Some of this was already posted on audiojunkies.com, but I'm posting it here because this is SI's forum and those who don't visit audiojunkies need to know about our news. All of our reps know this info, and they have kept their mouths shut because I asked them to. But now they can divulge anything they want (within reason). Ok, well I guess I should get the biggest thing out of the way and say that the new Mag is going to be 5.5" deep. I'm putting the motor inside a completely new basket on the new Mag's to reduce mounting depth to 5.5". I'm also using XBL^2 to get a super-flat BL curve and maintain our T/S's over the entire band of usable Xmax, which will make the driver sound better than before. I'm also copper plating the pole piece and then diamond CNC machining down the pole to reduce inductance while not loosing any BL (a sleeve over the pole has an air gap which reduces BL). A copper-coated pole piece reduces inductance even further (when I say 'even further' I mean that the inductance was lowered a LOT just because of XBL^2). The new inductance is roughly 1/3 of the current Mag (which means bandwidth goes up a TON and the driver will sound a LOT more natural). Power handling will be 1000 watts in our specified enclosures. Sealed enclosure volume will be 0.8 cubes to 1.0 cubes. Ported enclosure alignments will be in the 1.5 cube area. And the new BM's are going to be 3.5" deep for a 12" model. Once again, putting the motor inside the basket.

I'll release the weight once I have the driver in hand. Shouldn't be too much longer now. -

I'm also extremely interested. I'm looking for a 12" LFE monster to replace my SS RL-p 15" but I need it to be ~30 lbs or less. So far I'm thinking of the older version Mag, AA Avalanche, IDMAX, or OZ ME12. I'm working with up to 1.75 ft3 and 500 - 1000 Watts. I might just hold out for the newer Mag. When is the release date? If you're looking for 30 lbs or less, throw out all the subs you listed above because they are all right at the 30 lb limit. The shipping weight on the previous Mag's, IDMAX, and OZ are all > or = to 30 lbs. The new Mag will be substantially under 30 lbs (no, I'm not releasing weight on something we don't have in our hands yet) and will perform VERY similar to the current Mag with some things (like sound quality) being much better than the current Mag. -

Not at this moment, but we are open to the idea. If any Canadian (or other foreign inquiries) are interested in carrying SI all they need to do is contact me (via phone or via email) and I'll get them our distributor requirements. -

A new 12" Mag will not be able to keep up with a 15" Mag. Due to surface area alone the 'battle' was over before it began. A 15" driver will whip the 12" driver in output. Two 12's vs. a single 15" is a much more fair comparisson. -

We actually do have a few 15" Mag's left. On the note of two 12's weighing more and taking up more volume - have you read the posts about the new Mag? Two new Mag's are going to weigh less than a single 15" and the two 12's will require a smaller enclosure than a single 15 (which, again, reduces weight due to the smaller enclosure). Two new 12" Mags need 1.5 cubes total. A single 15" Mag needs 2.5 cubes. It's a win-win situation IMO. Less weight, more bass. -

Because I've made it better. The previous model was a result of my desire to keep improving on an existing design. So far the Mag's have been through 2 substantial revisions. If I would have sat back and left the original design alone, the Mag would have never evolved - it would still use a TC9 motor with a less-than-adequate basket. Every time I've re-designed the Mag it has gotten more efficient, plays a little lower, and sounds a little better. This time is no different. -
They can be tuned anywhere from 32 to 38 Hz in 2 ft^3 or larger, and since he has plenty of room, tuning to 32 shouldn't be a problem. You are right though, I was thinking Mag's (tuned at 32 Hz), but the BM's are tuned at 34 Hz.

2 ft^3 tuned to 32 Hz after port and driver (a single 12" BM displaces 0.1 ft^3).

The new Mag's will only be available in a 12" size. In the other thread here I posted about it. -

Nope, the face will be similar to the current Mag. It will have a "boob" dust cap on it, paper cone, and foam surround with a rubber gasket. It will look slightly different, but will retain the same overall look. -

The new Mag's are only going to be available in a 12" size. Minimum is looking to be 1.37 ft^3 (although we will publish recommended) and recommended ported enclosure volume is looking to be 1.5 ft^3. Ported enclosure specs for the current Mag 12 and 15 can still be found on our web page: http://www.stereointegrity.com/mag.php -

At this point, no. The new Mag can do everything the current Mag can do except better...except soak up an overabundance of power. The new Mag's just won't handle 1800+ watts like the current Mag's do...because it's not needed. -

Haha, soon man....soon. -
What size and how many BM's do you have? Also, how much room do you have available to give up to your sub(s)?

The first graph in this thread is sealed and the second and third graphs (the ones you posted) are ported. I edited my post to reflect that the graphs are ported (thanks for pointing it out). -

^ Exactly. 9 cubes and 6 cubes. Massive massive massive boxes with a TON of power!!! Here are the graphs of ported cone excursion for the 12W7 in its recommended 1.75 ft^3 enclosure with 1000 watts and the new Mag in 1.5 ft^3 with 1000 watts. Cone excursion goes over 40mm total when you get about 10 Hz below tuning (you should have a subsonic filter on your system with a ported enclosure to avoid sending your system something that low anyway). Here is the graph of the same thing but with 800 watts: Notice the similarities and differences? Note that excursion only becomes an issue below tuning. At/above tuning, both drivers are moving less than 32mm total with 1000 watts. Now why spend all the extra money and have all that extra weight for something that you're never going to use (ie. 30+mm of one way excursion)? Not to mention that the Mag is still going to hold its T/S's more constant and have less distortion and lower inductance than a driver that can do 25+mm one-way anyway. -

Qts is going to be in the mid 0.4's. 200 watts per driver IB would over a bit overkill, but we'll see when we start testing more. -

The new BM's and the new Mag's can be used IB. But as you know, power handling goes WAY down when using them IB. I would only use the new Mag's for IB if you were dead-set on that alignment due to how low the power handling would be on the BM's when IB'd. But then again, if you were only shoving a couple hundred watts to each BM you could use them. -

Exactly. I'll post more fun graphs later this week. Oh, I'll post up ported excursion plots with certain input power also. -

If you have an enclosure larger than 1 ft^3, a Mag is still the right choice if you're after a subwoofer with phenomenal SQ and great output. Power handling will go down a tiny bit every time to go larger and larger over the target box volume (which is the way it is for any sealed alignment). The Mag will also work extremely well in small-to-medium sized vented alignments. The other thing to consider is that even though I demonstrated the Mag in 1 ft^3, its .707 alignment is in less than 1 ft^3, so you could use two Mag's in the same space as one other driver. -
Thanks man.

The new BM's will be super-happy in sealed enclosures. They will perform extremely well in 0.75 cubes sealed. The new BM's are a complete new, unique driver - its only similarity to the prototype driver that we are not making is power handling...but that's about it. But yes, they will slaughter the previous model of BM's in a sealed alignment.

The basket will help with heat-sinking, but again, the new Mag isn't going to be able to soak up gobbs of power like the previous generation. As of right now there is no plan for a pre-order, but things could change. -
This is the basket only, the finished driver will look much better due to the plate on the back and all the soft parts installed.
