Well the subs came today. Honestly can't see how these are considered entry level. Any suggestions from some experienced people would greatly be appreciated.

My bad. My budget is under $250. I know they're rated at 300 watts rms. I can't decide if I want to run @ 1 or 4 ohms. Also does running @4ohms yield improved sq. Again sorry for leaving out the budget. The amps I am considering are the MB Quart Ref1.800 and Hifonics Brutus 1700 or 2100.

I just purchased 2 E8v3's d4 My budget is as low as possible. I had a SA-12 before and decided I wanted to join the crazy 8's craze. I'm building a box for the subs. So far I settled on 1.5^3 ft tuned @ 35 hz using 2 2" aero ports. I figured after dis I would be closer to 1.2^3 ft. Any suggestions will be appreciated. They are going in a Mazda 6.

SA-12 dual 4 ohms should sound real nice. I have one in a ported box and hits all the frequencies. I havent heard one in a sealed enclosure, but they do have a ton of output for an entry level sub, and it's built like a tank. The FI Q 12 is another option. Now I did hear a Q in a sealed box and it sounded very good, but they are more expensive than the Sundown. They are rated at 1000 watts rms with out any upgrades. They also have 28 mm of xmax. You can also have it custom built to utilize a sealed enclosure, or keep it basic that way in the future you can use a ported enclosure.

Has anyone ever use speaker baffles for their door speakers and did you notice an improvement in sq?

is the remote on the rf power amps useful
semrod replied to irvin productionz's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
The remote adjust the bass boost on those amps, not the gain. -
Well I did put sound deadener on the door. I think all the bass my components are producing is being wasted in the rest of my door panel. So I was hoping to use speaker bafffles so the energy isnt wasted in the door.

Thanks fellas I installed Polk components in my 02 Altima and notice there is nothing behind the speaker except sheet metal. So I guess I'll give them a try hopefully they'll give me a fuller sound than I currently have from my front stage.

I have a RF Power T500-1BD. I was thinking about running it at .5 ohm to a DC Audio Level 3 15. Can the Power series handle that kind of load?
-
Thanks fellas for the info. I'm not gonna try it at all. I would like to keep my equipment. I'll just get a new amp for my Level 3. I'll just get the new Constant Power series from RF.

amp on a budget
semrod replied to zebrabach's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
The Hifonics BRZ1200D isnt a bad idea. You can run it at 2 ohms for 900 watts rms. That would be perfect for the SA. I'm running the SA-12 on 760 watts rms. -
amp on a budget

I would get the JL Slash 500.1D. There's used ones all over Ebay from $100-$200. I purchased one on Ebay for $150 and never had any problems with it. Plus it has a variable ssf plus it has a parametric bass eq built in. It's very powerful for only a 500 watt amps. I never really had to turn it up for it to get loud. -
Sundown Audio vs Hifonics
semrod replied to Angelboy863's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I own the HFI1500D it's an ok amp. There's no way it puts out 1500 watts though. I think it is basically the older Brutus 1210D. My co-worker has a Brutus 1610D and that amp sounds like it puts out alot more than mine. If money is an issue Hifonics are not bad amps. I've had mine for well over a year running at 1ohm. It just gets slightly warm. For almost the same money as the HFI you can get the BRZ1700D. -
Hey everybody! I was just is there a diferrence in power handling between a vented enclosure and a sealed enclosure. I just purchased a DC Audio Level 3 15 with the Level 4 coil option, dual 1 ohm. I'm running a Hifonics HFI 1500d @ 2 ohms 1000rms. I was going to use a 2.25^3 ft. enclosure in a Nissan Altima or could I get away with running that much power in a vented enclosure on the sub? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
-
I'm sorry the 2.25^3 ft enclosure is sealed. I ordered the upgraded coil to run more power than the 600 rms thats recommended. So would the Level 3 with the Level 4 coil be ok on 1000 watts rms in a sealed enclosure?

Do you still have any SA-12d2's or SA-15d4's very interested also is shipping included in the price? -
Thanks Alton. I'm definetely thinking about the 995 for the Exploder, the one thing I like the most about the Kenwoods are the controls and menu. There the easiest to use. They're simpler than the Alpines I've been looking at you have to hit like 4 buttons just to adjust the subwoofer. The Kenwood 1 push of the knob and your there and the sound quality is top notch. I had the X-592 and that one had parametric eq. I wish I never sold it. I've been looking everywhere for one or a 993.
-
I'm glad I could help. I might get a 995 my self for my Exploder I mean Explorer. I love my 994 though.
-
Thanks Watts I might just do that. That way I'm future proof in case I wanna run an all out system in my car. I'm already set for a hi output alternator and a couple Kinetic batteries.

I'm about to do a Big 3 upgrade on my car. I found some wire from a company called Install Bay. Has any one ever used there products? Oh I'm using 1/o gauge for the upgrade.

I have the KDC-X994 last years model. I can listen to Pandora using my Android phone through BT audio, but it doesn't give me song titles on the face of the stereo. It sounds pretty good. Apparently with the new model, you can hook up your Iphone directly to the headunit, and control Pandora from the head unit. This is going to give really good sound quality. Plus you'll get song info. Also with the new model, it comes with HD Radio. I've been looking for a new headunit myself for other car. I want a Alpine, but I'm just impress with features you get with Alpine for the money spent. Compare the Alpine CDA-117 with the Kenwood KDC-X995, you have to spend close to an extra $400 to get all of the features of the Kenwood. The Kenwood comes with hp & lp crossovers including adjustable slopes. The Alpine only has a hp crossover. The Kenwoods are fully adjustable, you can crossover your mids and highs as low as 30 hz for an example, and do the same with the lp. It has a 5 band eq also. The CDA- 117 does have a 7 band eq and a 5 band parametric eq which I like a lot. The Alpine does have bluetooth, hd radio, and no lp crossover. I also hear the sound quality is a toss up between the two head units. Oh yeah, you can color match your display with your dash lights with the Kenwood, not sure how important that is thought I let you know any ways. I hope this helps.

Thamks fella's. I'm trying to do a few things at once. I'm sound deadning my doors, installing components in the doors, and getting new rear deck speakers. I havent been happy with my Alpine Type-S full range so I'm going back to Polk which I had in my Blazer. I'm may switch out my 4 channel Alpine amp. I might just get the Install Bay. I think it was 50ft for like $70 which I know is more than enough in case I wanna upgrade runs to the back of the car.

Yeah it is cca. Who has pure copper? Most of the wire of been finding is cca.

Audioque or Sundown?
semrod replied to mwoehr's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I second that. I love my SA-12. Every time I get in my car it seems like it's just sounds better everytime. The low frequency extension keeps getting better and output is increasing. I'm thinkin about doing 2 of the 15's in my Ford Exploder. I feel the same both company's make good products. For the money compared to mainstream companies, you get more bang for your buck. The prices sometimes on certain products may seem high but look at what your getting. Example look at the price of an AQ2200D then look at the price of a Kicker ZX2500 or RF Power 1500 or 2500. I like the competition in car audio right now. Yeah it may seem expensive. Back in the day a 200 rms sub cost like $200-300 dollars. Now you can get a custom built sub that will handle over 1000 rms for the same amount of money. It comes down to your pockets and how much you wanna spend. I really want a Sundown amp but I gotta save for a couple of months. Will it be worth it? I definately think so. How often have you bought a subwoofer from a company and the actual owner of the company has inspected your item? Sundown all the way. Not bashing Audioque though!
