I'm always so lucky. once I got a jbl 15wgti,a $600 sub, at a pawn shop for $70. they had it in a crappy box and didnt know what they had. Then a couple months ago I bought a soundstream tarantula tr880/2 for $300 in the box. now I have a soundstream splx 12. I've been to 3 comps and I never see ss in the lanes. But every comp I've been to was a local comp, maybe 15-20 car competeing. Has any one seen anything impressive come from ss. I've seen the xxx. but what about as far as number wise. any impressive cars with soundstream. so far I'm not impressed with the splx 12. thinking about switching brands. I know the amp is good to keep but the ss subs may need to go. I can't afford a xxx. thanks

sound deadener and heat

I need to get up under there and see exactly why its rattleing. A weld shop would'nt charge much to weld something that small. Then again there are 2 kinds of deadener that can withstand over 500 degrees. If only I could get my hands on a small package of one of them. -
sound deadener and heat

I have a aouple of rattles left to get out of my car. I bought some 60 mil dynamat type sound deadener off ebay. one of the last rattles I have is the heat deflector that is mounted 2 1/2" away from my muffler. it probably doesn't get near as hot as the muffler, but I want to get some feedback on it before I put any on the top of the deflector. does anyone know how much heat these deadeners can take safely. Should I put the deadener on the deflector? any advice would be appreciated. thanks Josh -
I dont like the dash or windshield mount readings. I've only had 4 db readings and the windshield mount type always read lower.

Thanks for the link. It will help a lot. I may have to buy a small amount just to do the deflector. I have the b-quiet extreme and its not ok for temps ubove 160. But I wonder how hot the deflector gets? -
what are you hitting with that setup in your jeep? 150's?

damn 153 is pretty loud. I doubt I could come close to that with my amp. I have one 12 now with 880 rms going to it. Thinking of trying some different sub combos. like three 10's, 2 soundstream spl 15's, or maybe one fairly high powered 15 around 800 rms(memphis mojo, alphasonik 800.)

I have a soundstream tarantula tr880/2 amp(880rms) and now a soundstream splx 12" 750rms. I have 4 ga amp wires and 10 ga speaker wire, all on a alpine headunit. trunk is dynamated. I just got this sub off ebay after selling my jbl 15wgti. I didnt have much space and I figured I could get a 12" to pound as hard as a 15" I've saw guys at comps do it. But with this soundstream sub I'm not impressed. It came with a cheap particle board 2.3 ft. air space ported box, I plan on getting a nice box. the 15" hit a lot harder then the 12 in just as crappy a box. If anyone out there can give me some pointers on how to get this 12 to sound like a 15 please let me know. let me know if you think this sub is capable of being as loud as a 15" thanks for responses

Ya, I did'nt like the ohm configuration of the jbl. It had dual 6 ohm v.c.'s. hard to match an amp to it, did'nt want to buy an amp so it went. So I figured I'd go all soundstream. The splx seemed the best thing ss offered, besides the xxx. so does any one think this sub is capable of my demands, or should this sub go to. I've been experimenting with systems to get the optimum sound from this amp, still have lots of work to do. The box I have is 2.3 cu. ft. ported(pictured to the left), I'm not sure of the tuning frequency. The box is hella chitty though. looks ok but its made of particle board, so theres flexation and box noise. By the way any feedback on slot ported boxes, obviously this ones crappy, do they compare to normal ported boxes.
