A technical understanding of Polyfill
Dammed replied to DevilDriver's topic in Technical Info & How To's
so about 10lb, thx. -
Yeah doesn't mater for me either. I'm probably going to do the install around March. So no hurry.

I ordered myself 2 Q's from them last week, anybody knows if there is a longer waiting time for any reason? (yes I know I should except 2-3 weeks, just checking if I should expect 4-6weeks)

what's the right amount for a 10,25 cu ft enclosure? -
I'm trying to get a P800PRS (they are discontinued). And I found some shops that still has it in stock, but I have never bought from them before. shops: Speed & Sound Electronics Corp. Techronics Dominantcaraudio http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com The Specialists Inc. Anyone that have some experience with these shops?
-
mm, checked if it was in stock? Cause it isn't. And if someone is interested, Pioneer is discontinuing their Premier line, and the new 2010 models will probably be ready around April/May. That's what a guy said to me from Pioneer USA. And that's the reason sonicelectronix and many other stores don't have this cd player in stock.
-
Yeah I saw pages like that one, I googled "Techronics experience forum" and "Techronics review" and got many pages, some were bad some were good. But since I saved 150$ (27% compared to woofersetc) I took the chance, I hope it pays out. It's kinda scary comparing online shops in US and Norway to be honest. If you tried a scam in Norway like I have seen dealercostcaraudio are doing, you would be on the news and probably sent to jail within 4 weeks. I mean, there's like thousands of bad reviews from people who have bought items there.
-
I'm going to buy a Pioneer DEH-P800PRS. (SSA shop didn't have it either.)
-
Yeah, they had tons of complains... try to google the name and all you see is "scam" "didn't recieve what I ordered" etc etc. But Techronics have ok rep and the store has been working for at least 6 years (oldest review I found). So I'm going to buy from there.

None of the shops mentioned in that thread has it.

Hifonics ?
Dammed replied to Technology's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
for the money one of the best amps out there. It does underrated power, but even with that in consideration it's still one of the best buys. I had two ZXi-6006 amplifier, the one driving the subwoofer ran to hot only once, but this was in the summer when there was 30-35C (about 100F) probably even more in my trunk. Other than that one episode mine worked fine for 1.5 years. The new bxi and zxki series are going to get some upgrades, like better heatsinks and some other stuff to make them run cooler. It's not the best amps out there, but it's good bang for the buck. The XX series are generally pretty good. I just bought a Hifonics XX Colossus II for myself. -
it's sold in some shops in Norway, the sellers compares them to JBL/sony, but no I don't have any on-hand exp with them. I wouldn't buy them.

How to recognize a good SQ amplifier?
Dammed posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Well the title says it all, I havge been surfing a while now and found MANY amplifiers that match my budget and wishes for power. Now the question becomes what amplifier will make me speakers give out the best SQ possible. Brands I have taken a look at: Nakamichi, Zapco, Sundown Audio, ARC Audio, Alpine, Infinity, MB Quart, Memphis, Rockford Fosgate, Hifonics, Soundstream, Rainbow, Orion, MTX, Alphasonik, PPI, Diamond Audio and Kicker As You can see, a lot of brands, and even more amps. so I have a lot of work a head of me. I know a little basic stuff, like THD and S/N Ratio and what to look for there. But is there any thing else one can look at to find out what amplifier gives the best SQ? -
you're not the only one mate. First time I have experienced that a whole forum is censoring a name. Feels almost like north korea lol. But anyway, yeah they look sick. I have heard rumors that the price will be around 50% more then the Mayhem sub. Can't wait to see how they will perform in DB contests.
-
I'm not very familiar with that brand, but I believe it's comparable to JBL, good but not top notch like Focal, JL etc.
-
I know here where I live most people use Fiat Panda for serious DB drag. It has something to the resonance frequency of the car I think. In theory, I think a big car would be best, because you can build a enormous enclosure and have the subs right behind the driver seat.

I know I have a car audio addiction when......

You start dreaming about amplifier You're day dreaming about how to build a new enclosure You spend the whole monthly scholarship on car stereo, so you en up eating bread and jam for 30 days. -
How to recognize a good SQ amplifier?
Dammed replied to Dammed's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I'll maybe use the the LPS. If I use a external processor later, I won't use the crossover anyway. So the question comes down to build quality and power. And nobody has screamed SmokeStream yet and I haven't found any complaints about the amp on this or other forums. So It should be good. If the amp suck you all will hear about it here. -
How to recognize a good SQ amplifier?
Dammed replied to Dammed's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Yeah I though you would say that. But in the end with a external processor, I will get more from the Soundstream amp then from the Sundown Audio amp. Considering I will be running 2 sets of infinity Kappa perfect 6.1 passively on the amplifier I don't think it will mater much. I'll rather have a little bit less SQ in my system now, so that I might have great SQ with more power later on. -
I guess someone was good this year.

How to recognize a good SQ amplifier?
Dammed replied to Dammed's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Yeah it's a good sounding system I am after. And my choice came down to the Soundstream amp, cause I believe the more power justifies the loss of being able to choose 12 or 24db/octave slope on the crossover. And like you two said, a external processor would do a better job either way, so when I'm going to go with a active set up, I might as well buy a external processor. For my passive set up, I think the Soundstream will be more then good enough. So thx for the help guys. -
soundstream Dtower?
Dammed replied to SynCity's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
depends on the length of the cable. 3-4 feet should be fine. but I would recommend running a 1/0 wire with a reducer to 4awg to the amp. source: Determine Appropriate Wire Gauge - Realm of Excursion -
How to recognize a good SQ amplifier?
Dammed replied to Dammed's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
ok, man wish I had the time to buy a book on this stuff and read it. :S I managed to skip something in my previous post, whats "x10 selectable range switch"? It's a x10 boost to the frequency span the crossover right? How important, SQ wise, is the ability to change the slope from 12db/octave to 24db/octave when compared to additional 30W rms? -

The rear set is only being used when there are people in the back seats, which is almost never. It's kinda good to hear some music when you're in the back seats as well. IMO you shouldn't assume that someone is starting from scrap if they don't write all of what they have done. My car is deadened pretty good (doors and floors), the trunk and the roof needs deadening but that's getting done before the install of the new subs and amps. The electricity is going to be good, a 180A alternator from Iraggi is going to be ordered soon, my car has a HC600 in the front and two HC1800 in the back, the big 3 are done and there are 1/0 cable for positive and negative going from the front to the back. Nakamichi PA4100 doesn't have crossovers for ch1+2 and ch 3+4. I got this info from a forum, since I can't got hold on a owners manual and the website is just full of shit. Sorry, but all the fancy words are good and all, but how about some pictures of the terminals or some technical info? All of them have independent crossovers for channels 1-2 and 3-4. Soundstream has a variable subsonic filter as well, it's the Hawkin Boost Control, which also can give a 0-10db boost at the given frequency. The Rockford does not. Since I didn't know much about the octave slopes, I googled a bit and found many sites and one really good one with some info on this: LINK As I understand it, a 12db/octave slope will give a smoother sound in comparison to a 24dv/octave slope which will allmost creat a edge to the sound. Isn't 24 db/octave more useful in LPF for subs? I'm a novice in this field, but from what I have gathered by googling around a bit using a 24db/octave slope for mids/tweeters will not be really good. The sound will be unnatural and unrealistic. Am I mistaken here?
