what does it take to get 150dB @ 25Hz?

Then I have succeeded! :faintthud: :faintthud: :faintthud: :faintthud: :faintthud: :faintthud: :faintthud: :faintthud: :faintthud: :faintthud: No, you have not succeeded. Sorry.

  3. The fact that K.W. won't listen but keeps asking is entertaining to me. I know what to expect, therefore I don't get irritated. I subscribe to everyone I can find, they bring a much needed laugh to my day and they're free!

    Jonathan's 1994 Camry Wagon build. | Video(s) on page 22!

Your build is coming along, nice job! The box is turning out awesome! I tried kerfing wood, didn't turn out so well. couldnt get "thru" the grommet. so i went around. Not to rain on your parade, but this is a very bad idea. If nothing else put a slit in the grommet or a hole and use a strain relief. Some of these are water proof and they're only a couple of bucks at menards.>strain relief You'll eventually wear through the casing and blow fuses or worse start a fire if you don't have it fused. Keep going, you'll have bass before you know it!

O.K., I'm completely lost. You're asking for help again, no problem, I'm sure you can get it from the people on this forum. What I don't get is WHY you're asking when you seem to have no intention of listening. I just saw this thread you started: kryptonitewhite's Excursion limo build log When I ask others to put an effort and take time from their day to help me with a suggestion or problem of mine, I tend to listen to the responses I receive. One thing I'll say is I do enjoy your topics. They put a smile on my face and make me shoot beer through my nose if I'm not careful when reading the responses. It seems you've already made a decision on the vehicle as well as the equipment. Good luck with that, you're going ported, but still with IB subs that you've repeatedly been told won't the way you think they will. Am I missing anything? EDIT: I just saw this thread on SSA.

Well, 24sq." of port for a 2 c.f. net box is within the generally accepted guidelines of 12-16 sq." of port area per cubic foot. However, Power and excursion have to come into play as well. A JL 12wo on 125 watts can't require the same amount of port per c.f. as your DP on allot more power, there's allot more air to move. Where did the 20 hertz note come from and how does he know it's a 20 hertz note? If you were trying to play a 20 hertz note with the sub/infrasonic filter set incorrectly and the box tuned 30-45 hertz, that's what should happen. How well do you know this guy? Maybe I'm odd, different or whatever, but I'm unimpressed when I here someone crap on another product to make theirs look better, rather than simply telling me why their product is better than the other. I'm no expert here, many others on here have more experience and knowledge than I. Post the spec.s of Bromos design on your next post and see what others have to say.

    Sealed Box.

I don't see a problem. You "could" kill them either way. Set the gain while you can see they are short of max excursion with test tones/sweeps. You could put something in the box to take up space and run them sealed until you get the aeros in. When I've tuned sealed enclosures in the past, I'll build the box to the largest volume I'd consider using. I'd then add taped up phone books, sheets of foam board or whatever I had on hand that was solid to take up air space. When I found the volume I was happy with, I'd rebuild the enclosure to those new specifications. It saved time and cash that way.

Allot of us DO care, that's why we're here and what makes thus forum so awesome. I don't remember what kind of power you have, but you may want to increase the net volume if you have room. I have heard quite a few people on this forum that have only great things to say about Bromo and his designs. You may want to do a search for some of his designs/work, it may be a little complicated for your builder, I have no idea as to what your builders skills are.

    Crazy stupid electrical rigging

I looked back at the pics again. It looks as if he cut the sheath and all the strands except for the ones left in the butt connector. It looks like he pulled new through the firewall.

I don't know how many ported boxes you've heard before, or what different tunings you've heard/liked for the music you prefer. If this is "one" of the first, I'd suggest you play with the port length/ tuning with the box you have now before you rebuild. If the builder stated he'd rebuild the box for free, I'd try to know what I want before I take him up on his offer. I'd also let him know now that you're not pleased with the current tuning and ask how he came up with the box volume and port length/volume. If he can't answer those questions, time to move on and learn for yourself. You'll only get better with practice, trial and error. Everybody has got to start somewhere and we're all still learning. Good luck with the new box!

    Crazy stupid electrical rigging

WOW, That's something, not sure what to call it. How's the wire supposed to stay in the larger gauge cable? Glue, tape or a miracle?

I plugged those dimensions into BBP6. It doesn't figure the port using the outside wall as a port wall so the numbers will only be "in the neighborhood". I come up with 1.92 c.f. net and ~ 45 hertz tuning, assuming all walls are .75" only. If the walls are thicker or there is bracing/ 45's in the corners the tuning will be higher. You didn't state what tuning you were after, but I can only assume you were not expecting it to be that high. Were you? If you add to the existing port (outside of the box) and increase the port length to 31" total you'd be ~ 33 hertz tuning. 27" total would be ~ 35 hertz tuning. I other words don't alter the net volume you have now, construct a port ~ 16" in length and screw it to the outside of the box, test and see if it sounds better to you. You can always trim the port down 1" at a time to achieve the desired tuning/sound you like, then rebuild the box to the new specifications. Now that you know what your problem is don't be tempted to play the sub until you either change the infrasonic/subsonic filter or fix the box, or you'll kill the sub quickly with that volume knob.

What are the box/port dimensions? It sounds like you're trying to play too far below the port tuning, but without more info it's anybodies guess.

Let the Bodies Hit the Floor

Imagine hearing that for the first time in the middle of the night. was that!!!!!!
  17. It just keeps getting better and better. Mids were working fine today, but I now have a one hell of a turn off thump. I wonder what could be next, maybe the screen will motor out and fall off or it'll start on fire. I really, really hate this head unit !!!!!!!!!! :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun: :biggun:
  18. H.U. >>>>>>>>>>>>Eclipse AV8533, installed ~ 2 months ago, new in box before that. I'm the original owner. Mid bass speakers>>>>Peerless sls (830946) 4 of them. Mid bass amp>>>>>> Sundown sax 125.2, installed ~ 2 months ago, I'm the original owner. A couple of days ago I thought I heard my midbass speakers fade out, then come back on in a second or two. I wasn't sure if I heard it or not, so I dismissed it. Today I got in my truck and got on the E-way (I'm 2 min. from the E-way) and my midbass speakers faded out again. I don't think this is a wiring issue, it happens like clockwork, they play for ~6 seconds, fade out for ~2 seconds, then come back on. This cycle repeats as long as the stereo is on, radio or cd and occurs at any volume level. I don't have problems with any other amps/speakers in the truck. The list of equipment in the truck is in my sig. I'll try to check the rca outputs in the next couple of days to isolate either the HU (stops sending a signal) or the amp. The fact that cycle is so consistent leads me to believe that it's not something loose, but maybe something is overloading or resetting itself. There's no weird noises when this happens, it's as though the I'm turning the volume down and up on the midbass only. Any of you electrical guys have any ideas?
  19. Yesterday I only went to work and back, about 10 min. trip and everything was ok. Today I had running to do after work, no problems for the 1/2 hour ride to my moms. I took her to her aquatic therapy class, ~5 min trip, all is fine. I come back out to the truck while I'm waiting and BAM, midbass starts cutting out. I looked at the 125.2 and the power light stays on. I checked the hide-away unit and wiring, nothing is shorting/touching anything. I've got to believe it's the head not the amp, there's a hide-away unit I could open up and look at, but I doubt I'll see anything. Why does crap always go wrong when when you don't have time or it's below 20* out!!!!!! I'm really disappointed with this eclipse unit and I've never had any problems with any of there equipment before. Anyone have any suggestions, beside a 3lb. hammer? The hammer may not fix it, but it'll never f**k with me again.
  20. Sorta, kinda, mostly, ya I guess I do, but my money is on the eclipse head unit at this point.
  21. I'll check the amp and the rca out tomorrow on my lunch break. I'll watch the power light on the sax-125.2, to see if it's powering down. I have a funny feeling its the head unit, if the amp was going into protect wouldn't I have to cycle the power off/on to reset it? If it is the head unit and it can be fixed, would you recommend anyplace to have it repaired. I really hate the HU at this point.

I need some help with a situation..

If this is what actually happened ^^^^^^^. I'd ask her to give the camera back, if she refuses tell her you will be calling the cops. Tell her that you have saved the text messages she sent you and you'll be showing them to the cops as proof that she has your property. If the cops don't do anything to help, I'd probably help myself to something of hers that carries the same value and I'd tell her what I did to her face (word against word, no record of proof). If she doesn't give the camera back you're probably screwed. You could take her to court, but even if she shows up and she's ordered to give the property back or XXX amount of cash there's nothing making her follow through after she leaves the courtroom. Good luck! Hope you get this sorted out.
