lol i see what you did there, hint taken, i will take photos when the sub comes i i promise, although i dont see what photos do, i mean im sure everyone on here has either seen a pic of a btl 18 or seen one i person, but ill take pics for proof

im about to order an alt for my 2005 dodge dakota 3.7L (DC website only lists alts for the 4.7L V8) but they happen to take the same exact alternator anways. so im 100% sure i want to go with the XP series, but they have a 250 amp alt and a 270 amp alt, and i cant really see any other difference other then 20 amps, is it really worth the extra 80 bucks for 20 more amps? that is unless there is more of a difference between the two then i saw.

nah right now im just running my AQ sdc2.5 15 from my old build temporarily until my BTL 18 fully loaded comes in
-
trust me, you dont want to see my setup right now, its a complete mess and all temporary as far as sub/amps go, im using an old box i made 2 years ago and have used it in my past 2 vehicles, its my first box i ever built, its too small for the sub, its tuned to high and it just sucks, and the wiring is a complete mess, i dont want to embarrass myself by posting pics of it, but when my sub comes in ill post pics in the build log section and try to get a couple pics of the box build as well, and then everyones favorite part, a video or 2 it should all look clean when im done, but i didnt want to waste time making it look for for 2 weeks then just tear it all out again.

just got my alt in, very happy with it so far, its charging at 14.2 which is perfect for me. i dont really have a huge load on it now, just an AQ1200D and a MB quart dsc4125, and just running a kinetic HC2000 as my starting battery, no addition batteries, and my voltage doesnt even budge at all full tilt with a/c on and all lights on, but the real test is when i get my new amp, the AQ2200D and then hopfullly next income tax, another 2200D strapped . just wanted to say thanks for an awesome ordering experience, wicked fast shipping, and an incredibly well built alternator! i will defiantly come to you guys when i need a new alt for my next vehicle!

what to use to paint a subwoofer box
Curtis96olds replied to irvin productionz's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
what i normally do is sand it down real good, and actually use a basecoat/clearcoat paint, it may seem excessive but it comes out the smoothest, and you can lay on a good thick coat of it, and it has a durable finish. i use a paint gun though, if you dont have access to one, you can also go to your local auto parts store and get a universal clear in a spray can that works good as well (i only know that cause i work at an auto parts store) -
nah, i did end up recieving the 250 XP, but thats ok, im not mad about it, it really wasnt expecting it anyway, the 250 XP will give me more then enough amperage for what im running, hell i probably would of just bought the 180 HP alt if it was in stock.

recieved my alt yesterday, but i couldnt get on the forums because of a massive storm that cut out our power, i havent installed it yet, but it looks pretty beefy and very well made. just wanted to thank you guys for a fast delivery and an awesome alt although i havent used it yet.

i ordered the BTL 18 fully loaded, i should be happy with that as for the sdc2.5 15's, yeah i still have them, but i was never able to get them to really hit the lows like i wanted, even when tuned to 32hz, so i gave up on them, i wanted something different anyway, i wanted to upgrade from a entry level sub (sdc2.5) to a high end sub and see how it compares. ohh and playing with the numbers, i came up with 30" high, 45" wide, and 15" deep, that will leave me with half my rear window to see out of, after taking out port area and bracing, im left with 7.5 cubes tuned to 32hz, should get loud and low.
-
im looking to upgrade from my previous setup which consisted of 2 AQ sdc2.5 15's and an AQ1200D, basically i want to get louder, but i have the same limited space i had before. the dimensions i have to work with are 47" wide, 15" deep, and 35" high. i will be using an AQ2200D to power this system. i mainly listen to decaf music or other rap/hiphop 90% of the time, other 10% is rock/metal. so a sub that likes to be tuned low is what im going after. my budget is 500-600 bucks tops. im just having a hard time making a decision because i want to make sure this setup will get louder... i dunno if i want 2 15's that can take more power, or a single 18, or a IA DP 21, or 4 12's... really any of those will fit into my area, but i dont know which, or which subs to go with for my budget while still getting louder then i was. maybe a BTL 18 on the AQ2200 or a IA DP 21 off the AQ2200, not sure which of those would get louder off that power.

i know it doesnt seem it, but i do appreciate the help, i dont mean to be rude, i know it make come off that way, but its not on purpose, i have had 2 of these trucks and i know what has worked well for me in the past, and generally when someone has had good experiences with doing things a certain way, its hard to change their mind on how they do things. with that being said, with the reseach i have done on the BTL, and the youtube vids i have seen of them, in combination with the fact that i have been subless for 6 months, i think i will be very happy with the output of the BTL 18. lol at this point, after listening to a stock radio for 6 months i think id be happy with 1 10 lol.
-
so basically what your trying to say is that a BTL 15 in a box thats sub UP port to drivers side, would be louder then a BTL 18 with a box thats sub FORWARD port up? im not gonna lie... that doesnt make much sense at all, if that was true, then why are 90% of the truck builds, sub forward?
-
all of my sub setups in trucks have been subs forward, port up, thats what most people seem to do and it works out great, i dont care if i loose my rear window view, 75% of the time i cant see out of it anyway because my fourwheeler is in the back bed. and i definatly do not want to go with a single 15" setup. ill probably just get the BTL 18 and if it isnt loud enough i guess ill just sell it on the forums. but then again maybe i am under estimating how loud a BTL is.. ive never heard one in person.
-
I think i want the BTL 18, but it just makes me scared going from 353 sq inches of cone area, down to 254 sq inches of cone area, but i am doubling power, and my box for the sdc2.5 15's was a tad on the small side, so i dont know it doesnt seem like an upgrade, anyone have experience with both of those setups? i just want to make sure the BTL will get loud enough for me lol, i know i keep saying that, but this is alot of money that i cant just waste.
-
so does that mean i may have somehow ordered the wrong alternator? or does the one you shipped fit a 2005 dodge dakota 3.7/4.7
-
if i stay under the back window i can only go 23 inches tall with my box, but im not concerned with staying under the back window, 35 inches brings me a couple inches from the roof.
-
yeah, i have quite a but of experience with these dodge dakotas actualy... my old one that i crashed was 2002 and it had more room in the back of it then my new one which is a 2005, in 2005 they make the extended cab portion smaller for some reason. when i had my 2002 i could fit an 18 inch box easy, but not in this one.
-
And how are you basing your opinion on this? OP- what vehicle is this going in? I seen you post dimensions but am having a hard time figuring out how you have 47" wide, 35" high and only 15" deep unless you are trying to install in the back of a 7seater van or somethin.. this is going in an extended cab dodge dakota, 15 inches deep is really the most i can go so i still feel comfortable driving, i can maybe go 16 inches deep but that wont gain me much
-
yeah i havent purchased the amp or subs yet, i was just choosing the AQ2200D because i liked the 1200D and the 2200D is in my price range, and its hard to find a good amp that puts out more power then that for under 400. so you guys really think a nice high powered 18" sub like the BTL or Xcon or maybe even AQ hdc3 18, would be louder then my 2 sdc2.5 15's were on 1200 watts?
-
yeah i got the electrical covered, HC2000 under the hood, and a DC power 270xp alt coming, it shipped out today, should be here late next week. to be honest, i really just want a new setup all together, ive had those subs in my past 2 vehicles, and have had them for 2 years, i just want something different, but at the same time louder since i am spending the money anyways. the box i had the sdc2.5 15's in was i think 6.5 or 7 cubes tuned to 34hz, its been a while i really dont remember, ive been subless for 6 months since i wrecked my last vehicle. im not trying to meter high or anything like that, i dont ever plan on getting it metered anyway, i just want a low tuned daily pounder that moves alot of air.. i love low notes.
-
you sure? cause yeah im adding power, but if i go with a single 18 i will be losing cone area. i just dont have alot of extra money, and if i make the wrong choice and it isnt loud enough for me then i just wasted 600 bucks.

To answer your original question, the only difference is the output, 20 amps on top, ~10 or so on bottom. You made the right choice and got the best bang for the buck, use the other $80 on teh audios or have some fun with it. That said, because I know we have 270's in stock (250's are usually built to order) and that's what you'll get shipped, and it will get shipped tomorrow (Friday).. Thanks again for the order and I look forward to a (hopefully) positive review.. Rob wow, i wasn't expecting that at all, but i greatly appreciate that! i will definitely review the alt once i receive/install it
-
yup i think i am feeling better about it, i just ordered it, i just hope that im not one of the customers that seems to wait a month or so to get my alt and when i do get it, i hope to god that it fits lol I certainly see some people get theirs in a few days, while others takes weeks or even months. I know when I ordered mine, it took about a month, but it wasn't that bad considering it's a custom built product. I ran a saz1500d with no additional batteries, my voltage would just float around in the 14s like no big deal i decided on the 250 amp XP series alt, ill be running a AQ 2200D with that alt and a kinetic HC2000 under the hood, im hoping to not drop below 14 volts full tilt, going by what everyone says, i should stay at 14v no problem.
