    questions for 12" or 15" with 1000-1500wrms

One of our 12's vented in anything larger than 2 cubes after displcement will be awesome. A 15 sealed will also be really cool. It's always neat to have people ask me "that's two 12's right" or "you mean it's vented...there's no way it can be sealed" when you're running a single 12 with 8 awg power wire and 600 watts (what we did at the '02 IASCA finals).

Finally built my box and amps!

Try 3 years without bass. Home audio is another story, but car audio-wise I've been without a system period for over 3 years. I am finally taking Clarke's advice and actually doing something for myself for once and it will be spectacular.

    Box

For multiple amplifiers the Monster kit would be better but for a single amplifier install the Stinger kit will do just fine. What's more important about your box is placement, not the shape of the box. In a hatch, I'd put it as close to the back as possible. And if you end up with right at 2 cubes, I would definately stuff it 50/50 with fiberglas insulation and polyfil.

    Just curious

Typo. I just changed it to M4. At least I think that's what it was (Loyd's car). Well the site will be updated soon...my ftp program is having serious problems.

    What I've been busy with

Adire Audio Koda 6's. The 8's would have been too much trouble for my narrow time-table...but maybe SI 8's later on when I have more time.

Cost won't go up from what we've already posted due to the top plates. I'll try to listen to it as soon as it stops raining here long enough for me to work on my car.

    What I've been busy with

Yes, we make our own crossovers. Hand-assemble, hand-pick, etc, our x-overs. 'see the nice flat 14 awg traces? Yeeeaaahhhh. Now I'm on my 5'th application of lightweight body filler. Hopefully this will be the last. I'm going to hop off of here and head straight to sanding with 100, 230, 330, and then 400 or 600. Yay.

    What I've been busy with

Yep. This was after the 2'nd layer of bondo. After layer 4 was applied and sanded today, I still need to add another layer. Little pin holes due to air bubbles are really starting to piss me off.

    Thinking about a Magnum...

1.5 to 1.7 cubes would be great for an SI 12 even with 1200 watts. Just stuff some fiberglas insulation in your fiberglas enclosure and you'll be good-to-go!

    SI 8" pictures

Speaking of which, I need my enclosure for the 12 back. I'm going to put a plate on it to accept the 8" and run it in my car...with 1k on it. (obviously not the full 1k )

And another picture... Oh yeah, measured near-field frequency response un-baffled was 40-1600 Hz +/- 3 dB. Not too shabby.

    Define Loudness

I would go with a 15 sealed in an enclosure larger than 2.3 cubes. Despite the graphs (very nice though), the 15 will be louder across the board. Larger cone area = more SPL given that everything else stays the same. At the 1 watt level the 15's are a solid 3 dB more efficient. If I could fit a 15 in my car I would, but since I'm putting all of my speakers in the cab of a Del Sol that isn't an option. Wait, I just saw the 12 is ported and the 15 is sealed. In that case, they should be pretty darned even. I'd still go with a 15 though.

    For those so eager....

The hampster conversation was awesome. Launching a shaved hampster that has a cape and streamers attached to it off a Honda passenger-side airbag all stemed from the sight of my airbag sitting in the garage. Totally awesome. And oh yeah, I got the prototype 8" in today. Thanks for the post though.

Wants to order 15" D2, SI wont answer me emails?

Unless you've paid, you're not on the preorder list. If you could, email me letting me know exactly how/why I told you that you were on the list without paying.

    power or box

Try shutting them up when you have a single 12 and everyone swears you have 2 12's. That, and being able to beat their arse in SQ is always a plus.
  19. Electrodynamic

So whats the deal with the 15's?

Our estimated due date is still true to our estimate. More 12's and 15's should be coming in around that date.
  20. Electrodynamic

    power or box

If you get the 1500, I wouldn't run it wide-open too much on a single ported 12. 1000-1200 is what we feel comfortable with. But yeah, it should be a lot louder with that amp.
  21. Electrodynamic

    power or box

Wattage-wise, we don't cover blown/burnt coils at all. Our warranty is a 1 (one) year warranty against manufacturer defects. The speakers will handle 900'ish (in upwards to 1500 even) watts from a car amplifier without a problem. Just do a search on this, and other forums, and you'll find that the whole power issue has been talked about a lot. And blkjck, is there any way to tune your enclosure lower? Tuning a box that size to 28 Hz or so really makes a big difference.

    Bandpass

Haha. I haven't heard of anyone putting a Magnum in a bandpass box except for Ron Thompson. He put a 12 in a "Deathbox" (tuneable bandpass) and really liked it. But I don't think anyone has put a 15 in a bandpass.

    sealed box question

Yeah, I was talking about the hole. B)

    sealed box question

But anyway, even thought there's a little space between the chambers you will be fine.

    No more "Magnum"s

Before anyone freaks out we are still going to make subwoofers but we cannot use the name "Magnum" anymore. A Corporation called Mitek owns the rights to the word "Magnum" in car audio, so we cannot use it. This last batch of 12's and 15's that was just made will be the last speakers with "Magnum" on them. 'just thought I'd let you know. :thud:
