DSS Tridents and Twisted Sounds S-10. Road to 166dBs

Agreed. This isn't really to compare against the Ethos. This is just killing some time until the Tridents arrive. -

Though the Ethos are great subs, I don't think that Would be fair. The tridents would be a better comparison. We'll see what Quentin says. I'm sure he's familiar with the other subs in the market. On second thought. I think the tantric SHD would be a better comparison with the tridend and B2 XC. The HDD is still a daily bumpin sub. -

Just trying to be the best I can be. I'm anxious to see what I can get out of this truck and see what the tridents do. -

Well since the Trident is geared towards the big boy subs in the market. Why not do some testing before hand. This a B2 XC. This one is blown, but ill be getting 2 more coming and recone this one. 3 custom Tantric HDDs being built next week for me as well. -

Just for giggles. Wanted to see if a monster sub, physically fit in my shallow enclosure. It did... -
It's a whole lot worse with 3 subs hooked up. Measuring at the amps, I can get a 6ohm or more even fluctuation.
-
Lol

I get 22 mpg in my '14 Silverado crew z71. Even better at 55mph. We have high mph highways here.
-
I can be blamed for my issue I'm sure, but I've seen now 4 people running subwoofer brand X, that had issues with the terminals reading weird. I'm just trying to fix the issue.
-
I've tried 4 different meters... And other subs. These are the only ones I've seen this on.
-
I know DCR is not impedance. While I'm walking the line of safe ohm load and way too low. I thought even the slightest fluctuation would be crossing the "too low" ohm load. Some burps, I'm good. Another burp, I protect.
-
Awesome! Thanks for the very in-depth explanation.
-
Could you explain how what I'm reading has no effect on the amp? Does it react differently under power? My understanding is that you order the correct ohm drivers to present the amplifier a certain load. Ive never experienced any sort of fluctuations on a driver in the past. New or used.
-
Thanks for all the input 95Honda. I agree with everything you typed, except the direct leads adding tension to the suspension. The leads are suspended in the same manner as the terminals being connected. I also agree that my lack of experience is clouding my expectations of this test.
-
That's awesome results for you! Unfortunately for me, it's all 3 subs. This is not a new issue for me, although I didn't test them fresh out the box. I tested them the first time a while after I got them, after I'd played them a little bit. I noticed it first after I got to a show and it was all crazy. I thought I had a blown sub. I separated all three and tested individually. Granted I was at a show with music and bass blaring. I chocked it up to the environment around me. Put it back together and went and set some records at the same show. I tested again in my quiet garage, same results.
-
Like stated above your post, I am still getting weird readings. Much more tolerable than before though. I feel like the fluctuations is what might be sending my amps into protect. It's hard to argue with success though. Truck still makes stupid numbers, for what it is.
-
I've tried 4 different meters. I even went out and bought the Milwaukee one because I thought my other 2 were broke. Also tried a fluke at a show. Its just as bad at the back of the truck, away from the motors. Though even with the direct leads, I still get fluctuations. If I use a different sub I have here as a sample, it stays at .7 steadily.

Part of the problem is I don't want to hurt any feelings when I do figure it out. I'm curious as well. Trunk would be fun. -

It's funny, I hear everyday that because I have an s10 that it's so easy to get loud. So far from the truth. Unless I can find the weak link that's holding the score back. -

Tempted to sell the truck and buy a car for a trunk class build. -
Box Rise better or worse with one amp per sub vs one amp total?
