You could use silicone (in the joints) or fiberglass resin (pouring it into the box and rolling it around to coat the inside) to seal the inside of your enclosure. There is no need to purchase liquid deadener. The mounting depth is 6.75" (just like it states on our web page) and the magnet diameter is 8".

Spray adhesive works well to hold the fiberglas insulation to the walls. Just buy the really small rolls and use that thickness (it's about 2" thick). They're around $6 a roll. It doesn't hurt the driver if polyfil touches it. We have done a LOT of installs where polyfil is almost literally inside the pole piece because the enclosure is stuffed full and it doesn't hurt the speaker. Now if you were to manually shove polyfil up the pole vent, that would cause problems.

Waiting on spiders.

Why not exchange the wire with something bigger? Just curious.
-
So that's what 150 decibels from a single 12 looks like. ...I swear, you guys and your walls.
-
1 lb of polyfil in a 1 cubic foot enclosure makes the subwoofer think it's in 1.25 cubic feet. I would also line the walls with insulation.
-
Magnum 12's displace 0.07 cubic feet. The drivers are now scheduled to be here around March 10'th.
-
I'm not sure where you're getting this information, but 1.3 cubes isn't a majical number for a Magnum 12. We've had great results in everything from 0.8 cubes to 1.5 cubes sealed. If you box is either 1.3 or 1.2 cubes before polyfil and fiberglas insulation you will be fine. And resonances are peaks or dips in the frequency response caused by a number of things - one of them being lack of enclosure damping. This doesn't really matter in subwoofer enclosures, but it does help make the box seem bigger to the subwoofer.
-
Yes we recommend using both - fiberglas and polyfil. Why? Because it helps with resonances and aids with effective enclosure volume.
-
Magnum 12's displace 0.07 cubic feet. If you end up with less than 1.3 cubes you'll still be fine. Technically all they need is 0.5 cubes to operate at/below a .707 alignment.
-
Yeah I saw that Jordan. Thanks for at least trying, but it seems like it's just conversation at this point. ...that, and just let them have their fun. We all know that Magnum's suck arse anyway.

Essentially a BIG @$$ sealed enclosure. AKA: an enclosure so big that Qtc fails to drop below "critical listening" alignments. For most car audio people this means using the trunk as the enclosure. For home audio it is almost always using the crawl-space or the attic as the enclosure.

Wiring our coils in parallel will give you a 1 Ohm load, which will allow your amplifier to do ~1000 watts.
-
I think people have entertained the idea of IB but never gone through with it. If your car is already setup for IB, you might be the first to IB a Magnum. It should work fine, though. I don't forsee any problems.

And another...

Here's a couple pictures of one of my shirts (literally pulled it off the hangar and put it on the floor):

Yeah, I looked over the thread. Winslow can say whatever he wants, obviously, but he could go about doing it better IMO. Doesn't much matter to me though. I know how the drivers perform and I know that something has to be horribly wrong for it to just flat out sound bad. ...and I think I'll just stop there.
-
PPI also made an A1200.2. My A600.2 was lightly modded to do 1000 watts, but there are plenty of other amplifiers out there for either single or dual Magnum's. *I just saw that you already said the 1200 tirefryr.

I need to get a new batch of stickers made because all we have left are the window stickers, but I'll keep the board updated. Austin, shoot me $30 and I'll include a shirt. The embroidered polo's aren't cheap unfortunately.
-
We have both shirts and stickers. The white polo shirts with our logo embossed on the front left are $30 shipped. We are actually running out of stickers, but I'll get more printed up and then post prices for the stickers as well.

The 15's are just as efficient (actually more efficient) than the 12's are. So with the same input power the 15's are going to be louder than the 12's. But if you like your 12 that much I would just stick with what you already have and upgrade your amplifier later.
-
Yeah, it gets more than loud enough for me. F-bodies are the jam for subs.

any idea how much a single D2 12" weighs in pound?
Electrodynamic replied to -SuperiorSounds-'s topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
32 lbs. -
'sorry if you took it as being talked down to, but you put "LS8." And I've stated before that it doesn't matter whether or not GM actually used the engines in production cars. And on that note, I'll edit my post. Your post just rubbed me the wrong way at the time. My appologies. I'm sorry no one on this board has heard the drivers that you have to give you a good comparisson. Maybe later on someone will have a Magnum test against them.
-
Basically what these other guys have said. I still can't compare the two drivers because I haven't heard the ssx's...and I actually don't know of anyone using those drivers in the lanes. However, you did mention that you had around 2.5 cu. ft. ported low, and the Magnum 15's will not work well in an enclosure that small. The 15's need around 4 cubes each ported.
