Well you can do whatever you want, but 3" is the general rule. I definately wouldn't go any shallower than 1" no matter what.
-
8 and 1/8'th mounting depth and as a general rule you should always leave around 3" behind the vented pole piece (for any speaker with a vented pole) for adequate breathing room.
-
Well if you swapped out amps and your 600 watt PPI out-performs your 1400 watt PG, I think it's safe to say that there is something wrong with the PG. ...sounds like an internal problem if all of your connections are good.

Boxes are going to cost at least $70 more on top of the price of the 302's. If you want them, we can build them.

IS there a 15" magnum left??????????
Electrodynamic replied to stangme01's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
We have one left in stock. That's it until the next run. The remaing 15 will go to whomever we receive the order from first. -
Depends on what it's tuned to, but that box is too small for a Magnum 15...more along the lines of a Magnum 12" if anything. I would personally wait until you get a correct enclosure built for a Magnum 15.

Stereo Integrity Subs are a pile of shit!
Electrodynamic replied to allConfused's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I thought I was going to be able to make it through the day without an April fools joke but then I came to the forum! -
More than that now, but at the time I told Steve, there were around 20 out there.
-
Here are some pictures of the new Magnum's:
-
Just ask Steve about the Magnum's reaching their physical limits. I showed him what they really look like when they honestly bottom out. His comment was, I believe, "holy $hit!"
-
Email me about this.

I have new gaskets, but I don't have the boot covers...yet. I can get a hold of some. New gaskets are $5 plus shipping (just covering my arse).

Just to shed some light on the 502's - they were/are a custom-built component set that would probably end up retailing for $2000+ and sell on our web site for at least $1700. Hoss's tweeters are insanely huge and are going to be a ***** to install due to their complete lack of mounting tabs, holes, anything. If I were to do a set for consumers (Hoss is my friend who lives about 20 minutes away from me) it would definately use the same midrange but use different tweeters and midbass drivers, which basically equals a completely new design. On to the 302's - the mid can handle a LOT more abuse than the XR's can, that's for sure. The midbass is definately there. And as Jacob said, they are designed for OFF-AXIS use only. That mid on-axis would not sound very good due to its peak in the upper register when placed on-axis. But off axis it is nice and smooth in the upper register. The tweeter is the same one used in the 307's, but the crossover point was changed to mate up with the mid. There are a couple other things that were done with the crossover network, but we won't disclose any of that information. The 302 and 307's both use very good/steep slopes on the tweeter in order to protect it among other things. And to cap it all off, the 327's are coming... 'not sure when or how soon, but they're coming.

I'm with the others...you guys are nuts with dual 15's. One 12 is more than enough for me! But please post more pics and what you think about them when you are able to push them harder.

As long as you let the paint dry completely as per the instructions on the spray paint can, you can put the Magnum in after that.
-
Those claw baskets were cool looking. Did you ever figure something out about a logo on that proto?
-
It actually looks about 100% better than that. Apparently Steve took out everything forward than what we did today in order to deaden it. All I can say is that it's insanely loud.
-
These door components are VERY nice sounding. Quite possibly the best sounding "entry-level" components I've ever heard. Jacob just came by and let me listen to them and they are (finally ) tweeked in and sounding great. BTW: Jake, check your PM's.

Nice day out, made some progress!
Electrodynamic replied to Tirefryr's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Translucent green would be sweet I think. :boink: ...only if something else in the install is green. -

Wow, that looks really cool! ...especially the doubled up ring that the woofer sits under/in. Are you talking about the top plate or the back plate? If you paint the top plate make SURE to cover up the vent holes for the coil. And of course cover the pole vent if you are talking about the backplate. Paint inside the subwoofer = bad stuff. B) -
Production numbers will not be released. After we sell out of these 15's (or get really close to it) we will be ordering more 15's. So far I've only shipped one 15" to Canada. There are multiple 1st-gen 12's up there, but only one 15" that I know of or that I can think of right now.

Cutout and overall diameter of D2 15?
Electrodynamic replied to parvo99's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
You shouldn't need the brace inside the enclosure to hold the magnet/motor. I would instead spend your time and effort on just bracing the walls of your enclosure. That will help out more than anything. -
I sent the thread starter a PM as soon as I saw this. ...and I'll just leave it at that for now.

Cutout and overall diameter of D2 15?
Electrodynamic replied to parvo99's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Cutout diameter is 14 inches. When making your front baffle it all depends on how you build your enclosure as to how the front baffle fits on. If it's going to be a close call width-wise I would place the baffle on top of the 4 side edges. -
Now for the bad news. We received the shipment of 12" Magnum's. All of them but one failed our quality control testing. The one that passed will be shipped out tomorrow or thursday. The Magnum 12's have a mechanical problem. All of the defective speakers "tick" when pushed past a certain point of cone movement (about 1/2 inch). We are currently in contact with the manufacturer trying to figure out what the problem is. Of course, this will delay their release again. We physically have the speakers, but we are not sending them out in this condition. More will be posted. :thud:
