SI Mag enclosure info!!!!!! (asap)
Electrodynamic replied to Sexual_Chocolate89's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
But if you can't give up over 4 cubes total (4 cubes after port and driver displacement) don't port them. The smaller vented enclosure recommendation is only for those who feel the NEED to port and don't have any room at all. 2 cubes after port and driver displacement is where it's at for a Mag 12 inch. If you can't give up over 4 cubes, go sealed...especially if you're enclosure building skills aren't polished. -
Very true. Tube equipment does have a significant impact on midbass'ish to the extreme upper end. I haven't heard anything tube on a sub stage for the reasons you listed earlier.
-
Our Mag's do not need a tube preamp or amplifier to make them listenable with classical or instrumental music. They are not harsh and brash. Linearity is fine outwards ~24mm one-way. If you're worried about listening to musical passages at over 2" of travel then you need to re-think what you consider critical listening because massive SPL and critical listening don't go hand-in-hand. The dub sev does use an overhung motor (which is what ours is). No XBL^2 in the dub sev, but they did notch the pole piece to extend BL in one direction. It definitely has a characteristic sound to it, but it's not my bag of marbles.

Overall diameter is 12.5 inches.

Here is what's missing (where the "..." is): 04yellowf150/misc/?action=view¤t=LoydsDriveby.flv Copy, paste, do some editing and you get to see the vids. Or just go to ca.
-
This forum shortens links so it's not Loyd's fault. The links work over on CA: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=170068

Yep, just as the topic states. Post the results here.
-
You are correct sir, just keep your gains set to a resonable level and you'll be fine. BTW: It's a common misconception that our 15's take more power to be equally as loud, but it is the opposite. The 15's are just as loud with lower power compared to our 12's so you don't NEED more power on our 15's.

The chrome cone-head backplate does look sexy doesn't it? I'll admit, I've molested a few Mag's before. But back on topic, is SD the ONLY place to buy those ID's?
-
Just something to wet your appetite.
-
My thoughts exactly. The W7 does have a very distinct sound to it that some people don't like (like myself). What our Mag's don't come with are the SI supplied screws.

new member, don't know anything!

It's about TIME you showed up on here!! I'm sorry I couldn't make it down there this weekend but the Integra is giving me chit and I had to work on Saturday at the last minute (I've GOT to find another day job - my boss is an a$$). Thanks for the quick review. We will be expecting pics and such. And Loyd, the phone goes both ways. I'll try to give you a call tomorrow though (the 4'th). -
So why not run 4 ID 8's then? Nick Morgan's 8 sounds really good despite the looks of its build. To a lot people, including myself, the ID looks like it should sound like total crap but it performs REALLY well for the price point.
-
The Crystal 8" if they still make them gets my vote. That, or an 8" W7.

SI will be teaming up with Sundown Audio for this sale. You can get a good deal on the Mag's and the BM's by purchasing an SA product. Keep looking here for more information. ...wait, wait,
-
Pricing is set at $300 MSRP on the 12's and slightly lower on the 10's. The 12" specs are on this forum somewhere...I'll hunt them down soon and link you guys (unless, that is, you want to do the search yourselves and save time ).

the wildest thing nick lemons has said to you...
Electrodynamic replied to hoss's topic in Test 1, 2, 3...
Yes, I am at Hoss's place drinking. Crazy things could happen such as Hoss ending up with 10 10" BM's in an extended cab Silverado pickup. Hey, can someone figure it out to see if that comes out to a 1 Ohm load? (That is, 10 dual 4 Ohm drivers) If not, I'll figure it out tomorrow and probably edit the piss out of this thread to make myself look smarter than I really am. -
The BM's are our mid-line driver, hence the 1" surround. What I was trying to get across is that most surrounds are either the 1.4 or the .7" surrounds.

Boot / Trunk of Vectra with 12"MAG 2
Electrodynamic replied to Mega Heavy Bass's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
The new rims look killer! I've got Enkei DM5's that are gunmetal with a polished lip - great color combo on darker colored cars IMO. The Vectra install looks great also. I know what you mean by rolling around with your bass turned all the way down. -
^ What Ryan said. The surround on the BM's are 1" wide and the Mag's surrounds are 1.4" wide. FYI: A typical surround found on most lower-end drivers is .7" wide.

My bad, I thought the bottom layer had them installed. Anyway, here is a pic with the gasket installed:
-
That picture was taken before the gaskets were added to the top layer. Look close and you'll see that the lower levels of speakers all have gaskets.
-
I needed a clean pair of shorts after seeing that on my screen also. They will soon be headed our way from the build house.

Ok, before this thread gets out of hand I'm going to close it. It is apparent that NickR likes his Mag's. He did rip both of them apart by playing them beyond their abilities. And for the record, backplate dancing is not my cup of tea. Let's just leave it at that and go about our business being nice to each other here on the SI forum.
