im looking to buy either a Sundown SAZ-2500D or an AQ2200D. neither of these amps are internally fused, and ive never ran an amp that wasnt internally fused.. so my question is do either of these amps come with the fuse holder + fuse? also, i know i need the main wire fuse close to the battery, but how close does the fuse for the amp have to be to the amp? less then a foot?

dumb amp question
Curtis96olds replied to Curtis96olds's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
ahh ok, thats good to know, i am currently using a distribution block that goes from my knu 1/0 to 4 gauge, but thats cause my amp right now is only an AQ1200D, i plan on just running the 1/0 straight to the amp when i get a bigger amp and then run a 4 gauge run to my mids/highs amp. right now my main power fuse is 300 amps, so if i decide to go with the AQ2200D i should get a 200A fuse for it? -
ok i have a 2002 dodge dakota 3.9L and i noticed that they just added alts for my truck (very happy about that by the way!) anyways, im currently running an AQ1200D, i did the "big 3" and i have a kinteic HC2000 under the hood, now in the spring i plan on buying another 1200D and strapping them, and as it is, with the headlights on i get voltage drops to the low 13's. the 2 alts im looking at are https://www.dcpowerinc.com/13874-180-hp.html and https://www.dcpowerinc.com/13874-170-oem.html now i dont see much difference in the 2 except a 10 amp difference and a 60 dollar difference (and the cheaper one puts out 10 more amps) so my question is, which should i get, and would either of them support 2 AQ1200D's strapped with my current battery (i dont have the room to add another battery except my truck bed, and thats out of the question)

thanks for the help guys guess im gonna go with the 180HP series, if i had the money id just go for the 270XP but thats a bit more then i can/want to spend right now.
-
what would be the most wattage i could safely run with the 180 amp alt + my hc2000 battery + big3? like i said im planning on 2400 watts, i just dont want to get the alt and realize ill get voltage drop then have to upgrade again. i highly doubt i will ever run more then 2400 watts in this truck anyway, so as long as ill be fine running that ill be happy. also, if the 180hp one is overall better why is it cheaper? im just curious, both are drop in replacements correct?
-
or you could buy another 1200d, daisy chain them together, buy the dual 1 ohm sub and run it at 2ohms daisy chained so you can give the sub 2400 watts and make it really happy.

im just going by my personal experience, but if your barely moving a shirt with 2 12" type R's its gonna take alot more for a hair trick, i have a single 15 on 600 watts and i can get a shirt moving pretty good and a tiny bit of hair movement. its mostly install dependant (this is in a extended cab dodge dakota) my goal is a decent hair trick as well, thats why this past week i ordered another 15 and an AQ1200D, doubling watts and doubling cone area should definatlely help

ok i have a bit over 2k watts to work with @ 1 ohm, (AQ2200D) i have roughly 5 cubes of space to work with, which would get louder, 2 FI Q 15's sealed, or 1 BTL 15 ported? this will be going in a extended cab dodge dakota. i listen to i would say a 50/50 mix of rap/hiphop and metal/metalcore/deathmetal
-
ok i plan on running 2 SSD 12's off a AQ1200D @ 1 ohm. the box it gonna be roughly 4.4 cubes depending on how much the aeros take up for space. what would you guys suggest for aero size? i know i would need less port area for aeros then say a slot port but im not sure how much less i can use. i was thinking 1 6" aero which would give me 28 sq inches of port area (6.27 per cube) or i was thinking of going with 3 4" aeros which would give me 37 sq inches of port area (8.69 per cube) now i know thats less then the recommended port area for slot ports but i was wondering if either of those would be acceptable for aero ports.
-
hmm ok that sounds good guys, thanks, either way i go it seems like it would be enough port area, so i might go with the 3 4 " aeros to be safe.
-
do you think i would be fine with the 1 6" aero then? thats roughly 50% port area then recommended
-
how can i order the sa-8's? the ssa store still says there sold out

I would go with two fi q 12's ported at 27 hz. One of my friends has a single q 12 ported at 27 and it sounds amazing. It won't be any type of spl machine but the q's slam and sound great at the same time. but would 2 12 Q's ported be louder then 1 BTL 15? considering the Q is a SQ driver and the BTL is a spl driver. i mean i know its more cone area, i just dont know how much that cone area would help. remember, my goal is to get LOUDER then what i have now, and if it sounds a bit better that wouldnt hurt too, if i get a different sub and its not any louder, or just barely louder, it wouldnt be worth the money in my opinion, it needs to be a clear upgrade.
-
so i decided to go with the BTL, and i just modeled up a box, let me know if you guys think this would be good, 4.5 cubes with a port heigh of 15.5 inches, width of 4 inches and a length of 27.75 inches which should bring tuning to roughly 32hz. or is that not enough port area?
-
hmm i dunno, i might just go with the 1 15 BTL to save on cost, as long as it completely destroys my current setup ill be happy. i know it will be louder but i just dont know how much louder, i mean im quadrupling power, but cone area is staying the same, and im tuning lower.
-
you mean 2 12 Q's ported? or sealed? if sealed then i want 15's
-
yeah if i was listening to just rap id go ported for sure, but i just dont like the way ported sounds with metal/metalcore, right now i have an AQ sdc2.5 15 on 500 watts tuned to 38hz and i dont like the sound of it on metal but it kills rap (for 500 watts that is) so im looking to get a ton louder and sound better doing it.

i think we need more info to give you any advice, like space available, electrical upgrades (your gonna need it if your gonna be running 2 btl's) ect.

What kind of amp do i need to power 2 dual voice coil 4ohm subs?
Curtis96olds replied to scottrod's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
i can almost guarantee that those subs would blow if you give them a true 1150 rms, even though there rated for it... i doubt they can actually handle that, mostly cause there BOSS did you even look at the xmax? its only 8mm! -
ok i have a 2002 dodge dakota extended cab, and i was thinking of putting 4 SA-8's in the back area after taking out the back seat. i will get the D4 coil configuration and run 2 off a dsc1000.1 and the other 2 off another dsc1000.1 (each sub will get 500watts) now i have no clue how to design a box, the only other ported box i made someone else designed for me and i built it. i dunno max dimensions of the box but if you tell me how many cubes it has to be i can figure out how to make that size box fit where it needs to, also for the "easy" factor id like to use aero ports instead of a slot port design, so what size and lengh aeros would i need? and where can i buy those? id like it to be tuned to around 35hz. thanks guys!
-
hmm so i guess its settled, gonna do a 3.2 cube box with 3 4" aeros each with a length of 23". now do i gotta support those aeros inside the box at all? and whats the general rule, how close can the ports be to a wall? cause ill have a max of like 6 inches from the side of the box to the side of my truck new problem, the aero's you can buy at http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=268-352 only come in 17 inch lengths, and i need 23 inch lengths, can i just buy some 4" pvc pipe and attach the aero ends to it?
-
hmm the only weird thing about the SSA store SSA Store - Sundown Audio SA-8 Subwoofer is it says its still a pre-order item, which i know its really not, but why havent they updated it? also, how would subs up, ports coming out the side sound? cause thats the only way id be able to get 23" long aero's inside the box. also ive never used aero's before, do you have to put brackets on them so they dont move around at all inside the box or do you just let them hang there?
-
hmm 23 inches long? that would force me to do ports outside the box which i was hoping i wasnt gonna have to do. also, they still make and sell these subs right?
-
ok guys, i came up with a box myself, i just want to confirm with you guys if this sounds right box will be 3.2 cubes with 2 4" aero ports with a length of 14.35 inches each. the calc you linked me says that will tune it to 35hz. that sound about right to you guys? and on a side note are you still able to order these in the SSA store, i know it lists them but are they still being made?
