understatement... Heat is the devil to all electronics... there is nothing worse in the world than heat build up on a component no matter the task it is intended for.. Good luck with your situation holley... hopefully it is quick.. true ****

help with Crown XLS 2000
SNIPER-92 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I love this amp, but there are two questions i have about it. I have it hooked up to a 15in dayton audio reference series RF 15", and this sub is 500w rms mind you, it is hooked up 4 ohms briged, for 2100w rms, and it just seems like it should have more power than it does. It gets really loud, and gets the sub warm if i let it, (only takes about 20-40secs full power, then it smells a little), but it just seems like that if it was doing rated power, the sub would just bottom out and blow in a matter of seconds, it is in too small of a box(about 2-3 cu ft, it needs 8-10 per sub, might be why it dont bottom out) do you guys think im getting full power out of this amp?? and if i am, do you think it will be stable at 2ohms briged, im getting another 15in dayton. some good car audio amps that are rated stable at 1ohm are fine at .5ohms, so i figure crown is supposed to be one of the best, maybe it will to.. -

the box is small, it is like 18x18x18, a cube. loud though, and my amp is set to bridge mono on lowpass mode crossed as 59hz. the dayton site has no box dementions, and im pretty shure the clip indicator is good because i hear no audible distortion untill the clip indicator is pretty much solid. under that its very clean. -

the amp has clip indicators on it and they dont light up at all when the sub gets warm... i keep a close eye on it... i had the box already and im buying a 2nd 15 in a month or 2 so i just threw it in the box temporarily, and its a single vc 4ohm sub. this is where i bought the amp.. http://www.proaudiostar.com/crown-xls-2000-drivecore-stereo-power-amp.html -

Go ported @ 32hz w/ aa 1 cuft box. Would sound nice.

If you have room for a 15" xcon, thats the way id go. And plus you can always upgrade your amp with that one, id personally put a sundown amp on it

i have been wanting to do the same thing to my kenwood jl-703's, thinkin about putting some sundown audio sa-12's in them lol, what do you think?
-
I say you should go sundown hands down, you might have a hard time getting the saz-2000d because its discontinued, but there customer service is top notch, and that is in my opinion one of the most important things.

Sundown SA 12s or Lethal Injection 12s?
SNIPER-92 replied to Wackzirth88's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
i say sa-12, every single one of them goes through a sine sweep test before they are shipped out to the customer. just my .02 -
After spending 20+mins reading this whole thread, i say that you should go for the low tuned wall, i have always wanted to do the same thing. When i get the money, im gonna go for 2 21" wardens on 2 sundown saz-4500d's, gonna wall it off and tune it low, but maybe a variable tuning port. would save alot of time and hassle if i don't like the low tuning. But yeah, make sure you make a build thread, ill be all over that one lol. And aside from me, i think you will be most happy with the low tuned wall cause fi q's are all over the low notes, and it seems like it will fit your goals the best.

SNIPER-92 replied to SNIPER-92's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Both, rap music mostly. some S&C music too. -
i am going to be putting some subs in my room, i have pretty much narrowed it down to three woofers, which one should i get; Sundown audio SA-12 Incriminator audio Lethal Injection 12 DC audio level 3 12 Looking to be able to drop real low, im gonna tune the box to 25-27hz, it is going to be used in a home theatre setup i am looking for lots of output, but the most i can spend is like 250 per sub. With that in mind, feel free to throw in some other subs that you feel fit the description.

My budget is $250 per sub, and i have a technics su-v9 amp, and space is pretty much unlimited, the amp is rated at 120w rms per channel( it has 4) at 8 ohms, but is heavily underated. It will be used for movies and music, mostly rap. -
if your max is $500 per sub then a fully loaded fi btl is the first thing that comes to mind. great all around sub espetially for the price.
