Thank you for that. I'm still trying to get some of my stuff sold so I can pick up one of these. I'm getting antsy and my things aren't selling.
-
Well, I've narrowed it down to two possible culprits. When I left for work yesterday there was still hardly any bass, and the knob wouldn't adjust it at all. I started messing around with the cable that hooks into the back of the bass knob, and BOOM, it start playing like it should. So, it seems like it's either the bass knob itself, or the bass knob cable. Figures, the one thing in my system that wasn't bought used is what's causing the problem.

The reason I got it was because I'm using my stock HU. Should I unplug it and play with the settings on the amp and see what happens?

how many amps does your alternator have?
Dan208 replied to DnK's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
holy, did you ever have to replace your alternator? do u look like a strobe light going down the street when bumpin your music? Still the stock one. No dimming whatsoever at full volume. Must be using "compasitors". I hope that wink means your joking. There will never be a capacitor in my car. Yes, and capacitor intentionally misspelled. -
Yesterday I pushed my sub pretty hard on the way to work (about a 45 minute drive) with no problems. About halfway home this morning, it started acting up again. I started playing around with the bass knob and couldn't get it to adjust the bass at all. It was working just fine about 10 minutes before this happened. Just to be sure, I tested it out with about a dozen different fairly bass heavy songs, but still didn't notice any difference with the knob at minimum, maximum or anywhere in between.

Just checked the sub with a DMM and it's reading 3.6 ohms. Haven't had a chance to check out the ground yet.
-
Yeah, I was going to keep all the settings and volume way down.
-
Yeah, I thought maybe the ground. I had a shop do the amp install and they are pretty reputable, so I hope that's not the problem. The sub is just an old Adire Audio Shiva that's been in the closet for 5+ years. I was just trying to think of another way to test things out.

Still trying to get some stuff sold so I can pick up a 10". I'm actually scrounging around the house and garage looking for things to put up on Ebay and Craigslist. Pathetic I know, but I REALLY want one of these.

If they came in single 4 or dual 2 I'd get one in a heartbeat.

Fiat=Fix It Again, Tony. But seriously, it would be cool as hell to put a monster system in something like that and pull up in front of a bunch of people and just unleash.
-
Very nice. I really like the "stone" look. Kind of what I'm wanting to do for my next box.
-
How cheap? Still need testers?
-
W00t, we are going to raise them just slightly as the cost of the new carpet is 4 times that of the old stuff!!! Booo!! Damn good prices. You may be hearing from me this summer.

Except for those of us that never have any money. I may have to start working the streets.

Setting amp gains.
Dan208 replied to Dan208's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
It's an MTX RFL600D. I wouldn't think that it would matter since there's only one gain knob, but I want to make sure just in case. -
I picked up a DMM the other day and have been reading up on setting my amp gains. I came across this the other day: So my question is, is it still safer to set your gains with a DMM than by ear?

Setting amp gains.
Dan208 replied to Dan208's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Ok, another possibly dumb question. My amp has 2 sets of speaker terminals and one gain knob. I'm only using one terminal. Since there's only a single gain knob, do I have to test it on the terminal that I'm running the sub? Or can I use the unoccupied terminal (but still disconnect the sub at the box)? The amp is under the seat and it's a little tough to get at the screws on the terminals. -
Thanks, guys. I had lots of different systems through high school, but kind of lost interest a while back. This is my first in about 5 years. I'd love to take up the entire back, but this is the "family truckster" so I need to keep a good chunk of space. It looks much bigger in pictures than it actually is. Still a bit of room though.

Well, I decided I'd go ahead and post up my vehicle and stereo setup. It's nothing big, but it works for now. 2008 Saturn Vue Factory HU Factory door speakers Tsunami and Power Q 4 gauge wiring MTX RFL600D Clarion SW1051 The amp and LOC were installed by L&H Mobile Electronics of Topeka, KS. Good bunch of guys there. I bought the amp used for a very good price. I also found the pair of Clarion subs BNIB for an awesome price so I snatched them up. Only running one for now, and I'm not sure if or when I'll ever install the second one. I'm very impressed with the performance of this sub. Not at all what I expected. I do plan on upgrading the door speakers, but IMO they sound good and will get me by for the time being. Anyway, onto the pics: I had to cut the carpet off the front of the box to enlarge the hole because it was too small for my previous sub. Also had to cover up the power light on the bass knob with some electrical tape. Thing is so bright it was blinding me at night. This setup is just temporary until I get the funds for a different sub, but all in all I'm pretty happy with it. Not the loudest thing in the world, but it's decent for what it is. Be kind.

Setting amp gains.
Dan208 replied to Dan208's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
ALSO make sure it is on A/C volts not D/C lol i have done that a few times! if it is on D/C and yet set it to say 30volts d/c you are actually seting it lower then when you pop it into a/c you will read like 25volt ac those numbers are just for reference sake! but A/C no D/C Will do. Thanks. I'll probably end up printing out some instructions so I have them right there with me. -
x2. If I can round up some money I think this is at the top of my list for my next purchase.

Thanks for the quick replies. I don't have access to an o-scope, so that's not an option. I think I'll see what happens when I set it by ear then use the DMM to test how close I got it. I don't fully trust myself to just set it by ear.
