New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

Ok I see So even if I set my Gain right with a DMM, I can still play with the Bass setting in the receiver... maybe +2 or +3 (goes up to +6). On the other side (sorry for changing topics a lot lol) I just realized something. The gain with my current system (Pioneer + Sony) should be sqrt( 2ohms * 900) = 42.43 Now, I just bought the 2000D and I plan on using it at 1ohm so that it gets the whole 2000watts RMS from the SAZ-2000D. To set the gain, we do the formula sqrt (1ohm * 2000) = 44.72 Does this sound right? Idk if its because I havent played with enough car amplifiers, but are the numbers correct according to what I just wrote? They seem really close to each other =/ EDIT: Just fixed my system. Increased Gain to 0.5 (which would be ~2:00 o'clock) and set my Bass to +3 on the receiver. Bass improved a bit, however I noticed when I put +6, the bass comes out louder at the level I wish it could come. I dont wanna risk it and increase the Gain all the way to 0.2 I feel like that would not be in a safe zone without a DMM.

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

Well since it is only a factory head unit, it only has "Bass" and "Treble" settings, nothing else. There is NO such thing as Bass Boost/Extend or Loudness or just Subwoofer like in Alpine units. With that said, I will try increasing the Gain in the amplifier to see if that improves things without harming anything, but I will def need a DMM as I dont want to play too high with the Gain. One question tho, why is it bad to play with the Bass setting on the receiver?

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

Yeah I have a feeling my Gain could go higher. When I have my Bass setting in default in the receiver, bass is almost non-existent and I think you guys told me not to increase the bass in the receiver. The only way I feel the subwoofer IS actually working is when I rise the bass in the receiver, but I think thats a no-no right?

    Sundown Holiday special!!

Is it ok if I just use the Right + - and Left + - from my current high level input for the RCA adaptor? Just in case removing the factory radio becomes kinda complicated...

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

Hmm thats not the problem. I know Im making a big deal out of it but the problem here is 1) I dont know the car 2) everytime I look around where can I pop things off to look for screws, it seems like Im going to break something and I dont want that to happen. On the other side I fixed my amp settings. I had a lot of mistakes there 1) Bass Boost was on like 40%, is now on 0% (off) 2) My Low Pass Filter was on 100Hz, I left that there. However, the slope was on 24db!, I set it to 12db. 3) My Subsonic Filter was on 20Hz, that was good there. However, the slope was OFF, I immediately changed it to 24db. My system sounds really low now (as missing bass), but I guess thats because of the Bass Boost. I left my Gain on 50% but I would need a DMM to know where exactly I should set it. I didnt know Bass Boost had that much impact when it came to low notes. Sucks... I feel like I have factory speakers only LOL

    Sundown Holiday special!!

I think the Sundown has no High Level Imput which means I will have to get one of those Speaker to RCA adaptors. Can anyone tell me where can I get those? Any specific brand/model?

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

Well the guy I used to buy stuff from charges $40 for installations. Plus $25 for those adaptors. Well, is it really that easy? I mean I could try is just that I dont want to get stuck in certain point you know.

Omg with so many good reviews from users here about SSA and Denim, I cant wait to get that amp and start TRULY using my Pioneer sub!!!! I hope everything gets here before next weekend and safe!!! Woooooo EDIT: Wow, one of the most important things and I didnt even notice. Please tell me the SAZ-2000D has high-level input connector. If not, thats $65 that I will have to pay to have an audio to RCA adaptor installed... great...

    Sundown Holiday special!!

Great choice! You will love Sundown! I hope so man! After a long time of reading and reviewing so many amps and subs, I came to this place and found out all I needed. Hopefully that Sundown will put TO SHAME the current Sony I have!

Oh ok, so thats what the phase shift is for. Will prob spend time with it after I listen to the amp and how is sounding. The gain, ill do what you are telling me. You are right, 9:00 might be the right setting and 12 would just be too much. I think I'm suppose to set my Bass and Treble to default in my receiver right? After setting the gain, can I use my Bass and Treble settings or am I suppose to leave them always at default? Finally, Im using High-Level Input since Im using factory receiver (just wanted to point this). Somebody mentioned before in this thread that it doesnt matter what kind of connection I use as long as my gain is right, the sound will come out like it should. And about the terminals I meant the power & ground connectors that go into the amplifier. I thought I needed to change those in order to use the Sundown amplifier. But since you said I can use my 4 gauge with the Sundown, I guess all I need to do is disconnect old one, and connect to the new one. I thought you could put 1/0 connectors into 4 gauge cables, but it would require tools to make it fit. Am I wrong?

Ok just finished ordering one. I cant wait now Just to mention, when you try to create a new account while in checkout, it didnt work for some reason. It would refresh only. Had to create an account THEN go to checkout and pay. Just wanna know, what shipping service and method do you guys use? When should I expect it so I can be here to get it?

    Sundown Holiday special!!

Ok I see you guys mentioned "excessive vibrations" a lot. I dont plan on having the amp unscrewed, moving side to side every time I make a turn. But do you mean that you need to take more precautions with this amp compared to what you would with a Sony or Pioneer one? In other words, is it more delicate? of course I plan on taking care of it. Im not saying Im going to be kicking and throwing it around lol

    Sundown Holiday special!!

Hi Im glad to see this post as Im interested on getting a Sundown Amplifier. I would just like to know when will this offer end? Also, I tried to look for warranty on amplifiers but all I found was warranty on the subwoofers. Where can I find the specific warranty for the amplifiers of Sundown?

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

Ok, Phase Shift & Bass Boost at 0 (completely off). Bass Knob controls gain. So, its fine if I leave my gain at 50% (12:00 o'clock) and use the knob to play the subwoofer just when I need it. No need to change terminals from 4 to 1/0, good cause that saves me some work (Dont get me wrong, Im pretty busy now not that I dont wanna do it). Big 3, Alt and Batt will have to come later, but they will come dont worry Well if there is anything else I should know please post it now. I don't want to rush so I will probably be ordering the amp tonight. Any comments/tips will still be welcomed!

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

I see, well I will definitely not play the system with the car off thats for sure. Now, I will need a DMM to set my gain because I have no idea where to set it without a DMM. I know is 44.72 from the formula, but where in the knob would that be... and I dont want to blow my Pioneer since its the only thing I got. Should I leave it halfway until I get the DMM? or less? Now, what in the world is a Phase Shift???? Never seen that before in amps. Well, idk if Sony amps can really be considered amps lol. Also, I was asking myself this last night. What does the bass knob control? Bass Boost, Gain or what? what am I missing here? Finally, will I need to change the 4-gauge terminal to a 1/0 one (for both power and ground) or will the sundown work straight with 4-gauge terminals?

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

Guys I have finally finished saving some money and I can start buying the first part. I realized that buying the sub would not be the best way to go since I wouldnt have an amplifier, battery, alternator or big 3 to put it to use. So the sub is not something to consider for now. On the other side, we have the amplifier (Sundown 2000D) which I just realized it gives 1000watts RMS @ 2ohms and thats exactly what my Sub runs at (My Pioneer is a Dual 4ohm 1000watts RMS). So I was thinking that I could finally throw away that crappy Sony amplifier that I have and put this one instead. I would be BTL-Ready and I can have it in use powering my Pioneer TS-W3002D4. But before I purchase it I want to make sure Im not doing anything crazy here 1) I currently have my Sony amp with 4 gauge Rockford cabling, the Sundown needs 1/0 gauge. Is there anyway I can use the Sundown with my current 4 gauge power and ground cables? - If so, will the power and ground cables work good enough or will they have a big negative impact in the system? (idk stress in the amp or electrical system or inefficiency anywhere? idk much about this) 2) I only have stock car battery and stock alternator (Ford Expedition 2007), the Sundown is 1000 watts RMS @ 2 ohms (just 100 watts more than the Sony [considering the sony is really giving 900 watts rms] ), will the car be ok with the Sundown? So far with the Sony, Ive only had a dead battery but that doesnt worry me much. What would worry me is the alternator and the car electrical system in general. Thanks for your help.

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

I see So I guess is fine leaving my Subsonic at 20Hz with 24db slope and my Low Pass Filter at 100Hz with 12db slope right? I was about to set my subsonic to 18hz 12db and Low Pass to 100hz 0db (off). I guess I wont touch anything now.

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

Omg marovi After reading your post I feel so educated Thanks for clarying that slope thing. So so so so helpful!!! And yes, that concert example was so easy to understand. Now I know why S-M-D also focused on the front doors and didnt spend much time on the rear. No wonder... Thanks a million bro! EDIT: One last question about my current system. So now that I understand that slope thing and considering I only have a 12inch sub, should I set my subsonic on 24db? I think I have it there already. Since I doubt a 12inch can hit anything lower than 20hz, maybe I should just leave my subsonic filter in 20hz with 24db. And for my Low Pass Filter, leave it at 100hz and set slope to 12db. Does that sound reasonable?

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

Wait im kinda lost here (sorry, havent done much research on speakers as I did with subs) So components are the round ones (5 1/4 and 6 1/2) and coaxials are the oval ones? Yeah I have noticed coaxials have this caps behind the oval. I never understood in detailed what those 6db, 12db and 24db slopes meant or what are they for (neither for the subwoofer ones, Im missing info there). But I got the main idea here. anything but 5 1/4 and 6 1/2s are garbage and shouldnt be used. Wow, this forum keeps teaching me a lot of stuff everyday.

New Setup, Starting from Zero. Tips Welcomed!

I thought when it came to components, the rear ones were actually the good ones? Since the cone is bigger and you can have 3-way speakers. So according to you, 2 pairs of 61/2 Type X for front and back should be no problem at all right? Just get an adapter to fit them in whatever fit you have in that car

You are right, they are pretty expensive at amazon. However, I just checked the website (http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/series-c.php?category=SPKR) and they dont have anything but 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 components in the X series. I thought they had the full set. What should I do in case the car needs 6x9 in the back or 6x8?
