So which one are you?! PS: I didn't receive your call - didn't even ring/register. -

Haha, thanks for the pics. Now...which one are you? The big geek on the left or the Dale Jr. wanna-be on the right? -
You got lucky. I work two jobs, so having time off to ship out speakers immediately after they're ordered doesn't happen too often.

Damping factor on amplifiers has been discussed and argued over for YEARS on countless forums. There is a technical explanation for it (maybe Jacob can bumb in here and clear that up for us), but it deals with how well the amplifier can "control" the subwoofer. Some people say that anything over 100 is in-audible, and that's the general rule for the most part. You might want to do a search on a couple of forums and just look over the results you get.

Yep. It'll be fine. We rape them a little bit before they're sent out, so it's good-to-go. We bring every Magnum up to full excursion before they leave here...and that's with a 2500 watt beast of an amp. You should have seen Steve's reaction when I showed him just how far the 15's actually move when they "bottom out". I'll try to get another video with a higher frequency - say 40 Hz - that shows the excursion better.

HiFonics Brutus 1000 or Brutus 1500. ...and what denim said.

This is the exact reason we came out with our components. They are plug-and-play systems that sound incredible. M. Schmidt replaced his Utopia's with our 307's and has no regrets. I think that says enough about how the 307's sound. ...not just imagine that kind of SQ, but a smidge less and you've got our new 302's.

I know I beat him to it, but he can add more if he wishes. But here is a picture of Hollis's 502's with a Magnum 12.

Hrm...not sure about that rattling. We brought the drivers up to full excursion without any problems. ...might be the amp clipping b/c it takes a LOT more power than 600 watts to get it really throwing down. BUT I'm glad you like it so far. And unlike the 15's, I'm keeping one of these 12's for myself!
-
Thanks for the suggestion. We actually found one that was being built, but it's not going to be made and we're really not sure how big the market is for strictly midbass drivers. From the amount of people who have purchased our components, it's not worth it at this point.

Haha, well I'm glad you like it. We hardly ever hear back from our customers, so it's nice to see posts like this.

DAMN YOU!! Hollis's house is the ultimate house to re-coupe from a night of ... partying. He has killer orange juice and killer waffles. And yes, I own the most SI products. BTW: SI is located at the same place our mailing address is - Mooresville, NC. There's no store front, so don't get too excited.

If it is 55 (which is probably close), I would tune no lower than 45 Hz. SPL is, afterall, nothing more than trying to pressurize the 1" square area in front of the mic. Tune high, shove TONS of power, have massive port area, and set your gains correctly (slightly clipped).

Check it out. I'm going to work on the pictures for the 302's for a while, but the description is there. New Components Page

Magnum's can handle 1200-1500 watts rms just fine. 800 won't hurt it.
-
You won't get any SPL estimates out of myself, Jacob, or any of my reps for that matter. There are simply too many variables to consider. As far as the word Magnum and boomy being in the same sentance, it doesn't ocurr unless the phrase "is never" is between the two words. The only times I've heard people not thinking Magnum's either sounded good or weren't tight was when there were major box flaws.

IS there a 15" magnum left??????????
Electrodynamic replied to stangme01's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I haven't sold the entire batch yet. But if I do, I'm coming out there. BTW: It will be at least a couple of months before any more Magnum 15's are built. -
Unless your car is a LARGE sedan or SUV, I would tune a lot higher. Hollis's Explorer (the red one on our web page) has a resonant frequency of around 47 Hz. Unfortunately the best way to find out what your actual res. freq. is is to test. Make a box with a changeable port and change it constantly if you can borrow a mic and see what posts the best results. What kind of vehicle do you have? I suppose that would be a good place to start.

Electrodynamic replied to stangme01's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
'Sorry but everyone pays full price for their speakers. Ask our reps. And a little more on topic, the 15's are sold out. -
Because yours are the only set that will be made like that...ever.
-
Yes, but the gains MUST be matched EXACTLY to put out the same exact amount of power to each coil. Just even the slightest bit off and you can kiss your sub goodbye. AKA: The gains need to be set professionally with a volt meter to each other. It's very very tricky, but it can be done.

Well I know it's not the best video, but it's all I could do. I need to change frequencies and try it again so the emblem shows up better - it's too choppy in the video I took. This is Umar's 15 running free air off of our Crown K2. Mag15Movie.MPG
