A little about us at SI

Yeah, it sucks a big one that Clarke isn't over here. I'm tellin ya man, seriously, I'm coming over there for at least a weekend sometime (hopefully soon).

A little about us at SI

I work around 18 hours of every day on something. Whether it be SI or my other job, it's incredibly draining. But somehow I keep going day after day. I think it might be the little pebble that gets wind of a few happy customers from beneath the glossy finish of selling a product to a couple hundred people. ...I wish we heard back from more people.

    jl 500/1 enough for 12" magnum d2??

If you're going to spend that much money on an amplifier I would look into the amplifiers that a lot of our customers use on this forum - HiFonics bx1000, PG ti 1200, Viper 1200d, etc. They're easily over double the amount of power and they can be found for the same price as the 500/1...if not lower. However, 500 watts will be plenty on a Magnum. ...1000+ is just soo much more fun though.

    newb to magnums, plz help!

Let's see if I can answer these in order... Remember, the box needs to be around 2.65 cubic feet (after port and driver displacement you're back to 2 cubes). But yes, you can make it any shape you want as long as it retains the same internal volume. It is best if the sub and ports are on the same side of the box. Yes. But make sure the inside opening of the ports have at least 3" of breathing room away from a wall. You can if you feel it is necessary. Obviously when you join the pvc/plastic port together with the angled pieces you should use some type of glue, silicon, etc.

Use 90 degree bends (can be found at any local home improvement store) and you can fit a 50" long port in a box that's 10" deep. PS: I'm glad you like the forum.

    got metered today

Nice score...especially on the new mic's, they are bastards.

32*14*18 = 8064 cu in. Take away 1.5" from each measurement to get the internal dimensions for the enclosure and you get 30.5*12.5*16.5 = 6290 cu in. Divide by 1728 = 3.64 cubic feet of internal volume. Subtract roughly 0.1 cube for the 12's displacement and you have 3.54 cubic feet. If you were to use up all of this, or even most of this, you can definately go ported if you want to. The driver only need about 1.5 cubes sealed, and 2 cubes ported (after you take away how much the port(s) and speaker take up). If you were to use conventional round ports (hopefully the aero ports - flared ends - to reduce noise), you would need at least two 4" ports that are 40.5" long each, which would displace 0.58 cubic feet. And with that number, I would reduce your enclosure size by about a full cubic foot to keep it around 2 cubes tuned to 28 Hz. Now, if you did want to tune higher for more SPL, the figures above don't apply and the math part starts all over again. But as many people can attest, the Magnum will still get very loud in that enclosure. Oh yeah, amps. Popular choices are the HiFonics Brutus bx1000, PG titanium 1200, and Viper 1200d.

If you're looking for more SPL than SQ, tune high - in the 40-46 Hz range.

D2 loves the new viper 1200d

Man that one picture that you can see the Magnum's reflection off of the Viper amplifier is pretty cool.

do i need to get a new amp if i were to get 2 12s

Haha, been there, done that before. But now I won't do that without hearing protection.

    Demoed the 302s to someone

Just to emphasize what Jacob said, it's not that 302's midrange is "ok" or "bad" in any way, but it's just that the 307's midrange is killer. The midrange on the 302's should impress everyone that listens to them. That, and for their price, I don't know of anything that even comes remotely close to them.

    LMAO!!

do i need to get a new amp if i were to get 2 12s

It depends on how much power you have at what impedance. Two D2's will give you a 2 Ohm, 1/2 Ohm, or 8 Ohm mono load, so it's really up to you and your amplifier(s).

SI 12, RE xxx, JL W7

That's right. The 15's just go lower and get louder than our 12's do. SQ-wise they are very similar. Just ask Hoss about the D2vsW7 comparisson in the SPL lanes.

    302's mounting question.

If it's acoustically transparent carpet you won't have a problem. If you're covering it with std. carpet that's used for covering subwoofer boxes you can kiss your midrange goodbye. And on that note, are you building door pods or are you talking about your stock door pannel?

    D2 question

Yea, they are currently in stock. Unless it states that they are sold out on our web page, they are in stock. Magnum D2's are only available in dual 2 Ohm. PS: Welcome to the forum.

    Your only Californian SI Rep....

Can you guys stop b!tching (apparently you can't spell it correctly without being edited) about who is whiter than the other on my forum? This is supposed to be about speakers, not who is sexier. ...and speaking of which, where is Mark? Mark envisions himself naked on a bed of fish more than any other person I know.

    full excursion

If your electrical system was powerful enough to run a small city (what it would take to actually supply a 2k watt amp to actually do 2k watts for that long) with solid sine waves, it would probably last a couple of minutes. If you're playing music, probably 30 minutes. 2k actual watts is a LOT of power, and it's only a 3" vc. in the Mag's. If you're playing around with that much power...buy another Magnum.

    Demoed the 302s to someone

    Wait...the 302's impressed someone? Noooo.
  20. Electrodynamic

    full excursion

Depends on the frequency used and the size and type of enclosure the subwoofer is in. FYI: Most people won't be able to bring their Magnum's up to full excursion - especially in a sealed box. Just ask Steve. I showed him full excursion on our test bench and he about crapped his pants.

    more pics of 502's

Clarke cleared it up pretty well. $1800 would be the LEAST that the 502's would go for. But they are not available to the general public unlike Hoss mentioned. They are a specialized component set that is totally balls-to-the-wall. Each component set will be different from the previous set...unless someone just wants an exact copy. The 327's will be a 6" version of the 307's.
  22. Coolness! I'm glad you like it so far.

    my new setup

Yeah, what he said. It does look good though. I think you'd get a lot more replies in the std. subwoofer section of this forum and not the SI section.

    more pics of 502's

Like Hoss said, he told me to come up with the biggest, baddest component set I could think of and now he's got 80% of it. Now comes the hard part, the crossovers.
