Are Fi Subs easy to blow?

Hey, I'm that arseho that runs twice the rated rms to a sub just to see if it will hold. I'll tell you what, my AA Chaos 15 took my AP15001D daily like a $2 hooker on pay day. That sub is only rated for 800 watts rms. The trick is to feed the sub clean power and know your system's signs of stress/ when to back off on the vol knob. AA, Fi FTMFW!
  4. If your lookin to spend $1000 on a 1500 watt amp, why not just sell your sub and buy one that wires down to 1 ohm. Then grab an AP15001D for $160 and put the other $800 in the bank. I'm sorry, I just can't see myself spending $1K on an amp for a L7 . Good luck with whatever you choose. BTW, I could put a WHOLE system in my car for that 1K you plan on spending on that amp. Just sayin.

    48x SA-10s Build

I would think they would run D2 subs and wire each sub up to 4 ohms, each pair of subs down to 2 ohms, and run 4 subs per amp for a final 1 ohm load on each amp. Really diggin the 4th order. Great craftmanship. Very exciting build! I hope this makes it down to Florida (The LOUDEST State ) sometime so I can get a demo. Can't wait for some vids.

    Q vs BL

Great choice. You won't be dissapointed. I ran the AA Chaos 15D2 (cousin to the SSD) off my AP15001D @ 1 ohm daily and it's rated at 800rms. I loved that setup. Definately well built subwoofers. I'm steppin up to a fully loaded BL off the AP15001D for my next install. 2.8^3 tuned to 35Hz, hoping for a 145 out of the trunk. Gotta post pics when it arrives. GLWB.

    Fi BL15D2 Box Question

Yea me too, lol. The 4th order should be pretty sick when it goes down. iamamp3pimp will be building it naturally, dude is the only guy I trust to build my boxes. Thanks for your help.

    Fi BL15D2 Box Question

Robin (iamamp3pimp) was in the process of building me a 2.8^3 @ 35Hz box for my AA Chaos 15D2 when I had to sell the sub due to financial issues. My question is would a Fi BL15D2 run off my AP15001D work in this enclosure? Sub would have cooling, flatwind, and daily options. Looking to get decent lows and numbers out of this box, though sound is more important than numbers to me. Had the CHaos 15 in a similar box before with good results, just bumped up tuning on this new box from 30 to 35Hz trying to get a little better score than the 143.7 at 40Hz I got with the first box. Here is a pic of the first box, new box will be designed the same but built out of raw birch. Thanks for any input.

    Fi BL15D2 Box Question

This is pretty much how I feel, just wanted to bounce the idea off someone else to make sure I wasn't completely off base. This box will be a temporary build anyways, my goal is to have a 4th order for the BL built into the trunk and ported thru my rear dash. So, I guess it's a win win situation. If I don't like the way the 2.8 box sounds it will just motivate me to get my 4th order built faster. Thanks bro.

    Fi BL15D2 Box Question

Thanks for your input Alton. From Fi's BL Tech Page: 2.8 is the smallest recomended enclosure. I think with 500 xtra watts rms it shouldn't make that much of a difference correct? Wouldn't the smaller airspace help control the cone? BL15: Displacement: 0.21cuft Chaos15: Driver Displacement 0.17 CF .04 difference shouldn't be a problem right?

    SUBS!!

Ported or sealed? If you have enough airspace to properly port the 2 SSD 12's, I'd say go for them. Even though they are an entry level sub they still have alot to offer. You're going to get more output with 2 12's and you have more coils to share the power so less heat and wear on your subs and amp. Also, you aren't maxing out your sub. I have used the AA Chaos (cousin to the SSD) and loved it. Clean low bass and plenty of output. I was actually running my Chaos 15D2 on my AP15001D daily with no problems. That's almost double power, but it's clean that's the key. Just my $.02.
  12. Was having a box built by iamamp3pimp for my AA Chaos 15D2 to run off my AP15001D, but had some cash flow issues and had to sell the sub. Box is halfway built. Will be 2.8^3 tuned to 35Hz with a kerf port. It is a copy of the design that was used for my last Chaos 15" with the tunning bumped up from 30 to 35Hz. Here is a pick of the first box, only difference is port tunning and the new box will be raw birch that will be stained Cherrywood in the future. You guys think the Icon will be good in this box off 1500 rms? On a side note, Mark, would it cost xtra to get the full Xcon dustcover ike LoudGeo has on his Icons in the Punisher?

    Fi BL15D2 Box Question

Anyone have experience using this sub in an enclosure like this?
  14. PHATBOi

    Icon 15D2 in a 2.8^3 @ 35Hz?

Thanks for the quick response Mark. I don't have the space for an Xcon and the Icon can't handle the power, hmmm. Think I will go with an Fi BL15D2. But yall where my first choice.
  15. PHATBOi

    Icon 15D2 in a 2.8^3 @ 35Hz?

So , your saying the new Icon will take the 1500 watts daily and work in the 2.8^3 @ 35Hz and it only costs $20 more than the listed price of the current model?

Waterbottle dancing from the Re Sx 10

Looks good for 1 10 bro. Those old school RE SX where the shit! I wish I could get my hands on a 15D2 for my next build.

    95 Eclipse Father/Son Project

Awsome project. I was on the other side of the coin, my father built a 23' Ford T-Bucket from the ground up, welded the frame together and all. I was to busy partying and recouping to give him a hand. I regret it everyday now. I look forward to giving my son my Protege when he is 16 and doing a build with him. On a lighter note, you guys anywhere near Tampa, I would love to see this in person? Keep up the great work.

    Lanzar amp

Audiopipe AP series, best budget amp around! I own an AP15001D and couldn't be more satisfied. Don't know what your thinkin for subs, but their Eye Candy line of subwoofers is pretty decent as well. There are 2 people around here that are using the TXXAP15's and doin 145+. Checkout vminnovations.com for Audiopipe gear, they are an authorized dealer. Good luck.

    Kent's 1987 Mustang Build

Awsome bro. I hope to be able to build like that one day, then I can stop paying iamamp3pimp to build all my boxes, lol. Keep up the good work, can't wait for vids.

Need Some Clarification on BIG 3

The way you have it is fine. Actually I'm pretty sure it's better that way instead of just gounding the battery in the trunk cause then you are relying on the chassi of the car to return the current to the front batt. Your way is using the wire wich is a much more solid avenue for it to travel.

    upgrading my frontstage

Components will almost always sound better than coaxials in the front or rear but in my opinion you don't need rear speakers so the 6x8's off the headunit should be fine. What is going to make a difference in your doors is deadener. You should deaden the backside of the outer skin of the door as well as the outside of the inner skin where the speaker will be mounted, This makes all the difference in the world. I would suggest these: Crescendo Audio :: Component Speaker Systems :: CCX65 and use the other $100 dollars for some real good sound deadenner. Second Skin is the shit! The SPL tiles are awsome. Hope this helps.

    15" mounting

That is something that will be install specific. Everything from type of subs, how much rms you have, what type of enclosure you use, to what type of vehicle you have will play a factor in the sound and loudness of the system. There are a few rules of thumb such as subs up port back is generally the loudest setup for an SUV and facing a subs and port forward with the seat down and sealing the trunk off will be louder in a car than a regurlar box in trunk. The only way to find out is to do it and see if it works then post your results here so we can all share the knowledge. 10ths of DBZ are gained this way everyday. Hope this helps.
