    Gotta a New Dodge Magnum......

I got rid of my G35 and bought an Explorer which I decided not to keep, so I got myself an '07 Dodge magnum. I have a pair of Q15's and a US Amps MD2 running off of a hi-lo converter on the stock system, and it still sounds tremendous. In a couple weeks I am installing a new HU and some mids and highs, but mu question for you is....What subs would you run in a Magnum if you were going for a LOUD daily ground pounder that would meter well. Meaning, not an all out SPL setup. Stick with the Q's? Get a pair of 15" BTL's? A single 18" BTL? My new baby...

It was an AC, not the TL, but I'm still happy with the score. I actually had my settings wrong when I metered, but who cares, I'm getting the BTL's now. Be ready to hear from me this week Scott.

I hit 151.7db (Legal) with the new box.

My goal is to get a pair of BTL's. More then likely it will be towards the beginning of 08, even though, at first, I thought I could do it sooner.

That would be nice. I need to get some more money first

    Gotta a New Dodge Magnum......

So I was bored today..... Actually, I have the local show tomorrow, and I wanted to get metered in a ported box, so I hit the home depot and grabbed some stuff. http://cyvforums.com/index.php?topic=787.msg4108#new The box is 7.7ft^3 after displacement with (4) 4" round x 15.25" ports firing back. I think it is tuned to 33hz+/- I haven't tested it yet, because I need the glue and silicon to dry first. Hopefully I can break the 149 mark.

The first thing I am doing is building the new enclosure. It is basically a 40 x 23.5 x 18 enclosure with the four 4" round by 15.25" aeroports. I should be able to use the same box with a pair of BL's or BTL's. That should boost my output more right there, for now.

    Sealed Q numbers?

People chasing numbers typically don't use a sealed box. True. I used a sealed box because of the size restrictions of the G35 Sedan trunk. So I was very pleased with the scores I got. Now that I have more space, I am converting to a ported enclosure. Sealed can definitely get loud, but it all depends on what you are looking for.

    Sealed Q numbers?

I have a pair of Q15's in a sealed box in 4.4cubes running on the US Amps MD2. I had them in the trunk of my G35 Sedan and hit 147.9, 148.5, 148.9 on the AC legal, and 140, 140.8 on the TL legal. Those scores were @ 35-38hz approx... The lowend on the Q's is niiiiiice.

    Gotta a New Dodge Magnum......

Yeah, it's the same setup as teh g35, but the Dodge Stock HU is worse. I'll let you guys know the score on Sunday. I just picked up a NSB90 Battery, so that should help. I'll need a little assistance in getting it wired up. And if I can afford to throw more power at the BTL's, I will. In all honesty, I would like to have 3k-5k on each one if possible As usually, everything boils down to money. I also have a set of 8" Daytons and a pair of Tweets to throw in there now, too. But I may just throw in 2 pairs of 3-ways and call it a day. And if any of you know anyone who wants a Shocker Sig 15", holla at me, I got one of them too and more 0 gauge then I know what to do with.

    Gotta a New Dodge Magnum......

My setup is louder then most cars down here, buuuuuut, I want more What can I say? I'm addicted and now I own my own car, now more company car BS. I'm getting metered on an AC this Sunday. It should be louder then the G35 was, I can definitely feel the 30's n lows more. Upgrading teh HU will help too. Yeah, I think I may pick up a pair of 15" BTL's from you soon and throw about 2k at each of them. I have a 140 amp alt right now. I was thinking about getting the RF 4000d or maybe the Goliath 5000d.

    box design for 15" Q

If the specs are right, it should sound fine. My only concern is how you can have an accurate tuning when teh port length changes. It is shorter up top then it is at the bottom. IMO that would blend the tuning. I am not a "skilled" box builder, so I do not know how that would affect the tuning, but it should still wang nicely.

    Q15's Enclosure

Actually..... Box will be 44 x 17 x 22 with subs firing up and ports firing back. It will have four 4" round x ~15.25" flared ports. So the box is 7.81ft^3 before port and woofer displacement. It should sound good.

    Q15's Enclosure

This is the box I came up with, but just by the numbers, I don't know what the response will be like and how smooth it will be. Box: 44"x18"x20" (outer dimensions) and 37.5"x16.5"x18.5" (inner dimensions using 3/4" mdf excluding port) Port: 4"X16.5" slot on left 18.5" long That should leave me with ~6.6cubes before displacement and a ~33hz tuning. Subs are running off of my US Amps MD2 at 1 ohm. ~1800w rms What do you think?
  15. BryanTheCEO

    Q15's Enclosure

    I'll probably go with 7cubes @ 32hz.
  16. BryanTheCEO

    Q15's Enclosure

I will probably jump to about 7.6-7.8cubes tuned to 30-32hz. Thanks for the info!

    (2) FI Q's + (2) 1000.1?

You'll be happy with the Q's. Alot of ppl down here run kickers too, and everyone is always amazed with my Q's. The Q's, in the comparison I can make, were louder by 2 db's. The kickers were ported but were only getting 1200w rms to the pair. My Q's are sealed and getting 1700w rms to the pair. Also the Q's beat the cvr's on the lowend, hands down. IMO they are 2 different classes of subs.
  18. BryanTheCEO

    I got a Q

Rule of thumb from my past experience is "a single 4" port always = port noise". Might be different for others, but the Q's can move some air, so I predict huffing.
  19. BryanTheCEO

    Well.... since i can't get a mag...

With "only" 800w of power? That's all I'm giving my Q's and they hit and sound awsome....mmm more power..MORE POWER!!!!!! Where's my MD3 Flakko?

    Box Question for Q15's

As some of you are aware, I have a pair of Q15's sealed in a 4.4ft^3 enclosure. I had to build the box ackwardly to make it fit in a G35(sedan) trunk. I enjoy competing at local comps, but want to see if I can increase my output. I am pretty steady with hitting ~148db at the dash. My question for you box gurus is with the given specs of my sealed box only being 4.4ft^3 would I still get an output increase if I added a pair of external 4" aero ports (actually just pvc) and how long should they be to tune to ~34hz? Specs again: Sealed 4.4ft^3 (2) Q15's Desired tuning approx. 34hz using (2) 4" round ports What length?

    Box Question for Q15's

Yes, 4.4 is for both. That is why I am skeptical. I know normally I would need more internal volume. That is why I am asking. I would make the ports so I can plug them for daily.

I'm trying to convert my buddy to Fi

lol, is that driveable with that kind of screen? ghostface, you are currently running 2 15 Qs hitting around 148? If that is so, and your subs are louder than his vmax, why not just make this comparision to him? What kind of #s is he putting up? He is running in a Trailblazer, and I am in the trunk of a car with seats that don't fold down FTL. He was hitting 151db with a pair of baun 12's (on AC) Because of the different vehicle setups, it's kind of hard to make a comparison. I am assuming that I would be louder setup in a trailblazer, but you never know til you try.

I'm trying to convert my buddy to Fi

He wants to compete in local SPL comps, and recently switched from bahns to Vega V-Max. Personally I don't like how the V-max meter or sound, so I am trying to get him to switch to Fi. He is on a pretty tight budget, so I was thinking that the SSD's would be a good option for him to start with. Should the SSD's yield a noticable increase in SPL from the V-Max if they are in a proper box and and correct power?

    Q15 numbers

I would say tune it low too. My Q15's hit a steady 148.xx on the A/C from 34hz-50hz and that is sealed and in a trunk off of an MD2 and stock alt.
