Upfiring 15" Subwoofer in a hatcback
Electrodynamic replied to Guy Brawner's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
So does a picture of your engine bay. I know it's in avatar form, but having a late 80's/early 90's Camaro engine bay look that good just doesn't happen. -
Well I've gotten the same kind of traffic about the comps as I did when we were making them - almost none. They weren't worth the time it took me to hand-build the crossovers one-by-one. And the people that got the wooden boxes with the adjustable attenuation circuits - consider yourselves lucky. How many components do you know of that come in oak boxes stained whatever color desired color with rocker switches for attenuation circuits and binding posts for speaker connections?

Ah. Users need to specify which they are talking about from now on. Officially (yes you can take this as SI's official statement if you want) "Magnum"s are every driver we have produced up until this new woofer/batch. "Mag's" are the new drivers. Anyway, 2.5 will be fine for the older 15's. -
Haha, 'glad to see that you like it. I thought about running a 15 in my car but I stuck with two 12's. The 15's are for the HT/stereo room.

Well that's the biggest sealed box that's on there. I figured people would take the smallest they could if we recommended it (obviously we're not going to recommend something that is just beyond tiny like some other company's do). Maybe I need to edit the web page to just have 2.5 cubes sealed. ...only then I'll have people asking me of 2.6 is OK. -

Unless I'm mistaken, isn't 10 dB considered twice as loud? 3 dB is a good solid gain though, a very very noticeable gain. 2.5-2.7 cubes is fine for the driver sealed...where did you get 3.0 cubes from? -
12" D2's First Impressions

Then buy my PPI and run that on your mids. You'll need it in that boat that you call a car. I ran around town today with Black Eyed Pees cranked today and had to turn it down a few times. Some songs on their newest album are just nuts. And I have yet to come across anyone with a system since I've had mine installed. I can't wait for the day that I'm lightly listening and have some kid with two P5's/TypeR's roll up next to me. It'll be a glorious defeat! -

Not a problem man. You know they can be loud...you heard them with approx. 900 each in my car. Speaking of which, it was you that was in the car when I bottomed them out wasn't it? Heheh, and mine are sealed. Of course, they're in a hatch too...which helps a lot. Anyway, put more power on those puppies and then get back to the board. Also, post on other forums. -
Yeah, Nick (Ndmstang) told me to go check out some boob forum for pics of his party this past weekend. Is he f*cking with me or am I not able to see it...b/c I don't see anything like that. Hell, does anyone else know what I'm talking about?
-
Haha, I haven't seen that vid before. LOL, that kid!
-
Who's the chick that takes up the majority of pages 2 and 3? Smokin hot!
-
Where's this boob forum I hear about?
Electrodynamic replied to Electrodynamic's topic in Test 1, 2, 3...
Yeah, I thought it was for all mods but I couldn't see it! I can now though. I'll go check it out. And Ryan...are you hitting on me? -
Yours was shipped out today Trevino.
-
Speaking of which, how about that Maxxsonics/Hifonics Goliath sub with the massive 3mm of one-way inward excursion with about 50% of my body weight on it?
-
If the XX Hifonics amp is within your budget I recommend looking into that amp big time. I love my Colossus and my Olympus. Also...800 to 1000 watts you're talking ~1 dB difference give or take a bit.
-
Heheh. Check these out: And that's a quarter on my friend Jake's leg as a reference.
-
Yes, the compliance is higher on the new 15 compared to the old 15. Much better driver all around though.
-
The box worked out just fine Hoss. Getting it down wasn't a problem either. I haven't even seen the woofers move myself, so the forum gets no porn until then. I got finished at 9 PM and can't crank it at night so I'm going to hit it hard on the way to work tomorrow. If I have time I'll take a video tomorrow evening.

With a couple batteries it will do its rated 3200 into a 2 Ohm load. Pretty scary actually.
-
The differences would be the 2 cube ported would go lower than the 1.5 ported and both ported boxes would be louder than the sealed box down to the box's tuning frequency. The sealed box will take up much less room, still give great output, but be about -3 dB in overall output compared to the ported enclosures. Accuracy should maintain all around, with the sealed box coming out a fraction above ported - no huge difference though.
-
Yep. Topic says it all. I've basically just ran all the wires and installed the head unit (25'th anniversary Alpine). The Tara Labs RCA's are the absolute $hit. Ask Hoss, he was here today. Anyway, on with the pics. The pics may not show up in order (it sorts them alphabetically I think) but you can get the idea.
