2 15s sealed or 1 15 ported off 1000/1
Electrodynamic replied to Trevor Eaton's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Why not? Linear throw doesn't mean peak travel. 24mm one way is almost 2" of total linear throw (24mm one-way BTW). Go an extra >0.5" each way non linear and you get 3" of total travel. Of course, peak excursion isn't limited by the motor force on ours - the end comes when the coil slams into the backplate (which it was designed for to tell you "hey, back off!"...and is also right before the spiders bottom out. Basically, it's good design) Heck, back in the day of the large-surrounded-they-suck-because-they-have-large-surrounds subs with 18mm of linear travel on a good day could still throw down 3.2"+ of total throw. -
Cool! That's what I like to see - a new car ripped apart to put in a system.

Mating a claw basket up with a new motor isn't an option. Ryan has the only one in existance because his was done during production. A new re-cone, however, is an option. The benefits are a lower Fs along with stronger/better components overall.

I think we need a clearer definition of the "prototype". The 12" driver that Denim tested was/is our Mag 12" in every way ... except it didn't have a logo on the dust cap. Other than that, it is a Mag. If you get a Mag 12, go with the 2 cube box tuned to 28 like Denim mentioned. It is a killer box for our 12's and will perform excellent. The "BM" series (that name may change BTW) are not out yet and they are a smaller driver than our Mag's - lower power handling, smaller motor, lower price, etc. If you have the room though, the 15's are flat out sick in a car.

Cool. Sounds good!

This is Sunday - a perfect day to sit in your car while it idles and slap that 15" Mag around.

Shallow Delta Midbass (11.5mm of xmax)
Electrodynamic replied to Dylan Matlow's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Looks like a very potent midrange/midbass driver. I might have to get in on the pre-order! -
2 12" mags work with a Alphasonik PMA1200DA
Electrodynamic replied to krazie's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
What we recommend on our web page is a good place to start. 1.3 cubes each sealed works very well. A barrier is not necessary - just some bracing of some sort. -
SO I hear this noise coming from the Magnum. . .

SWEET amp!! You gotta let us know how the Maggie sounds coupled with that new goodness. -
JMigs owns the silver Camaro on our web page BTW. His first generation 12" sounds phenomenal coupled with our 307 front stage with Peerless 6.5" midbass's.

3.3 cubes ported for a single 12 is wasting enclosure volume. You are not going to gain anything going with a larger enclosure than 2 cubes per 12" driver other than raising the peak near/at tuning that is associated with ported enclosures that are larger than they need to be. Go with the Orion amp (unless you're talking about buying a Crown/JBL 1200, in which case go with the Crown/JBL but do NOT go with the standard 1200 watter JBL) in our recommended 2 cubes ported enclosure. Basically you can't go wrong placing a driver in an enclosure that we have listed on our web page. Again, going larger than what we recommend isn't going to get you an increase in low-end from our drivers.

Cool. I think I know who you bought those off of and they should be next to new (Shinobi on CA.com if I'm correct). Let us know how the big boy stacks up to the coveted H deuce.
-
It really depends on how big you want your enclosure to be. A larger port is going to take up more internal volume than a smaller port. 25 sq inches is adequate for a 15, so if your enclosure is already built stick with it. ^ and what Tirefryr asked.
-
You need length also to determine tuning.

I will be updating the web page shortly to link all pricing inquiries through www.showrides.net soon. I have been talking with Ben at Show Rides for about two months now and they have officially signed up as our first dealer. Right now Show Rides' web page isn't up to full-tilt and that is partially because we have been lazy and haven't sent them more pictures and/or information. Hopefully within a week everything will up and running.

Haha, I saw that too. The stangs are taking over!
-
Go ahead and send it the 1200. It's kinda funny, it seems like some people think our Mag's require 1k watts and others don't want to put that much on them. I've got a big boy amp on my pair but it's not putting out anywhere near rated power due to my stock electrical system. But to me, it's better to have too much power than not enough.

Yes, they're finally priced as they should be. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly.

what woul i gain switching to 15"mag from 16o.v2
Electrodynamic replied to subsounds's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
60 to 80'ish is just fine. Any desire to run them around 100 Hz and you need to look into bigger/better midbass drivers. -

Electrodynamic replied to subsounds's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
You don't need anything larger than 4 cubes each for vented use. Making it 9 cubes will just result in a slight peak near tuning. Knock it back down to around 4 cubes each and lower tuning to/around 27/28 Hz and you'll be good-to-go. If you want it accurate, loud, and low, then you're looking at the right subwoofer company. And when I say loud and low, I mean LOUD and LOW! The 4 15's we have in our living room are just sick - it seems like the lower you go the louder they get. -
Direct Pricing is about to go bye-bye. SI reps, be prepared for a newsletter shortly.

"looseness" and our drivers don't go hand-in-hand. Looseness or boomy bass in ported enclosures is a factor of one one or two of the following: the driver; the enclosure. When either of the latter aren't working you have the boomy response that is associated with a lot of the big-woofer, ported-enclosure frame of mind. Take one of our 15's and put it in our recommended enclosure and you'll have a hard time finding any room for the words "boomy" or "loose" unless you built the enclosure wrong or have horrible amplfication/processing. -
Take it to PM's or emails guys.

SI is doing a system in a customers house and we ordered the 9" Sunfire Jr subwoofer for this application (cost and size). For those of you who don't know what a Sunfire Jr is, it is an 8" driver with an 8" PR and a 1400 watt amplifier all inside a 9" cube that is finished beautifully (a deep deep deep red - almost black - wood laquered finish)! We hooked it up next to the line arrays and this little sucker wangs HARD! On normal music it kept up with the line arrays just fine - ample bass all the way around, fairly tight...actually pretty darned tight for an out-of-the-box PR setup. The extension on this little bugger is impressive! It did just fine with an 85 Hz crossover all the way down to the mid/low 30's in our room. However, with Trittico, it did not want to play nice. I took a video (crappy resolution I found out after the fact ) of the PR on the wang patrol. Here it is: Ok, you're going to have to copy and paste: http://www.stereointegrity.com/images/9_inch_cube.MOV
