Jake is correct. The driver that is arriving today is completely different from the one we released pics of: made in a different factory, made with different soft parts, hard parts, etc. We are treating our new cones a smidge differently with a proprietary product. It won't make a MASSIVE difference, but it will make a difference in a few areas. You guys should see our furnace. Throwing drivers into it is quite fun. :)

The different Mags through the years
Electrodynamic replied to king alpha's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Ryan is right, you shouldn't combine a claw and a 12-spoke Mag due to the suspension differences. All of the Mag's use the same enclosure sizes and tunings though, so switching them out is never a problem. And yes, the triple stacked Mag is the 5'th. It is due to arrive today!!! -
Magnum Wall nearly completed :)
Electrodynamic replied to Mega Heavy Bass's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Great job!! I love seeing your progress on all of your builds. Like Ryan said, all of your builds are insanely big, nasty, and also visually appealing (which doesn't happen over here in the states that often - usually when builds are big, they're ugly). Please keep us posted on your progress. -
Yep, I'm alive. I've had problems with our email server recently, but I believe they are fixed now. If people are emailing me and I'm not responding it's because I haven't received the emails.
-
If you're respectful, the Mag's can handle a LOT more than they're rated at. We conservatively rate the Mag's at 900 watts.
-
Officially they are the Mag, not "Magnum" (gotta thank Mitek for that one...bastards).
-
New soft parts on an old motor will change the T/S's. I can't see the pic on this PC, but I'll try to look at it tonight on a different computer.

Stay on topic please, if you want to advertise your drivers for sale, use PM's. Like tirefryr said, 12" Mag's aren't available right now because they're being re-vamped.

Seal vs Ported. how much power is needed?
Electrodynamic replied to wajit's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I would stick with what we have on our web site for ported enclosures. Tuning that high is fine, but you won't un-lock all the low frequency potential the 15's are capable of. And that box is too small - you need at least 3.5 cubes after port and driver displacement. -
I'm closing this topic because this should have been (and was) addressed via email.
-
3.2 at 32 Hz is too large of a box for that tuning. If you wanted, you could go 2.3 cubes tuned at 30 or stick with what we recommend; 2 cubes tuned to 32 Hz.
-
Like Jim and others have stated, sealed enclosures are not the BM's forte'. They perform very well in ported boxes, but the 12's don't really shine in sealed boxes. The 10's perform better sealed b/c they're usually placed in smaller vehicles (like trucks), but the 12's ported v sealed it's ported every time.

Adjusting your gains / levels correctly will solve that problem. Remember that a gain is not a volume knob, and use the remote level that comes with the 1500 to adjust the bass to your listening preference.

How much fiberfill do I need for Mag 15
Electrodynamic replied to bigbirney420's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
BTW: The box isn't too big - Mag's are very versitile subs. -

Try it without any fill at first and if you want to try filling it, use 2 pounds of polyfill when you fill the enclosure. -
advice on vehicle specific enclosure
Electrodynamic replied to demetman's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Loosing output isn't a possibility. The 12w7 has a tad more cone area than a normal 12 due to their roll-over surround, but it can't touch a 15" for cone area. Mag's stomp on W7's in the lanes all the time. As far as I know, a Mag has never lost to a W7. Jake (Sundownz) 's brother has two 12" Mags ported in an extended cab pickup and he beat a pair of 13w7's ported with twin 1000/1's by a considerable amount at his last competition. It happens all the time really. I was interested to see what would happen the first time we encountered W7's (I knew what would happen but I didn't know by how much), but that was when Hollis had his 4 12" Mag's that did 151's and we beat most pairs of 13w7's by 10 dB on average (as it's fair to compare two 15's to four 12's). And we rate ours at 27mm. It isn't confirmed b/c of how much Xmax we have, we know how good the subs perform, and there's no use in bothering with 2mm of linear throw because you'll never hear the difference. If you had the exact same sub with the exact same parameters (they'd actually look different to get the same T/S's while upping Xmax without affecting Le) and one had 2 more mm of Xmax, you wouldn't be able to tell which one was which. So not only are you going to go up in SQ, but SPL won't be a problem either. -
advice on vehicle specific enclosure
Electrodynamic replied to demetman's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
If those are your goals, go 2.7 cubic feet and call it a day. I was under the impression that output was your main goal. Listen to Jim though - turn that bass EQ off and turn the x-over to 75 Hz or so. And once you get the Mag, turn your sub sonic filter off. -

Electrodynamic replied to demetman's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I recommend the enclosure suggestions we have on our web page. They're there for a reason - the tuning and enclosure volume works out very well for all applications. If you want to, you can go larger (like 4 cubes) but keep the same tuning. BTW: Be ready for better SQ while being a LOT louder at the same time. -
The displacement of the 15" Mag is 0.15 cubes each. And I highly recommend sticking to what we recommend on our web page.
-
Hollis is doing 148 on the mic (really sad b/c it feels like a mid 150's car) with eight 12's ported in 20 cubic feet. But I installed two BM 12's in a 4 cube box tuned to 32 Hz for a kid in my neighborhood and his system IS louder than my two Mag 12's sealed, and I'm doing 141's.
-
The exact same as our current Mag.
-
^ What he said. PS: Ryan, you've got two 10" BM's heading your way.
-
That, and Chad Hicks has a pair of Mag's he's trying to get rid of. You might want to contact him on here or on caraudio.com. I think his s/n is lilmaniac or something close to that (Chad is the one that posted the comparisson pics in the other thread). And +1 to what Ryan has stated. I dislike repeating myself, but again, the driver is NOT being changed to something different (performance-wise) than the current Mag. Think of it as more of a face lift than anything else. The cone is stronger on the new one's, the motor will hold more power, and the surround is a smidge wider but it allows for more travel so it all equals out in the end (but as with our current gen, travel is all basket limited). We are also moving to integrated tinsels to eliminate lead failure and/or lead slap possibilities. When we get the final proto in, we are going to host up videos of us beating the ever living CRAP out of it!!
-
The front of the sub is going to look very similar (we're not changing from our paper cone, foam surround, or the boob dust cap). The back, however, is going to look TOTALLY different...as you can see from the pics.
-
I donno Chad, you'll have to email me about what pics you're talking about because with you there's no telling. And the proto is not going out to demo. We learned our lesson with the last two proto's we sent out - the physical condition of both the 12 and the 15, and the fact that people ignored what I told them about the 15 having an issue with the pole piece. So, long story short, no.
