Amp not working right
ridn.strappd posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I got a directed d2400 amp hooked up to a JL 13w7. Theres a red and a green light that are both on. The red light has always been on as far as i can remember. The amp keeps blowing fuses like crazy. I can listen to music like half way or so and its fine but when i bang it it will just shut off and pop a fuse. I got 4g wire. I'm not sure why it keeps blowing fuses. I've been through like 7 fuses in a few days. I drive an 01 pt cruiser with no capacitor. Any help will be appreciated, thanks. Side note: it did the same thing when i first hooked it up but it worked fine for a few months now its messed up again. Also my serpentine belt is going bad an it squeeks REAL loud when the car drawls a lot of power for anything, if that means anything as far as the audio problem or not im not sure. -
Thanks, Ill see if i can find some time tomorrow to do the tuning on the amp. neighbors called the cops today, need to find a new spot to play it! haha. You guys always seem to have the answers i need, the helps appreciated

I'm a dumbass, sorry i meant "distortion". and ive got the gain all the way up, the bass boost all the way down, ive got the bass knob hooked up and i turn that up all the way every once in a while when i want it real loud. Im not sure what the box is tuned to tho, the port measures 2in wide, almost 20in long, 16"deep, and the L shape continunes about 6 inches inside the box if you know what im saying, i dont know what terms to use to explain. im guessing low 30's hz because it hits the lows real nice and deep but the highs kind of sound like shit. amps subsonic is at about half way and the low pass is at about 60% up, the phase is at 0.

I've got a 12" fi BTL fully loaded in a 2.63^ft ported enclosure. Im powering it with a hifonics bxi2610d amp wired at 1ohm. Hifonics says it will push 2600rms at 1ohm but i feel like thats a little over-rated. I get a little bit of excursion here and there and im worried i might blow the sub? Everyone says its practically impossible to blow a BTL, but im still a little concerned. What do you guys think?

Okay, no matter where i look, i cant seem to find out if breaking in a sub is needed or if it is just a myth? Im kind of a newb you could say. Ive got a 12" fi btl being pushed by a hifonics bxi2610d wired to 1ohm. should i take it easy on the sub for a while or what? Ive heard these bad boys can take a beating, but im not trying to kill my $500 dollar investment the first week i have it! haha. any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

FIREWALL HELP!!
ridn.strappd replied to ridn.strappd's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Thanks, I ordered a voltmeter and i plan on either getting another yellowtop battery or a new 220 amp alt. I guess im just going to have to drill a hole and seal it with a rubber grommet. Just wanted to see everyone's opinion before i did. -
okay, Ive got a 2002 mercury cougar, and im wiring up my first setup (for this car at least) usually i go through the firewall with the power cable, however ive never wired anything so big. I need either a good spot in the firewall for this car specifically, if anyone knows, or an alternative way to run the wire? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Setup is going to be 12" FI BTL fully loaded, hifonics bxi2610d, stock batt and all for now and the 0/1 gauge wires. i'm geeked but this whole power wires got me tore up lol

sorry, my goal is to sound louder, deeper, not cleaner. Hes got 1 13w7, stock battery, and alt, 4 gauge wires a directed d2400 amp. im putting my setup in an 02 cougar if that helps at all.

Okay, so i messed up a little. I have a hifonics bxi2601d amp, and i wanted to wire my sub to 1ohm. I ordered a 12" fi BTL fully loaded dual 1ohm model... OOPS! anyways, i tried to change the order, we'll see how that works. If i am stuck with the 1ohm model, and i wire my sub to 2ohms, meaning it will get the rated 1700w rms, (probabaly 1200-1500 actually) do you think it'll sound under powered? I'm running 0/1 gauge wires, and my box is 2.73^3. Stock alt and battery for now. My goal is to sound better than a jl 13w7, my buddy said hes hitting 143db on the reader. you think Ill get him?
-
Another question, If i don't get a secondary battery or new alt, and i have to get the dual 1 ohm sub and wire it to 2 ohms getting the said to be 1700w rms (probably 1500w) do you think it'll still pound? I was going to go with a jl audio 13w7 but i was convinced these were better subs and much louder, my goal is to beat my buddy in a db drag, hes got a stock alt, stock battery, 0 gauge wires, a rockford t1500.1bd amp and its powering 2 13w7s he said hes hitting 143's on the termlab.

Thanks, i really appreciate it. Everyone here is so helpful

First off you will want to contact Scott or Nick and have them change it to a dual 2 ohm so it can be wired to 1 ohm. The dual 1 ohm will be wired at .5 ohm or 2 ohm so you wont get all the power from the amp that you want. You dont have to upgrade if you dont want to. You dont have to do anything you dont want to. But it would be a good idea if you want all the power you can get. The box depends on how its tuned. I dont remember if 2.7 is enough but a quick glance at ficaraudio.com will tell you the proper size. Everyone will tell you to ditch the cap and go with extra batts. Thanks for the advice, i emailed the fi team and asked to get it switched to dual 2 ohm, i ordered 2 days ago so i dont se it being a problem. Can someone please give me a wiring diagram on how to wire the dual 2 to 1ohm, or how to wire the dual 1 to 2 ohms just incasew they cannot change the order? Thanks

Okay... Just ordered my 12" BTL fully loaded dual 1 ohm the other day, im GEEKED!! First question, i have a Hifonics BXI2610D amp, i wanna wire my sub to 1ohm to get the most power... correct? how do i do this? second, i have a stock battery and alt in an 02 cougar... do i absolutely HAVE to upgrade? Third, i bought a ported box off of a buddy, he says its 2.7ft^3, is this going to sound good with the amp and sub i have? By the way, im running 0 gauge wires and a wimpy 4 farad cap. I'm kindof a car audio newb you could say so any help would be greatly appreciated
