    2cf & 4" port too big for 10"?

not according to JL...they're saying the 12w3v3 can use in a 1.75cf box ported And there is no way you can make a 1.75cf box NET and a port in a 2 cuft space. No way, no how. sorry man, we're not talking about the same thing...i'm just saying JL says you can use a 12w3v3 with 1.75cf net. even if i wasn't talking about that, i don't see how you couldn't get a 1.75cf net if you had 2cf of overall net space, i.e. internal volume. the 12w3v3 has a displacement of .07cf. One 4" port that's 15" long has a displacement of .11cf. That's 2.00-.11-.07=1.82. if you're talking about a slot port then yes, i concur, you'd have a harder time getting the 1.75cf with a 2.0cf internal space.

    2cf & 4" port too big for 10"?

not really, i am thinking about a 2.0cf net box. that means only a 13.5" long 4" port to tune it to 32hz. 98GMC has good suggestions but I think the SD-2 would be a better match since it's rated for a little more power. the SD-2 seem very interesting and i'll have to think it over...good match for my amp not according to JL...they're saying the 12w3v3 can use in a 1.75cf box ported i was thinking that as well...that's also what carstereo.com was saying.

    2cf & 4" port too big for 10"?

i understand, but i'm just thinking it might be too big overall for the sub... yeah i was thinking the same thing...the thing is i CAN comfortably have a 2CF box in my vehicle without feeling like i took too much space... hmm, maybe i can go with a bigger sub...or maybe i can reduce the box and use a 3" port instead... QUESTION: I've heard that 3" precision ports are usually ok with 10" subs, right? I recall that with a precision ports, you can go with a smaller port area then a slot port... anymore suggestions for a sub for around $120?
  5. like the topic says, i'm looking to do a budget build. I already have an old 500/1 amp. I'm looking to pick up a used 10w3v3 on ebay for like $110. I want to build a 2.0cf box with a 4" port tuned to 32hz. Question is: is the 2cf box and 4" port too big? or am I still within the realms of "should be ok". I'll be giving it 500 watts. What it's rated at. thanks. PS: If anyone can name me a better sub for around $120 new or used, I'm still willing to listen.
  6. cool man, i think i'll just go that route...(3) 4" ports per box its going to be then...thanks
  7. that's the sad part, my box is much smaller then yours..., i wish it was bigger... i was saying (1) IXL 18 to keep things simple, but i'll confess, i'm planning on using (2) with a EP2500, realistically i believe they put out 800-900rms at a 2 ohm load to each channel...another problem that could arise with that is if the amp can take that kind of load 2-3hrs, 3-4x a week... i was told the v.2 versions of the IXL's were suppose to be able to take more power...if that's the case, do you guys think i should be ok then? with the EP2500 on a pair?
  8. hey guys, right now i got the box build already, it's a 11.2 cube box sealed. I was using a bunch of left over wood. one IXL 18 is going to go into it. I could add (3) 4 inch ports and make it a 10.7-ish cube box tuned to 16hz, or I could keep it sealed. it's going to get about 900rms. what should i do? I haven't ordered the sub yet. If I was to do sealed, i thought i'd go with the high Qt. I'm just afraid the 10.7 cubes is too small for ported, or will it be ok? since sealed would be in such a big box, wouldn't the lows be comparable to the ported box? say in the 15-20hz? or not really?
