at upper bass??

I was thinking, and the ports on the inside of the box, that you can see in the corners in the picture below, what if you just cut of 2"-3" off of that part of the port? would this work?
